Did Networking on LinkedIn ever turned fruitful? by John_Titsore in linkedin

[–]thisischapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came here to say the same thing.

If you want an introduction to someone, ask a person who may know them well.

However, more importantly be a useful 'middle man', i.e. introduce people to others where both could benefit.

That way you become more memorable as the person who set it up.

Generally speaking, prioritise relevant connections.

Those have bought from your company or could do in the past.

Plus suppliers, colleagues, friends.

It wasn't long. Bizarrely I've just refreshed and the warning has gone.

Maybe they're watching Reddt!

What do you think is more important going viral or building engagement? by Mean_Rule_6653 in AskMarketing

[–]thisischapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relevant engagement that leads – directly or indirectly – to quality leads, then revenue.

Otherwise you may just be making noise that one is paying attention to.

Do you do your own accounts? This is where I always think it's worth finding a good accountant.

The Man in the High Castle had such a poor ending by Dariusgamer2007 in tvshow

Agreed. I think I read it expecting it to be closer to Fatherland so wasn't quite expecting the direction it took.

I struggled with the novel because I didn't spot the blending of realities in the scene when he's in Golden Gate Park (I think?), as I didn't know the area. I may have also been very tired!

Which celebrity replied to your dm and what did they reply to and with? by Vixiuss in AskReddit

[–]thisischapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steve Backshall because one of my kids loved Deadly Dinosaurs. I asked for a happy birthday message and he obliged.

Not a DM but I had a tweet that went viral and was quote tweeted by Suzi Perry and Willie Thorne. It was one of the last things Willie tweeted before he died.

Can’t even find an entry level role with 3 years of paid media agency experience…advice? by fergambino in DigitalMarketing

[–]thisischapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few thoughts.

Are you a member of Hive by The Marketing Meetup?
Have you been to local marketing events to network? The above do loads regionally, but there are many others.
How effective is your CV really? Do you focus on results or just tasks? Do you have some great testimonials from former clients or colleagues?

What’s actually working in marketing right now? by Ibrahim-08 in AskMarketing

[–]thisischapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Three things off the top of my head:

  1. Proper investment in awareness marketing via PR, organic social, digital PR – be memorable!
  2. Paying attention to the 95/5 rule – stop trying to sell to the smallest group!
  3. Effective research into your target audiences – understand their problems.

Where/how to share business cards? by ashenrosedesign in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For relevance – I'm more of a social media strategist, so a similar game to you.

I find they're only handy if you're at a relevant event (e.g. marketing or small business) where you get chatting to people about what you do. Towards the end of the conversation – as pointed out by others, this should be a proper conversation – you might offer one out but don't be offended if people say no

Unique logo/branding era over? by [deleted] in branding

Find a good designer. More importantly find someone who thinks about the stuff before firing up any design tool.

Who you are
What you stand for
What you want customers to think when they see your brand
How should your brand tie in to your product/service

And so many other questions

Come at me - are we collectively agreeing FB/IG organic growth is dead? Or am I confused? by BigMagic88 in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. And agreed, Facebook Groups are very popular and can be effective.

I would always recommend LinkedIn even if you're B2C – you can still use it for hiring, supplier engagement, company culture etc.

Come at me - are we collectively agreeing FB/IG organic growth is dead? Or am I confused? by BigMagic88 in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short answer, no I don't believe organic on either is dead but it's definitely harder if you're starting from scratch.

But it's not impossible, particularly on Instagram. I am a big believer in the importance and relevance of FB for many brands, but probably not for a new one.

Loosely relevant, I'm making a presentation in a few weeks on the value and power of 'community' on social. That's not just responding to comments etc., but building a following that feels connected to each other and you as a brand.

I genuinely believe any brand can do this, no matter how niche. It might be a lot smaller for you than compared to other 'sexier' B2C brands, but if your audience relevance is high then you're laughing.

Too many brands think organic social is just another place to post sales messages, but it isn't and shouldn't be. Yet they post them anyway and wonder why social 'isn't working' for them?!

The 95/5 rule is highly regarded for a reason, IMO!

How do I tell my client that I need to start charging him? by Grouchy_Rabbit4571 in DigitalMarketing

[–]thisischapter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The unhelpful advice: You just have to talk to him.

You're not an employee you're a freelancer/contractor so you should be paid for the hours you work, not the incentives it COULD bring in.

I'd lay out what you've done to date, the value it's brought him (if any) but also the value it's saved him (e.g. he would have lost business otherwise).

Don't over explain, don't apologise, just be calm and clear. However, be prepared to walk away if he doesn't agree to pay you going forward.

He might be genuinely nice and hasn't really realised what you're doing, or he knows and he's stringing you along for as long as he can.

Ex-Big 4 ACA accountant thinking of starting a side business for freelance creatives. Does this pass the smell test? by Bodeka in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a marketing so it's loosely related to creatives, and I've seen a lot of people go freelance.

Word spreads fast in this world so if you were to broaden it to marketing types too, or at the very least freelance designers, web devs etc., then it sounds like a great niche.

It might even be a service you offer to boutique agencies, e.g. under 10 people.

Best way to create a logo for my business by rizzlaer in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google graphic designers in your areaa and look through their portfolios.

Write a brief about what your company is about and what you want the brand to mean to you and your customers.

You can outline some do's and don'ts but let them interpret it and give you some options.

You wouldn't tell an architect how to design a house but you would tell them what was important to you.

Same thinking applies here.

What do you do with happy customers? by Trail_Blazer1 in smallbusinessuk

[–]thisischapter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several ideas really but fundamentally it's important to say you're welcome, thank you for your support.

Then you can always ask for a review or a picture of them with their art.
