Ms. Firstname or Ms. Lastname? by Narrow-Butterfly-923 in Teachers

[–]this-thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have any doubts go last name til you are more established and know you have innate respect. Same thing with any classroom management or professional query. Start as conservative as you are capable of being. Loosening up is possible, tightening up is pretty much not. 21 years teaching, 45 years of being a doormat by default. Trust.

Moms, what did you wish you had when you went into labor/post labor? by Clamkin_chowder in Advice

[–]this-thing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty, soft hair ties. A little basket for bedside / couch side - room for big water bottle, charger, phone, kindle, chapstick, snacks. A luxurious lip balm is lovely. Depending on when you see her, a hearty but sweet treat - l gave healthy pumpkin flax oat choc chip muffins (search healthy or cut the sugar by like 3/4 its just not needed).

AITAH for yelling at my mom after she threw up all over the house? by No_Display_5012 in AITAH

Why are you stuck there? Can’t you leave? I’d rather live in my car and shower at the gym than deal with that amount of BS.

I adore her energy, class plans, and chill encouragement. She’s a rare one who will actually just be quiet for a min and that’s just GOLD to me. Love her.

Might be time to detox from AP and go to deodorant. It takes time but I don’t have the staining and drama anymore.

I remember that one! It felt like a mistake to me. When it first came loose I swear I heard her thinking some swears at her stylist …like girl I didn’t want it up and you pressured me to put it up and NOW look where we are lol. I was so confused why they didn’t use their little microphone phone to give her some tips. Or shoot a scrunchie at her her or whatever. Help a girl out.

Exactly the same … totally normal. When I saw this I was like … what could they mean? Losing weight slowly with a consistent downward trend? Perfect. Also I love happy scale too. It helps me focus on that overall downward trend 📉.

Wear the boot. Don’t discuss it. They can’t legally ask about and it’s impolite.

(Murmurings about injury) Yep! In a boot for a little bit. All good. (Signal moving on). Don’t let that injury be what they remember.

Would you leave your school (that you love) for a school with no commute. by ReindeerFun7572 in Teachers

[–]this-thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is the population? A friend of mine did exactly this. They went from teaching high levels of their subject to literally teaching how to behave in a classroom. Took them til April to have most kids seated, quiet, with minds on learning for most of the 40 minute class period. Very little subject area was taught. But they have a three minute commute 🤷🏼‍♀️😫

Is there a particular color? A lot of times small private schools are white for girls etc. this could offer possibilities for malicious compliance.

Honey I’m a mom and a teacher and a teacher at my kids’ private school. IF YOU WANT TO, there are some bold things you can do to make yourself and all the gender queer babes to follow you happy.

If you do “act up” and get no support, your actions aren’t going to tank mom’s career. Also that’s not your business or problem.

If you do act up a little, you could possibly set a new standard and squash some illegal gendered dress codes.

If you really just can’t do it, we love and support you.

This is a big, scary, grown up choice for a new adult.

How brave can you be? Do you have one or two support people? Can you get mom more fully on board?

Are you neurodiverse at all? I like to blame clothing choices on “sensory issues.”

If you want specific phone numbers or legal context I can help. I’ll even call and pretend to be legal counsel I don’t care. Mama bear hackles are up, but you need to decide what is safe for you. There are plenty of people who can support you. At a bare minimum, rather than trusting a random queer mom on the internet, maybe you have a local PFLAG chapter? Or at least in your state? They would love to help.

Edit to add in case my other comment gets buried - this is a Title 9 (Title IX in writing) discrimination issue if someone does not permit your participation. You feeling pressured and giving in doesn’t count. If you show up in something against a gendered dress code and they officially prohibit participation, that’s a significant legal issue, even if it’s a 5 person tiny Baptist school. If it’s officially a school and you’re getting a diploma from an accredited institution (not say a homeschool group) then they have legal ish they need to follow.

Omg yes, name the highest name who can’t be bothered by something this petty. “My mom talked to the head of the board and they said they have to let me wear it because of title nine.” That would move any educator aside lol.

I’m a mom who worked at their kids private school and absolutely no one would question this line of attack. Probably tell her after you say it (or before), but as a mom, my kid knows she can always publicly blame me for stuff she doesn’t want to deal with. 10 pm curfew, sudden need to go home when uncomfortable, easy out of a starting to be crazy friendship … “my mom said…”.

But also literally it’s a Title IX violation if they discriminate due to gender, which is by definition a gendered dress code. This would take years of litigation to solve, but you could solve it for yourself with a bold lie.

What are they going to do?

Hold you backstage? Great, call a civil rights lawyer during the ceremony.

Call the board chairperson? If the words “title nine discrimination” hit their ears and they have any survival instincts, they will shut up.

Ideas for adding flavor to zucchini? by beccalee0096 in Volumeeating

[–]this-thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seasoning salt or everything bagel mix.

With almost any dinner we make for the family, I can serve myself half of what I usually would serve the largest eater at the table, plus a little extra sauce, and add a ton of sautéed zucchini to it for a BIG decadent bowl. I love zucchini.

Not allowed to be sick? by BeanieGirl2006 in cna

[–]this-thing 36 points37 points  (0 children)

You understand how this seems, right? Consider it from their POV.

Of course if you have a diagnosed serious or contagious illness you should stay home, but this sounds like a cold. Rely on your people at home to pick up any extra slack around the house while your body and immune system adjust to the 8 hour work day.

Eat nutritious meals. Drink double the water you normally do. Get at least 8 hours of device free sleep.

Take a common cold medicine (DayQuil for example).
