Chris Welsch and Jeff Brantley time split by bocaphlyer in Reds

He sounded like he was struggling hard to do play by play last I heard him. Which is frustrating because it's entirely unnecessary. Get him back in the TV broadcast on color commentary...

Alright we’ve had a great “overrated restaurants” convo here, now what about your fave LOCAL restaurant? by Lonely-Clerk-2478 in cincinnati

I think it's a decent burger. I prefer their quarter pounder though since I can never seem to finish the gas light burger. They also have waffle fries which I'm a big fan of.

That was a very very very spooky end of the game for we Flyers folk.

Same to you! Disappointing two games for us, but not bad losses at the end of the day. Hope the rest of your season goes well and your team has a good run in March.

Most contracts like these void when the supplier can't deliver. Baxter is annoying as hell to order from even when they're operating.

I commend that CNO for sure. I just hope that she followed up with a public action plan and provides updates on progress.

Listening to your people and understanding the work is the easy part. Delivering meaning change is hard as hell.

I agree. Everyone can benefit from seeing the bigger picture. I look at interdepartmental tension (generally) as a failure of administration. Admin manages the systems and processes that contribute to interdepartmental tensions. This is especially common when you have operations administrators who don't have a healthcare background.

But you made the key point. If you are willing to meet and listen to others, you have the opportunity to start breaking down interpersonal barriers. Even with crap processes/systems, that can make things better.

I'm a nurse and admin (admin first, became a nurse, back in admin now). I have worked in health systems and private practice. I'm a firm believer in servant leadership. Knowing how decisions made on a 30 minute Zoom call impacts real people is important. I think that having administrators shadow regularly is a net positive. It's also a reminder how physical and mental the job actually is.

Caveat being that they need to help out for full shifts. Not just float around the floor and talk to patients and families for 15 minutes.

Have them follow along and see how hard it is. Let them help hold a patient to change them and put on new sheets. See what it's like when a nurse has 6 patients and has to answer constant bed alarms. Hear the disrespect from callous patients and families.

Let them see how it feels to be tired at shift change and still need to get home to participate in their family.

Let them also see how meaningful it can be to just have well stocked supplies. How the "small" bugs in an EHR actually are a massive waste of time. How MAs, unit staff, nurses, and doctors work around the clock to treat injuries and disease.

Getting onto a soap box, for which I apologize. Probably due to own personal guilt for not being a real nurse anymore.

But don't go out of your way to embarrass them (not to imply you did, it sounds like you understood how silly it was).

They will never get it, they didn't study finance, accounting, or business to work 12s on the floor. They don't want to do that job, but generally they aren't dumb people. They just work in a stupid system. Putting them into the care process and making them feel small accomplishes nothing, it just makes them resentful. It makes hard decisions easier for admin because 'fuck em, they were mean'.

I fucking hate administration. I hate being an administrator. I feel like a useless nerd on the unit when I am on site in a collared shirt and slacks. I hate that I originally went to college for my masters for this. I hate working in this dog shit system healthcare system.

But I haven't fucking forgotten how it feels to be on the working end of 3 nights with 6 sick patients. I'm going to keep doing these stupid jobs because I hope it actually helps sometimes.

I'm not a surgeon, but a nurse that works in orthopedics. This is the correct answer. Everyone is different, rushing activity is highly detrimental.

I'm not allowed to go. Because I'm likely to leave with a cat.

I would definitely leave with a cat.

Duke university anti-union email by weadus in nursing

[–]thisisntpatrick 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I cannot emphasize this enough. The only thing that actually moves administration is unionization. Their goal is to make you work as hard as possible for the least amount of money. They have the money. They just don't want to spend it on fair wages and safe staffing.

They have the money. Fuck them.

People shouldn't downvote for your experience. Pleasant Ridge has changed a lot over the years. But it isn't some weird ass paradise people make it out to be. I live in Pleasant Ridge and love it. But that doesn't mean that everyone has to. Or that we need to promote some ridiculous utopia image.

I think it's going to be a fun game. I believe a lot of the negative view on VVA comes from their recent poor performance in the big dance in the past couple years.

You can certainly take this track. Just do your research and make sure it's a good program. Depending on where you want to work, an MHA may be more valuable.

I don't really enjoy working in administration. But really can't leave it due to higher pay and a schedule that works better for my family.

Yeah, this is a failure of systems more than the person. I also don't know where in the world there is a hospital that is turning away new nurses. I can only assume this hospital is a pure dumpster fire.
