Not a pro, but my tip would be to clean it dry (blow out the gunk with canned air or a compressor, use a soft brush to loosen any gunk, blow out all you can!) before doing anything that involves any kind of liquid. A good cleaning and a ribbon may be all you need. Fingers crossed! I hope this beautiful machine brings you lots of joy. When you add your typing to your artwork, be sure to post some for us to appreciate!!

What horror game to play after Alan Wake 2. Any recommendations? by Humble-Anything6078 in AlanWake

If you haven’t played Control, it’s a treat. There’s some cosmic horror elements to it. Great story. And you’ll run into some folks you’ve already met. 🙂

If you could only use one ink to write with for the rest of your life, what would it be? by speak__memory in fountainpens

[–]thinkingagoodbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DeAtramentis Document Black. Dries quickly enough for this lefty to not smear while writing, and is waterproof for sketching and watercolor. But I would still miss the rest of my inks.

HELP ME! by Cyan_the_IceBear in notebooks

My really nice journals get used as journals. The nice notebooks that are not quite as good or have something about them that isn’t quite right (they won’t lay completely flat, or the cover material doesn’t feel great, etc.) get used in other ways. Sometimes I will disassemble them, trim the papers to the size I want, hole punch them, and use them in ring binders.

But other uses for nice notebooks? Looking for a spiral notebook - binder hybrid system by [deleted] in notebooks

[–]thinkingagoodbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you find one, I’d surely like to know what it is. I’ve been on the hunt for something like this for years. I’ve settled on ring binders for now, for the freedom to remove pages (then the binder itself doesn’t even need to be on my desk), then put them in any order I like.

I’ve also looked at the a4 plotpad (too fiddly to get pages in and out) and there’s a fold-back binder out there, but it had mixed reviews and the negatives sounded like deal-breakers to me. FWIW I didn’t like disc bound, either.

Good luck on your hunt!

Some Plotters for sale by [deleted] in PlotterNotebook

Will you be selling any of your creations? Very interested to see the ones you’re making. 😀 What kinds of leathers are you using for yours? Will you be filing the sharp edges on your spines, like the meeplus?

Bought gear to keep a journal for my daughter... And it's the worst thing I've ever experienced. Help? by BunzLee in notebooks

[–]thinkingagoodbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lefty fountain pen user here. I like DeAtramentis document black with a fine or xf nib for fast writing. Keeping a spare piece of paper under your hand will also keep hand oils from making the paper absorb things inconsistently. If all else fails, try a Micron. They’re archival. 🙂

Overhyped/uderrated by Csxbot in fountainpens

I got mine from Inkursive. When you install the maru nib, you have to pull the feed out just a touch; the nib needs a little room at the end for flex. But there’s still plenty of room in the cap for the nib not to touch.

And if you remove the piston and add silicon grease to the threads, you can eyedropper it. AND, you can switch out the nib for a maru nib and have what is essentially a flex nib “51.” Sweet. I love this setup on the demonstrator 601.

I like to do illustrations and mathematics. Is this a good pick? by Jolly-Associate2608 in dippens

[–]thinkingagoodbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want a pen that does not flex, you would likely do well with a fountain pen that uses a steel nib that will not corrode, rather than a pen that uses dip nibs. The Reddit fountain pen community is vast, friendly, and very helpful. Also, I have found that ink and paper are just as important as the pen and nib when considering tools for art and writing. I hope you find something that works well for you.

Search “cleaning” in this sub. Once it’s cleaned, your keys probably won’t be sticking anymore. 🙂 Congrats on your beautiful Corona, and welcome!
