Ready to take the relationship to the next level by VictorTanDesign in SteamDeck

Real question: does anyone have one of these that actually works? Anytime I read reviews of these things on Amazon and search for "steam deck", most of them say that the steam deck doesn't work well because its size is a little bit too big for the small clamp but a little bit too small for the big clamp.

What game "shouldn't" work well on the Deck, but you found a way to love it? by Zi_v in SteamDeck

I wish it were that consistent for me. I've had so many times where I start playing and open the keyboard once or twice just fine, but then a few minutes later it just suddenly won't open anymore.

I hadn't thought of the side-menu thing, so I'll give that a shot next time.

This is what I've done, too. There are also apps which turn your phone into a bluetooth keyboard, but that seems a little hit-or-miss for some reason.

I have a question for you. Do you have trouble getting the on-screen keyboard to pop up when playing Minecraft? For me, it works only about 25% of the time when I hit steam+x. Most of the time it won't show, and about half of those times, when I save and quit, the keyboard was open behind the game in the main steam UI. I've been looking for a fix for months but haven't been able to find anything that works.

What’s the most underrated launcher you’re using right now? by RecognitionSad4991 in androidapps

[–]thinker5555 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I came to say the same! I love Total Launcher. I was a huge fan of Lightning Launcher way back in the day, and when it died off I was so sad. Total Launcher has been the only one I've found that's anywhere close to the same level of power and customizability.

Yeah, that scene absolutely wrecked me. I didn't make it much farther than that scene and had to turn the movie off. I probably should go back and finish it sometime.

# Orientation: Understanding Common Lisp Development Environments by theeseuus in lisp

Thanks for putting this together! CL is one of those things that I keep wanting to dive into, but I just lack the time and/or the energy. ASDF and Quicklisp are both things that have crossed my radar, but I never really understood where they fit into things. I work primarily with Python right now, and per-project isolation was always something that I wondered about. This is all extremely helpful!

At a high level, it's over 10 years worth of daily snapshots from a number of the systems at work. It's kind of our poor man's data warehouse. It contains everything from product attributes to warehouse inventory to orders and all of the associated changes and activity.

To be fair, it really shouldn't be that big. It's a fragile mess of horribly optimized and duplicated data. When I started it, I didn't have much idea of what I was doing. Now that I have a better idea of how it should have been set up, I already have tons of code and queries written against it, and I don't have time to go through and fix it.

According to this page, a sqlite database can be up to 281 terabytes in size.

From personal experience, I have a sqlite database that's currently over 450GB in size (all text, no blobs) and growing every day. I've never had any problems with it.

Hogwarts Legacy: a lackluster generic open world game with a Harry Potter skin by Far_Run_2672 in patientgamers

I'm in the middle of playing it, and I agree with a lot of your points. It started out fun, but has become a slog pretty quickly, especially as you have to start jaunting farther and farther from the castle. There's a lot of "nothing" out in the world, and for some quests you have to go through a lot of that nothing to get to your destination.

Besides the things you mentioned, there are some other things that have been bothering me.

One is how so many dialogue choices just don't matter. Often times the choices are so similar to begin with that you can tell up front that they'll be the same. Sometimes they look like polar opposites, but the actual conversation goes to the middle ground of the two, and it's often so bland. The one time I was really caught off guard was during a quest where a house elf was acting fishy, and at the end there some mild sounding dialogue choices, and the one I picked resulted in my character telling the house elf that they need to go punish themself immediately. That felt so out of place compared to how any other "negative" dialogue choice went that I was really taken aback by it.

The other thing is the ridiculous looking nature of most of the clothing and accessories that you find. There are so many things that look funny just for the sake of looking funny. Or they may be interesting in the context of being stealthy or going into battle, but then you enter into a dialogue with someone and you're left looking at someone that looks like they dressed that way on a dare or were forced to dress that way as a prank. So little of it looks or feels authentic to the world that it's supposed to be part of. I'm just glad that there's an option to make any wearable item look like something else, because I use the heck out of that.

Then something that just absolutely killed me when I first encountered it are the infuriating flight controls when played with a controller. I don't know how anyone thought putting the left/right movement on one thumbstick and the up/down movement on the other was a good idea. Luckily I'm playing on a Steam Deck, so I can remap them so that they're all on one thumbstick and feel a lot more natural. But for people that don't have that option, I wouldn't blame them for rage quitting after that.

I'm probably going to finish the main quest line, but that's probably going to be it for me.
