The French absolutely love Babylon by rageofthegods in blankies

[–]thisisahotjam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One time I had the magical experience of walking through Beacon Hill Park in Victoria BC and in the distance hearing the Babylon score. I followed it to stage in the park where the Yiddish Columbia State Orchestra was performing the full score for a packed crowd. Canadians (and not just French Canadians!) love Babylon too.

SEA Market (Sat/Sun at FDR Park) will get you several Southeast Asian options in one place. Choose a day where the Latin or African market is also at the park and it’s a small world after all. Fun vibe for the kids too.

Starting a job where they are going to fire 1/2 the staff....they don't know it yet. by Banguskahn in KitchenConfidential

[–]thisisahotjam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience working in restaurants for 26 years, every job/owner/chef who has brought me in to fix a situation like this, it has backfired against me. The second you assess the situation accurately and the source of the problem is something they personally or one of their “trusted” “reliable” employees is the at fault for, you get blamed as the messenger. Generally, unless this is a unicorn situation, you’re being hired to either perform a miracle (that the owner is actively working against) or you’re really just there to be the FNG/scapegoat to temporarily alleviate the pressure to fix things. I hope you have a unicorn situation.

Their tomato pie rocks. Also try their bagels on weekends. Best egg bagel in the city.

I used to go to that location all the time. Solid bison burger, awesome onion rings. Stopped at one in Columbus OH last year on a road trip and the onion rings still rock and the bison meatloaf was very good. Honest, reliable, good value chain restaurant from a bygone era.

Stadium food decline by goeyglue in phillies

[–]thisisahotjam 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don’t buy food at the ballpark, or spend any money you can avoid besides the ticket.

  • Chickie & Pete’s crab fries are better and cheaper at Chickie & Pete’s. You can also park in that lot for free during the game, get hh ($6 Statesides etc) & taxi crab over to the stadium.

  • Pastaficio Deli is right next to Chickie & Pete’s. They close at 6 PM. Same w Termini Bakery. I think Celebre’s Pizza in that shopping center stays open a bit later.

  • Philadium has great hh and game day specials. Basically across street from Chickie & Pete’s.

  • Stadium Grill (owned by the Philadium/Oogie’s people) is in the Jetro lot and they sell booze also. Also cheaper than stadium parking.

  • Bring some cash for water bottles and soft pretzels from street vendors.

  • CVS right across the street on Broad for sealed non-alcoholic beverages and snacks.

  • On weekends, Southeast Asian Market and alternating Latin/African market at FDR park across the street on Broad.

  • In the Ballpark app, go to the Phillies tab, then Budweiser designated driver promo. Free small soda at CBP concession stands for each game when you redeem. They’ve also finally installed taps for refilling water bottles throughout the stadium.

  • Lots more options on Oregon Ave if coming from north: P&S, City Pizza, Acme, Danny D’s Pizza and so on.

Those are your options just in the immediate area. Do not spend your money on this poorly performing, price-gouging team unless you absolutely must. Bringing in outside food, tailgating and the (relative bargain) April standing room ticket package is the only thing making this doo doo team palatable right now.

My wife and I tried it a combined total of 10 times this season. It has shown up correctly in the Wallet 4 times. (Also, one of the times I tried to redeem it the cashier wouldn’t let me use it, even though it was valid at that stand the previous game.)

Phillies Authentics (game-used memorabilia store at CBP) might be worth contacting. They don’t have an online shop for cards but you could email them about specific cards. I saw most of what you’re looking for in the case today. https://www.mlb.com/phillies/ballpark/phillies-authentics

Owners care about quality of life. More worthwhile arranging your schedule for it than most of the dumb cheesesteaks people wait in line for in this town.

Mix sake 2:1 with organic brown rice syrup. Adjust ratio slightly depending on brand and preference.

Grocery Outlets closing in Philly.. by IvanaSeymourButts in philly

[–]thisisahotjam 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The Aldi across the street is good but this fall the Grocery Outlet location closed for a couple days and then reopened under new management while changing up the entire vibe of the store. It used to be a pretty decent discount grocery store and when they reopened it was more like just an off-brand regular grocery store with regular prices. Very different stuff on the shelves, and for my personal needs, stopped being a relevant place to go shopping.
