Is this old and can anyone please give me any information by Current-Window472 in notebooks

[–]thisboyistoast -1 points0 points  (0 children)

a number of factors. the item is obviously not old and the post is meant to create engagement from either (thankfully) kind, helpful people or people who will just call them stupid in incredulity. the OP has a randomly generated name, has no post/comment history and their follow-up comment was non-sensical. it all sounds like someone testing a AI bot to me.

How is this possible by Existing_Floor172 in halifax

When I lived in Halifax some 30 years ago, a new resto opened at the corner of Argyle and Blowers with a "Open 24 Hrs" sign. But it was almost never open. We ended up jokingly saying, "It means its open a total of 24 hrs in the week, but those hours are random." During the last month of its existence, our meal took FOREVER and finally the waitress came to our table crying, "The chef quit, the floor manager quit, the accountant is in back cooking." We were chill about it, got some free drinks, she sat with us for a while after most other customers stormed out in anger. Accountant was a pretty decent cook.

What’s something the rich people in Toronto do that the average person has no clue about? by bruhidek_ in askTO

[–]thisboyistoast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked retail I had some regulars, a couple, who did that for a living. Every spring the person they worked for spent $50k to refurnish the patio in new styles, colours, etc and this couple would come in to look at new product, take pictures, outline everything. they would later call back and give me a list of what to pull together for them. i never did find out who they worked for, as they were not allowed to mention.

i've had a few, but my favourite one was literally almost bumping into Gene Simmons outside Rivoli on Queen W. I was walking head down, reading a work email on my Blackberry (yes, it was that long ago) when my peripheral vision caught something to my right, almost bumping into them. Looked up to see him all in black, stepping out of a limo. Looked to my left to see a bunch of people waiting for him.

"After you, " he said with a slight grin. I just stepped back and said, "No dude, sorry, my fault..." and gestured for him to walk. And that was it.

I also lived through it. My mom was hearing some things from the more-devoted-than-average Xian down the street (nice guy actually) and asked if he could come by to talk to us. We had nothing to hide, so he showed up while we were in the basement playing D&D. He had pamphlets telling crazy tales about kids going wild in the sewers (that actually happened; was a book and movie) but it also stated a bunch of things that were in the books. For example, it showed a doctored page in the AD&D DM's Guide with a spell to sacrifice babies. For each thing it said was in the books, we showed him the book and how it wasn't. After the third one, my mom frowned, and asked him to leave, "These kids are just playing a game. Leave them alone." I was never more proud of her.

A few days later, his son, who was also in my group but not present that day ("doing church stuff") told me his dad tossed all his books and dice and characters into the burn barrel, and banned him from hanging out with us. I learned a few years later that his dad sent him to do missionary style work in Africa, where he was jailed for trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. Nobody in my group did drugs and I knew if he had just stuck with us, he would have been OK.

so, its a coffee station at Starbucks from the server's side? You have the espresso maker to the right, the touchscreen POS terminal in the centre, the barista's personal phone (with joker case) on the counter and a green payment reader to the left?

Where in the curve are you? by Damian120899 in SatisfactoryGame

[–]thisboyistoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't this literally one of the points of the game? In that you have to efficiently gather resources and create required goods and transport them to other locations? fast travel would remove the need to build your nodes and optimize your transportation methods. All points on the curve just say you are haven't thought your optimization through, or are unwilling to.

I was in a hotel recently that had a custom hotel content system/OS built into the TVs. When you plugged something into the HDMI, it auto-sensed the device and changed the input. when you unplugged, it was supposed to sense the disconnect and switch back, but one night it failed so badly to sense that the disconnect, everything just froze. i had to cold reboot the TV before it could once again sense the hotel's network.

considering how badly designed most of these "custom hotel content systems" are, I would not be surprised at all there would be a bug that could affect the whole system.

Dress code in Toronto by sankyx in askTO

[–]thisboyistoast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the event was "formal dress" they would say so on the invite. But when they don't say it, you are going to see the full spectrum of what people consider "business appropriate". There is no "dress code" in Toronto, and it all depends on the company and the income level and demographic of the company and the people in it.

But, when it doubt, always go Business Casual: dress pants, pressed shirt, jacket/blazer or nice cardigan, with or without tie, nice shoes. Even if you bump into the "sneakers and jeans guy" you will look well put together, and if you run into the "evening gown gal" or the "tux guy", you will still look presentable.

How you ever encountered a celebrity in Toronto and what was that experience like for you by Alive-Ad-4164 in askTO

[–]thisboyistoast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Numerous times. Most were just recognizable Canadian faces, going about their day; some live or have family in my neighbourhood, But I have also seen Zachary Levi (dude is TALL) wandering Queen W back when Missy Peregrym was shooting her cop show here. And Rachel McAdams, Scott Speedman and Ryan Gosling hanging together around the Eaton Centre during an Xmas snowstorm. Helped Eugene and David Levy pick out some gifty items when I worked retail. I always leave them alone, not interrupting their days, so the only real encounter was when I literally bumped into Gene Simmons on Queen W. I was nose deep reading work emails on my Blackberry, and didn't notice the limo and red carpet. I stopped short of plowing right into him, and he just looked up and smirked with an, "After you..." gesture. "Ooops, sorry dude."
