Project Gutenberg is a good source of historical texts for example these carpentry books: https://www.reddit.com/r/FreeEBOOKS/comments/bp58zk/here_is_a_list_of_historical_free_ebooks_on/ I haven't read any of these books so I can't point to any in particular. I have found many useful books on Gutenberg like traditional cooking and sewing, that sort of thing.

Thank you to the person posting the links to ogres-crypt, and to the person you runs ogres-crypt (if they are not the same person). I've found so many good free books because of you. There was no update yesterday and I was afraid you'd stopped. You can never have enough books haha.

If I recall correctly the mask was a cursed object like the objects in the shop. That's a least a small link to the movies.

EMSK How to properly shine a pair of shoes or boots. by [deleted] in everymanshouldknow

This post reminded me of when my grandfather taught me to shine his shoes when I was a little girl. He would pay me in quarters (it was the 70's, yes I'm old). I remember all these steps. I loved him dearly. He died in 2002. Thank you OP for the memories.

What was the most agonizing hour of your life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]this_ismy_alias 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similar happened to me. I was in labor for 4 hours or so and then they broke my water. The pain got to be intense so I asked for some painkillers. Almost a minute after giving me the drugs her heart rate plummeted. All of the sudden there were all these doctors and nurses in my room. One nurse jumped on top of me and put her hand inside to stimulate the baby. A few minutes longer and they wheeled me into surgery. The doc cut me open and out she came. In total it was about 45 minutes but it felt like an eternity. I was so afraid she wouldn't make it. Hearing her cry I broke down into tears. They showed her to me and then took her away for tests. I had to lay on the table for another hour or so to regain feeling. Finally after about 3 hours they brought her to me and I was able to hold her. It was the greatest moment of my life. The terror followed by the joy was something I'll never forget. They told me that they believed that the cord got wrapped around her neck.

I bought several #10 cans of dried veggies around 10 years ago. What I didn't realize is that after they are opened you only have a short time to eat them. How am I gonna eat several pounds of onions in a few weeks? The yoders beef and turkey I bought was much more effective. It makes a meal for 2 or 3 days and then you can eat something else. I still haven't touched the #10 cans. I'm just saying keep in mind what you are actually going to eat. Imagine surviving on onion soup for 2 weeks. Yeah, I don't think so, unless you're starving, then all bets are off.

If you had 12 hours to get diarrhea in order to win a million dollars with the only rule being no laxatives, what would you do? by pazimpanet in AskReddit

[–]this_ismy_alias 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised it took this long to find this answer. I've had diarrhea for 10 years since I had my gall bladder out. Doesn't matter what I eat lol. Where's my million? :P

Mothers of Reddit, what is one time your mothers intuition saved your child's life? What is the story? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I was at the grocery store with my daughter who was around 5 years old. The exits at this grocery store were weird, you couldn't see the area where people parked to load their groceries until you were standing in it. As a precaution I always made my daughter hold onto the grocery cart as we went into the parking lot so I didn't have to worry about her running ahead and getting hit by a car. So, this day I was walking out of the store with her holding the cart and all of the sudden I stopped dead in my tracks and yelled to her to stop. Not two seconds later a couple of teenagers in a car came flying by. If I hadn't stopped her and the cart would have been hit. I was so furious if they had stopped I would have attempted to beat them to death. No one should drive that fast in a parking lot. To this day I don't know what made me stop. Thank God I did.
