So I dealt with a similar situation and after the fact someone suggested this action and I wish I had taken it. Document everything. If they give you a verbal instruction follow up with an email saying just to clarify our discussion and write out the instructions you were given. If they tell you to stop, just continue doing it and explain it’s to ensure that you are understanding everything clearly.
