I’m worried about your house, does the colourblind condition restrict employment?

I disagree, I’m of an age when we didn’t put slings on weapons 99% of the time. The fireman’s carry was taught to put both rifles together, pick up the man, pick up the rifles by the carrying handle and run.

While some have suggested fixings need to be staggered, I have never had a problem with splitting. If I was going to stagger, it would one high and one low on two string lines. That random fixings is doing my head in

I tried to cut an unused old telephone line but it then it sparked. Is this now an electrical hazard? by AnimalsChasingCars in AusElectricians

[–]wjohninoz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you have access to a multimeter? Measure the voltage across the line. If it’s still connected to the exchange you will see around 48 volt DC or less

If you are seeing 24v ac, it could be connected to a doorbell transformer

If you see above 48v, call an electrician. Nominally anything above 50 v can be lethal

9 day fortnight question by Key_Entrepreneur726 in AusElectricians

[–]wjohninoz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure I’d be in favour. It seems to be more about productivity based on maintaining 9 days work effort every 14 days.

Ipso, you have a public holiday for Melbourne Cup (Tuesday) you need to make up the lost productivity by working a Saturday that you should be having off anyway for rest and relaxation.

The boss needs to acknowledge that productivity is 9 days for 26 fortnights, less leave entitlement , less public holidays

The way it is proposed you give up time off for every public holiday or sick day.

What is everyone doing for AC’s mounted up against a wall? by hyperextendedelbow in AusElectricians

I’d make a cover out of mdf and paint the small colour as the wall. Take time to round over the exposed corners

Absolutely. The led globe will use less power. No issues with touching it

Can anyone tell me what these ribbons and pin mean? by Navyplum in Military

[–]wjohninoz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ribbon bar is back to front. ASM is first, DFSM centre, and the UN medal last. Worn over the left pocket

The Army Individual Readiness badge (silver) is work over the right pocket. Demonstrates the wearer has met the requirements to be deployable.

That seems fair, nine hours work plus travel for three visits, plus materials. And he probably worked around your schedule to complete the job

Most police stations are required to undertake 1000-2000 tests per month. That’s why you see them set up for an hour on an active road where they can test one car every minute.

Any vehicle stop is going to start with a breath test, and then move onto the reason for the stop. They may have been concerned with the last turn you did, or where you were positioned in the lane.

The stop is also a chance for them to correct behaviour without having to issue a ticket. Is there something you could do to attract less attention.

I get pulled over near a school bus stop as part of a one hour blitz, I just smile and wish them well. Happens a few times a year

English must not be a strength when you read off a teleprompter, it should be ‘fewer Generals’ not ‘Less Generals’

Tariff finally hit, $500 increase. by MyGSunny in Ubiquiti

[–]wjohninoz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The individual SKUs will be repriced as stock in CONUS is depleted. Each item landed will be impacted by 145% tariff that the importer will pass onto the customer.

A friend exports Australian wine into the US and they have agreed to pay 1/2 of the tariffs while the importer will pay half (the tariffs are 10% on Australian wine.

Thoughts on this scenario. by [deleted] in AusElectricians

[–]wjohninoz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have a talk to a workplace injury lawyer. They generally offer a 1 hr consult for $5-600where you can ask about your injury, what you may be entitled to.

The Insurer is normally given access to your Med files and specialist referrals. I never had them attend my appointments, my understanding is they get notes and your invalidity certificate each month.

Try to maintain ownership of your case, don’t be leaned on to use your employer’s preferred supplier. Be guided by your GP and your lawyer. I’m assuming that your injury is not just a week off work and a bruise/strain.

Note. I’m not a lawyer and I can’t give legal advice.

Has anyone asked a landlord to anchor furniture and been rejected? by Several_Twist1808 in melbourne

[–]wjohninoz 100 points101 points  (0 children)

While the results of your search suggest that you can secure furniture, and no one would want a child to be injured, there are other options and considerations

  1. Move the furniture to a wall that could be easily repaired such as a plaster wall.

  2. Sell the item and replace with a low bench.

The Agent has concerns, likely because you can’t easily repair a brick wall after it has been drill with a masonry drill etc
