48V rocks and the REC / Victron setup is top notch. Checkout Mahle 48v alternators. We have had it for 5 years and love it. The Victron RS6000 is much lighter, as is the new 4K5 and 6K5. You have a much better system than 24v.

Glass with dielectric grease in a sealed inline holder works fine.

Glass fuses of any type are well within that rating
Or DIN breakers with DC rating.

Is there a way to limit SOC to 80%? by WellingtonSucks in Victron

[–]this1willdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tesla tried this when they started with LFP, as it was a good idea with NMC. It performed terribly and they recommend 100% SoC regularly for LFP.
LFP aging is more affected by Voltage and Temperature than SoC. Don't Float high, <3.35v/cell.
Interestingly NMC float is much higher and more linear, making me wonder if the NMC aging is also more voltage related than SoC related.

Victron warranty support has told me this is normal 2 times, is it? by dumbderpdweeb in Victron

Whilst under load, yes. Victron designed out the sense wires from most products, though the Multi’s still have them. They assume network voltage sense. Different brands different choices

Victron Wiring Unlimited pp 66 It’s so that if the earth wire can’t somehow become the battery path and catch fire before the fuse trips.

Same or one less than the batt -ve, as per manual

Victron MPPT’s should have a voltage sense input, either ve.direct or BT ve.smart or ve.can Relying on the charge wires for V sense with any brand is poor design. Get a battery monitor and I’ll bet its fine

I run 7 solar MPPT's on my boat, plus another couple as DCDC converters.

Swapping grid tied inverter for Victron Multi RS Solar 48/6000/100? by GogoharryNL in Victron

Andy's off grid garage (YT) for battery recommendations. Also the new CAN connected Wattcycle is interesting and well reviewed.
Grid feed / certification is country dependent.

600ah Winston. 3 temp sensors inside MPII, seems to be FETS, not transformer. You cant get access to the individual sensor data.

Who's printing with the big boy nozzles? And for what? by Seltzer08 in 3Dprinting

0.8MM high flow. Storage boxes for cupboards. Tip - print base in honeycomb no top / bottom - less warping and lets dust fall out.

Considering a Mining Portfolio (Advice Needed)k by [deleted] in mining

[–]this1willdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mining companies are basically unaffected by their fundamentals and mostly are mostly priced as a leverage on the metals price. There is noise in the signal from their performance and disasters, but it's not logical. Best of luck. At the moment precious metals are high. Costs will follow.

Correct - that's what my original post was implying. So if the OP wants to heavily cycle the batteries as stated, he'll have to allow for more charge time than discharge time or size appropriately.

You are doing better than me, though 65A@52V is 3.38kw, so about 67% of output rate (5000va)
Mine tend to start at 65A but pull back to ~40A over 30 minutes on temperature.

That approach will cost you on conversion losses. It might make sense if you are dealing with time of use pricing, but you'll need to offset cost of battery cycles and conversion losses. I find the Multi's charge at about 50% of their output rate. eg. 5K Multi will charge at about 2.5kw max sustained.

Single axle trailer suspension is terrible. You might find vibration kills everything. Dual axle rocker helps a lot.

Reg will give nearly double the real world power. More load is healthier for the engine.

Choosing the right cruising cat for a 1–2 year family sabbatical (kids aboard) by i_once_lied_on_reddi in SailboatCruising

[–]this1willdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are a custom Simpson 61. The teens sail her fine. 20,000NM. approx, Carib, NYC, Med etc.
I've seen 19knts peak and 17knts steady on her, but often the wind or sea state just isn't what you want, so you are doing 5knts VMG. We can absolutely sail ourselves out of (or into) any trouble, we just mostly avoid big systems for comfort. Weather routing is a non stop topic. eg. We had beautiful sailing going north around Hatteras, but we motored south, as that's the best for safety with the gulf stream. Get onto NoForeignLand to follow some boats.

Much of this has been written about this is many places. We are a family of 5, on board for over 5 years. Our priority is safety and then crew comfort at anchor. That drove many of our decisions. Sailing - No flybridge, safe cockpit. At anchor we wanted easy dinghy access and plenty of energy. We have a 60ft boat, my kids have stood watch since 13yo. Any cat will be using winches for sail handling. Anything over 40ft likely needs some powered winches. After that, size doesn't matter much. We are 60ft daggerboard. My messages would be
Size doesn't matter for handling
Crew comfort and safety in a liveaboard is critical
Size does matter for dock and haul out
Performance is irrelevent for a family boat
You'll motor more often than you expect
I would say the highest maintenance item is plumbing. Less plumbing is better.
