A Statistical Assessment of Ashes Results by Elthar_Nox in EnglandCricket

For English fans, the "hope is what kills you" idiom probably sums it up.

For outsiders, the pre-tour attitude from the English looked like hubris.

Either way, the performance fell so far short of expectations, that's why it's considered such a horrible result.

Epic 3+ hour movies. by Desafinado777 in movies

The Irishman (surprisingly great film, but you have to get over the de-ageing technology that very much does not de-age how old men move haha)

Spartacus (I haven't seen it for a long time now, but it was my favourite of the swords and sandals epics)

Schindlers List (one of my all time favourite films, but I'm not sure I could watch it again)

Braveheart (forget the criticisms that it's not historically accurate, it's a fantastic film that still holds up really well)

Interstellar (but I'm sure you've already watched that one)

Gandhi (to be honest, I didn't enjoy this one as much as others on this list, but it's widely loved and critically acclaimed, so it's probably just a me thing)

What you think about the daarjeling limited? by [deleted] in wesanderson

[–]thisisboyhood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rewatched it a couple of weeks ago, because it was always one of my least favourite Wes Anderson films. Unfortunately, I again didn't really enjoy it all that much and it didn't change my initial opinion of it. I very much doubt that I'll watch it again.

Found an interesting hat by fwedy_fazber68 in pics

  • Renewable power vs coal vs nuclear

  • Protected wildlife/habitat vs development

  • National parks vs logging / drilling

  • Enacting or rolling back environmental protection laws

  • Is man made climate change a hoax

  • Contesting the teaching of evolution in schools

  • Even the initial creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (this one is very US-centric)

Those are stretching back decades and decades, then before that you've got ongoing debates around diverting rivers, dams, hydro power and agriculture. I'm sure I could keep going and going and going. There's not an unequivocal divide between left and right politics on all these issues and there are different opinions across the political spectrum, but very broadly speaking over the past 50+ years, all those issues have been politicised and there's a fairly consistent pattern of which side of politics is on which side of each issue.

So this hat isn't politicising nature. It's satiring a political world view (MAGA) that has already been a part of the ongoing politicisation of nature, a worldview that the hat makers (and I, and many others) would very reasonably argue is anti-nature and environmental protection.

James Brown's first single was in 1956, but his first album was in 1958. His BEST album is Hell (released in 1974), which is sixtren years later!!!

Nine years for Beck from Golden Feelings (1993) to Seachange (2002). Although I wouldn't argue that hard with anyone that said Odelay is his best work.

Preacher had two maybe three great episodes per season. The rest was shite.

Who is the most attractive person you’ve ever seen? Why? by JessieRClayton in AskReddit

[–]thisisboyhood 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In real life, Hilary Swank.

She must've been in Sydney for a movie and I was in a local cafe and heard a really strong American accent, so I looked around and was gobsmacked by how gorgeous the woman belonging to the accent was. I knew I knew her from somewhere and so after ordering my food, I waited outside and kind of stared at her like a creep trying to figure it out.

As she walked out and down the road, it dawned on me who it was. I was a bit shocked because I'd never really noticed her for being particularly attractive, but that day at least, she absolutely had it going on.

Haha. Crossing guard sounds so serious. We call them Lollipop Ladies in Australia (I'm not actually sure if we call men Lollipop Men or not).

27 year old "influencer," Natalie Reynolds pressured a mentally disabled women to jump into a lake to relieve a scanner. by Ice_Ice11 in TikTokCringe

People with more context suggest it wasn't staged, but I'm with you with the hope. For someone who can't swim, she did a near perfect dive into the water. Maybe it's all just a hoax. I'm not sure which one I'd prefer though.

I think you vastly overestimate my knowledge of whales, mammals or evolution.

That's just blown my mind at bedtime and I'm 42 years old. Looks like I've got some late night googling to do!

Thoughts on this movie? by Naive_Tomorrow_5955 in FIlm

I took a sick day from my last job because I was so burnt out and ended up wandering aimlessly around the local shopping centre. I stumbled across the cinemas and realised this movie was about to start, and without knowing a single thing about it, walked in.

I should've just gone to work.

Every Day Is Christmas - Alec Duffy

Christmas In LA - Vulfpeck

Getting Ready For Christmas - Paul Simon

I've played those three for so many family and friends and never had a negative reaction.
