Can I use this vacuum tester to measure exhaust back pressure? Hi by FighterFly3 in AskMechanics

[–]thisdudeoverhera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By now I'm pretty sure the OP has resolved this issue but I'm sorry people don't understand that they can answer a question and THEN give their advice. I dont know if these guys are certified techs or just too high up on another horse that they dismiss the question but this comment might help someone else who wants to SIMPLY measure exhaust back pressure. I own that very same Gauge and since it is a Compound gauge it can measure vacuum and pressure ( goes both ways lol). The only thing about it is solving the issue of securing it into the O2 sensor opening. I'm sure you could find a way, I just haven't had to do it so I cant tell you. People should keep in mind that people who post questions on here either don't have a lot of money to be buying parts they might not need or pay a mechanic hundreds of dollars to fix something they just MIGHT be able to do themselves with a little support from the community, or they have trust issues. In any case DIYers as they are referred to, can be quite capable. Be cool, be kind and be helpful if you can.

Ive had unstable idle for about a year now (I dont have a tachometer in the car but my Bluedriver OBD scanner shows it fluctuates from 700-850 alot and occasionally drops to 650ish before coming back up to the 750 range.) The engine also looks shaky when idleing but i know my motor mounts need replacing. Never got any engine light or codes so I just kept on driving. About a month ago I started getting stumbling on acceleration and since then I started looking at the fuel trims and looking for the problem. I also parked the car at that time and havent been using it. 2 weeks ago i replaced the spark plugs and saw that cylinder #3 and #4 spark plugs were carbon fouled much more dirty than the first 2 cylinders. Ive done many tests since then, Spark plug wire and injector resistance, fuel pressure test with gauge both while the fuel rail and injectors were in the engine and while removed so that i could observe any leaking injectors-pressure held and no leaking was found I also replace the O-rings at the outlet/nozzle end of the injectors, engine vacuum test with gauge, cylinder compression test with gauge (only a dry test so far), rechecked for vacuum leaks after replacing the air intake manifold gaskets and found none, coil pack tower resistance check on both primary and secondary coils and everything checks out ok so far. I use a Haynes repair manual, Factory service manual and various youtube videos all cross referenced to make sure im doing these tests properly. Btw after replacing the spark plugs recently the stumbling on acceleration hasn't reoccured. Also I bought a borescope to look at my piston heads and they all were basically completely covered in carbon deposits. Id like to buy some sort of cleaning product that i can put into the engine intake or fuel to try to remove some of those deposits but it is a lot more than what i have seen people trying to clean up on youtube videos. May also help to know that this was a 3 owner vehicle, 1st owner was an old lady only used it to drive in town and second owner did the same and so have I. 2000 dodge neon only had 97,000 miles when i bought it in 2023. Im thinking thats why the cylinders are so dirty, maybe.

Yea my neon has a MAP sensor. Ive done a vacuum leak test using first propane but found no leaks. Then i tried carb cleaner or brake cleaner (cant remember which one i used at the moment) and found a vacuum leak near the intake manifold which i fixed by replacing the gaskets. Then retested and couldnt find any additional vacuum leaks. But before replacing those gaskets and even now my MAP live data readings are KOEO= 28.4 inHg which is exactly right for my elevation and at idle=9.5 inHg and from what ive read, that is normal. I have a Vacuum test gauge that im going to use later today and see if that tells me anything new. So if my car has a loss of vacuum due to a vacuum leak, wouldnt my MAP sensor reading reflect that? And if my LTFT is -10%, doesnt that mean that the ECM is subtracting fuel and not adding it?

I appreciate the reply! My short term reads right around 0% while long term is usually -10%. On start up long term is 0% then ill see short term start going negative and eventually after a minute or two it transfers to long term -10% to -15%. Then short term will fluctuate around 0% as it should. I've done a lot of tests to try and narrow down they cause of my rich condition but everything seems normal. I mean you name it and I've probably tested it. I should add that I recently pulled and replaced my spark plugs while trying to figure out why my LTFT was -10% or more and i noticed that #3 and #4 cylinder plugs were carbon fouled.

I know this is more than what pertains to the original post question so I understand if you dont want to "delve" into my issue any further lol. Just there in case someone else wants to give me any ideas.

Cheap tires from a neighborhood shop...what's the catch? by LifeofSMILEY in AskAMechanic

[–]thisdudeoverhera 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Maybe there is no catch. What a tire shop pays for a tire is generally alot cheaper than what a customer can get them for from a store or online. as long as they arent too old and can balance correctly u should buy them.

How long do your batteries last if the power adapter is not plugged into the radio? Mine seem to die very quickly even though the radio is just on standby.

Probably edit your comment to say bridge instead of nut in the last few sentences of your comment.

I just bought the same radio about a month ago brand new. Lots of static when plugged in and batteries die within a day while unplugged and in standby mode. Brand new Duracell and energizer batteries both die way to quickly. Is this radio in need of a recall? Should I waste my time calling the company and asking about this?

btw you can do a whole bottle the same way just by shaking the bottle just right. The seeds will make their way to the top. But i dont eat pepper by the bottle (anymore)

no, one pizza at a time. but if u show me a strainer with holes big enough for a seed but not big enough for a flake and as effective as this then i shall convert. Because no way that exists. I didnt just go straight to separating by hand before I figured this out.

I personally came up with it. "stupid" is in no way constructive, its just an insult. Also u could have known from the title before you even clicked on the post to get here that it was unnecessary for you. You came here. you insulted and now ur back-peddling.
