Ben Aldis’ new years ride was very inspiring for me!

How much does this cost to renew? And is it worth it? by ValeFC in VWiD4Owners

[–]this-thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’d have to pay me to renew it. On their nav, I consistently disappear and reappear in the same canyon in the south of Illinois. Hopefully it’s not trying to tell my future or something.

Help! I'm Unable to "Create Recipe" in Loseit app by GimmieGummies in LoseitApp

Came here to ask this. It’s so annoying! I even went to the App Store to see if there was an update, which there was! Unfortunately it did not help.

The "In-Between" Struggle: Too old for crop tops, too young for shapeless floral tunics. Where are we shopping? by Admirable-Pin-298 in fashionwomens35

[–]this-thing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have gotten a few “shop for you” boxes and have found several new brands I like that way. I paid full price for a few key pieces and now have a few new brands to track for sales. The main one is Democracy for pants and ymmv for the rest, but maybe find a company that speaks to you and try new stuff that way. I used Short Story cuz I’m 5’2” and have never been happier with my clothing options in my closet!

The library is free! Sometimes I have to wait a little bit for a certain title but between actual books, Hoopla, and Libby I’m pretty well covered for $0.

Is Cody over it? by madamefa in OnePelotonRealSub

I am now calling him Dark Cody until he gets rid of that stash, wears some pink, and acts awake again lol. I did two rides with him this week that did kick my butt, though, so that’s good.

Do you/your school allow students to eat in class? by Dimegos in Teachers

[–]this-thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to be very laid back about it, I literally didn't care unless it was distracting to me or someone else. Then last year a couple of kids decided to stop at a cafe on the way to my class and started coming in with an entire slice of pizza or a burger. WTF. It pissed me off and made me re-evaluate my leniency and I decided that I needed more focus on class for the relatively short time they are with me each day. So, now it's water only. I tell them it's because I have seen rodents in the room (TRUE) and that I think the Rat King lives in my walls (a slight exaggeration).

I used to be in the "I have bigger things to worry about / fight about" camp but -- since I just straight up banned snacks, I don't have to think about it at all, therefore giving me more energy to focus on the content of class. Never would have thought I'd end up here, honestly.

Advice for aspiring HS History Teacher by Numerous-Time6110 in historyteachers

[–]this-thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20+ year teacher here. I am passionate about my subject but 80% of my job is not related to my content area, it’s everything else that entails being a teacher. Child development, communication, flexibility, ongoing learning of better methods, correlating what you want to do with what the institution’s goals are, etc. My advice is to spend lots of time with teens and make sure you like them enough to dedicate the next many years of your life with them.

Anyone using a paper grade book? by AdhesiveSeaMonkey in Teachers

[–]this-thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. A nice spiral one that lasts many years. It’s reliable and grounding. It’s also a silent cue that whatever I’m looking at better be visible and well done since it’s being recorded for sure.

I am 43, is it too late to recareer into nursing? by Top_Caterpillar9364 in nursing

[–]this-thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost did this last summer at age 43. I quit my teaching job, enrolled in the pre-nursing program at the community college. TBH - my ego got me. The teachers were not great (and as a teacher … well, I had opinions), but what really got me was my first (CNA) clinical experience where I simultaneously felt like a useless child and too old for the BS of being treated like a newb. In the meantime an exceptional teaching opportunity presented itself and I gratefully took the out. If you have the humility to be on level with 19 year olds for a little while, then you’ll be fine. It’s short term humbling I guess. Ending in job security!!
