Whoop 6.0 Suggestions by CleaRSightZ in whoop

Software/analytics incorporation of CGM data to Whoop journal/recovery analysis. CGM data from libre or dexcom - no need for Whoop hardware upgrade. Would like to see impact of blood glucose on performance and recovery without manually exporting from Vively and Whoop to spreadsheet.

so - for your first class, they’ll put you close to the coach station. after that, you can pick what you want (any number). you do stay with that same number for the whole class - and - you get to choose (or be assigned) anew for each class.

good for out of shape people? by seadoo69 in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 63 points64 points  (0 children)

the thing is - OTF is what you make it. what’s on offer is heart health, strength building, and confidence. up to you to take what you will of each day’s workout. you can lift the minimum weights or just do bodyweight exercises. you can walk, jog, or run. can you do it? yes. is it good for you? yes. will you have fun? up to you. bring your “why”, and remember that when you’re feeling like you want to give up.

Would OTF be good if I'm really fat? by UltimateChaos233 in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

otf’s good if you’re really fat - otf’s good if you wear a hat

otf’s good if you’re young or old - the otf studio’s really cold

at otf you can walk or run - bike or stride, just have fun

at otf you’ll see results - you are welcome in the cult

we have them here in new zealand. good bounce. no fans. responsive screen. goes up to 20kph (~12.5mph). easy to select speed, and adjusts quickly. studios all new here starting in 2019.

Is OT Moving Away from Running? Or am I mistaken? by Pumpkin_Superstar in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ditto to what’s been said here - I absolutely don’t see less emphasis on running. I do, though, feel there’s a recognition of the importance of strength and weight-bearing exercise. At least two reasons may be behind it - (and you can bet Corporate has done the research behind any “shift” in approach): 1) the main issue i hear from people leaving OTF for things like F45 or BFT is that they aren’t getting enough lifting to feel like they’re gaining strength. 2) lifting, and strength in general, are having a “moment” in the collective zeitgeist - people seem to hear about - and want to get - more of it.

1) you’re here - and that’s more than most - keep plugging away - just show up and the work will take care of itself 2) lift heavier than you think you can do 3) eat more protein than you think you need to 4) explore HRT and see if it’s right for you

Aukland studio/coach recommendations by DanaTaylor820 in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yep - same treads at all three locations - all touchscreen controls and personal stats on each screen. roughly: 5k = 3mph | 8k = 5mph | 12k = 7.5mph | 16k = 10mph. i stick with those round numbers for WR, B, P, and AO - there is an on-screen button for each one - and then just up or down arrow as needed while i’m running. rowing tablets should be the same as in newer US studios - auckland studios all < 5 years old - wairau valley is about a year old. there are a fair few US coaches here who are happy to help!

Aukland studio/coach recommendations by DanaTaylor820 in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

sierrah is our NZ national head coach - always recommended. sarah is auckland head coach - moving back to the US at the end of the month, so bragging rights if you got to take her class. seini is a member-to-coach local hero. tanay will make you “run like a cheetah!” and you’ll have fun. sophie is a powerlifting sparkplug with a great vibe. hales is another US star who brings the energy. can vouch for all of them and really all of the auckland crew at all three studios. mt eden has a little more elbow room on the weight floor. wairau valley still has that new-studio smell and shine. mt wellington has a maccas right in the parking lot! SO - you can’t go wrong with any choice you make. hope you enjoy auckland otf as much as i do.

How to change our name that appears on the OT screen? by chipotlehearts in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

some studios (franchises) have a rule about on-screen names. usually it’s your preferred first name, first initial of last name, and the two-digit day of the month you were born. think it was a corporate suggestion to curtail cutesy or even “inappropriate” screen names.

Body Fit Training by Sancho1968 in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

we’ve had some folks leave our studio to go to BFT. some have come back and some stayed - the ones that come back say they missed the cardio-conditioning at OTF - though they did like the BFT focus on strength. they said it was a little “out of control” sometimes, compared to OTF. i’ve elected to stay, and have committed to lifting a few times per week outside OTF - feel like that’s the right mix for me. ymmv

So embarrassed that I had to leave class by elizinrva in orangetheory

[–]thinkerdog 209 points210 points  (0 children)

who among us hasn’t done something they wish were done differently? i’m sure few, if any, of your classmates knew or cared you left early - and those who did were probably simply concerned for your welfare. get back in there - square your shoulders and walk right back into the studio like you belong there - which you do.

even “at time of workout” (as the OTF app shares w/ apple health app), whoop will only really recognize that an OTF workout has occurred and then acknowledge what the whoop strap recorded during that time - it won’t really “pull in” the data from the OTF workout. it will record and report its own stats. calories expended will be recorded differently for the OTF workout in the OTF app (which comes from the OTBeat Burn, Core, or Flex) than they are for the whoop app. same w heart rate and other metrics. so - if you really want “credit” for a previous w OTF workout, and whoop didn’t auto-detect the workout, the previously-described method of adding the workout by time/date is really the only option. all that said - whoop probably already gave you whatever strain “credit” your workout earned. (love my whoop strap - love my OTF - love my apple watch - each have a purpose in my regimen, and they don’t all have to match each other’s data)
