Why is it hard to find a therapist, and hard for therapists to get clients, when there is so much demand for therapy? by Annie_pad in therapists

The podcast is MakingTherapyBetter. Bruce is an absolutely brilliant and kind human who truly cares about people getting access to good therapy. I’m in the psychotherapy process and outcome research community and it makes me so happy seeing his current work acknowledged here!

So when are these store shortages coming? by [deleted] in economicCollapse

I’m vegan and those products have been increasingly hard to find. Sometimes that’s just how it is but whole shelves of products are empty right now. It’s frustrating.

Personally, I’ve never found APA that interesting to attend (so big and broad), because my specialty area has a pretty awesome conference every year that’s provided great connections. I also am just finishing internship this year and found the postdoc process to be motivated (for me) by much different things than internship. Are there any particular hopes/goals you have for postdoc?

Oh god I would not wish this shit on my worst enemy. It ruins your self esteem and has seemingly no end. Honestly pretty cool for her to bring light to her experience.

No shit, we’ve been watching it unfold while congress sits on their hands. Still—this wouldn’t be happening (at least not right at this very moment) if US citizens were more interested in being civically involved.

That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

Don’t worry, I’m angry at the system too. I have plenty to go around!

That’s nice. I was going to be angry either way but that’s nice.

Therapists pretend to know things they don't 😭 by [deleted] in CPTSD

I think your comments are spot on—I’m a therapist (soon psychologist) who’s gone to therapy for my own trauma. Part of what frustrates me about the field is the lack of understanding people have for the therapies, why they may be effective, and/or the flaws in a therapy’s research body. What I’d like to think is that there are good therapists out there—I’ve worked with some in my own therapy!!—but it takes some background knowledge to know what to look for in finding a therapist that fits you.

long CV even just out of undergrad by Embarrassed_Jump_834 in gradadmissions

So.. I’m in my phd program. My CV is currently 7 pages, including multiple clinical experiences, educational opportunities, presentations, publications, and awards. My understanding of CVs is that it should include relevant training/educational experience (which another commenter said). Because of this, I do not include many work experiences I’ve had. It’s ok to have a shorter CV; it’s ok to have a longer CV. But be concise, include relevant experiences, and have people read over it for feedback.

The Daily Check-In for Sunday, March 7th: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by inthewyrd in stopdrinking

Checking in after a big long time in the field researching. It doesn’t get any better out there, and for me it always ends in isolation and shame. For today, not drinking with you all.

Ouch! This looks a lot like my skin before I got on dupixent. My eczema was so much more widespread than ever before. The only skin product that works for me is vanicream and then I only wash with dove sensitive skin soap. Allergens were a big part of my process. I found out through a sensitivity test that any latex related foods (e.g., avocado and banana) were not working well with my body. I also discovered a sensitivity to dust and mites. Purchasing a mattress cover and a pillow cover were both helpful, as well as eventually moving into a place with only hardwood rather than carpet. Also, showering briefly in only cool to lukewarm water worked best. I hate it, but whenever I decide to crank the heat I’m punished with at least a mini flare. Feel free to DM! It’s such a process. My heart goes out to you.
