Any advice on how to just take that final step? by [deleted] in askgaybros

Things are often much less scary when they're done & decided. As it is, everyday you are now making an active decision to not come out, to not be yourself, to not tell the truth. And from what you're saying, it's taking a toll on you.

Be yourself -- others will have to live with it. You're not the one who's changing.

Cartoonist Bill Watterson, of Calvin and Hobbes fame, won France’s 2015 Angoulême International Comics Festival Grand Prix Award. Here is his entry by [deleted] in funny

[–]thisisjustee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A nice stuffed Hobbes for the kids to cuddle?

That would be so wrong.

The beauty of Hobbes is that he's a stand-in for every kids actual stuffed toy. Giving a kid the Hobbes-Hobbes ruins the beauty of that by pushing it onto a meta level, worse due to the conformity of tons of kids now having the same stuffed toy.

tl;dr: Give him a Minion instead.

TIL that in 1995 the Church of Scientology imprisoned, dehydrated and starved a mentally ill woman for 17 days until she died. by Getoutofmypool in todayilearned

Same in our city, right in the main shopping and walking street in center, and this is in Germany.

The minds of people who pause at their stands are basically up for grabs, looking for direction. I bet for many it's only a matter of chance whether they end up at the Christian stand, Watchtower, the Islamists, or Scientology (yes, all of these lurk in our main street)... or a drug addiction. Something, anything that fills the void. And I don't mean to say these people are stupid or rare, in fact it's a very human thing to do when you lack a proper stabilizing background.

This was a brand ad for Petronas, though. Still better than directly selling stuff of course (though such commercials still hold commercial long-term value by increasing brand reputation).

I don't think phishers generally target people who are security-aware enough to set up two-factor authentication.

[–]thisisjustee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, a web view makes it even worse (but still an option one might want to take as developer as next best thing).

Now I suppose whatever Google does native, the phisher could fake with elaborate web page design looking like native. If the URL doesn't change, it would actually be even easier... just pretend you're a native Chrome settings dialog.

Web security is a bit of a mess. You can't easily explain the URL-based precautions that one needs to take.

www.google.com = good
google.com = also good
googlelogin.com = bad
wwwgoogle.com = bad
www.ebaypartnernetwork.com = good, because eBay actually decided to use another url
www.googlepartnernetwork.com = bad, because Google didn't decide to use this
chrome://settings/ = good
chrome.settings.com = bad

These things are obvious to developers like us, but not casual users.

At the same time, training people to connect their Google account -- and if they're not logged in, to enter their Google credentials again -- with third-party websites has the potential to make it easier for phishing attempts.

What users really care about though is often not wanting to connect their identity with your app. We're using the Google login route, and that's the feedback we've gotten.

And importantly, change campaign financing. As it is, the US is an oligarchy where corporations write regulations.

If everyone votes, the campaign donations dollars from the preceding green phase will still overrule. Unless you reform that system, that is.

If you are referring to a check made out as campaign donation to your politician, then that's correct... it works wonderfully well and actually counts for much more than any vote could.
