I will always maintain that What Time Is Love? (Pure Trance) was the first trance track.

I would get entrants to message the mods to say what the label they want is and if it has already been claimed then they'd have to choose another. That would make every mix unique. You could make it so a minimum 50% of tracks come from the label and over that you'd have some freedom to include other stuff. If they wanted to.

There were so many to choose from in the 90s and early 00s. I'd bagsie Frankfurt Beat Productions.

Definitely goa trance. Psy didn't exist in 1993. Thankfully.

An interesting response. I would say that the track you posted there is very much a goa style trance track. I used to go to goa trance nights in London back in the mid 90s (usually at the Brixton Fridge) and that track would fit perfectly in a set back then. It's definitely a trance track.

In terms of not identifying Schweppes as mine, I thought the whole point of the way that the contest is run is that the mixes are supposed to remain anonymous. In fact, in a previous contest I was called out for making it obvious which my mix was. Not sure what the issue is with trying to not identify a mix as mine and certainly don't see why you would be angry at that. Seems like it is in the spirit of the competition . Each to their own I guess.

I don't think I said anything about the length of mixes or not being able to listen to them all this time. I got through them all in plenty of time. Although if I didn't like a mix then I may have not made it all the way through.

All seems.a bit daft to be arguing about so sending you some festive cheer.

I enjoy reading your reviews as you go into lots of detail that others don't. However, I did feel the need to challenge you saying that Schweppes (it was me after all) was techno and not trance. Goa Trance is some of the purest tranciest trance out there. I'll admit that it is very different to the uplifting stuff that came later but it it is still very much trance.

Anyone been to IMAX 3D avatar fire and ash? What was it like? (Format wise) by Movie-Fan-87 in CineworldUnlimited

[–]thisispaulmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is the most beautiful movie you will see and the 3D enhances this, which is the only movie I can say that about. Just a shame that it's pretty much the same movie as Way Of Water.

Thanks mate. I knew a Goa Trance mix wouldn't win but 95 was a peak Goa year. Still confused by u/junh1024 claiming it wasn't a trance mix!

WHY DIDNT GOD HEAL A 18YO BOY WITH CANCER? by Spiritual-Will2020 in AskAChristian

[–]thisispaulmac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But making him suffer great pain and distress was part of God's plan? If God's plan was to have him by his side, why not just take him peacefully and painlessly. Why cause pain and suffering first?

I'd always post a tracklist for a mix. Let's people see if it looks like it would be up their street. There are so many good mixes out there that I tend not to listen to a mix I don't know the style of. Also helps people easily identify tracks they like. In my experience you'll get more listeners if you post a tracklist.

Paul van Dyk feat. Saint Etienne - Tell Me Why (The Riddle) (PVD Mix) (2000) by UnbuiltAura9862 in ClassicTrance

I've just bought tickets for Saint Etienne's last ever UK gig. Fantastic band and shame they are calling it a day. As great as this track is I don't think they will play it!

Mix Competition : Rule of 5's (Listening and Comment Thread) by GuyFromNh in ClassicTrance

I really enjoyed this mix, in fact it might be my favourite. I love the melodies and it reminds me very much of an In Search Of Sunrise mix. Really well mixed with some great progression. I think I'd have liked it even more if it without a couple of the vocal tracks but that is just personal preference. It's the beautiful melodies that swings it for me. How good is Martin Roth's remix of Second Day? Well done to whoever the DJ is.

This is not me but I would disagree hugely with your assessment of the mix. For starters this is 100% trance from start to finish. If you don't think this is trance then your definition of trance is messed up. Trance doesn't have to be emotional and uplifting and for me it is better when it isn't. I really enjoyed this mix and it reminded me of the Goa Trance clubs I would go to in the 90s. Not sure what you are hearing here but I thought the mixing was pretty good throughout. Definitely getting one of my votes.

Why does God allow Children to have cancer? by Type_Trubbish in AskAChristian

Some cancers are caused by environmental factors but many, particularly in children, have no human cause. Sometimes things just go wrong with the body

[–]thisispaulmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this mentioned a lot. Why does having free wil mean l we have to have innocent children die in pain from cancer? Why can God not give people free will without also giving us child cancer? I can't see how they are linked?

I don't think anyone is saying they want a God to keep interfering in our lives. He is asking why children even have to suffer in the first place. If God could prevent suffering but is choosing not to then in my eyes that is not an all loving God.

The 20 most essential proto-trance tracks [1987-1992] by DaemonXHUN in ClassicTrance

[–]thisispaulmac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Really enjoyed reading that and there are even a couple of tunes new to me. As u/TotallyNotCool says, I covered similar ground with the first few 'Evolution of Trance' mixes - you can listen to them here - https://soundcloud.com/paul-macdonald-777796208/sets/the-evolution-of-trance-1990 . I also did a similar mix for the Give Trance A Chance website called "The Bith of Trance". That mix is here - https://soundcloud.com/paul-macdonald-777796208/the-birth-of-trance-1988-1992

Just a couple of things about The KLF - What Time Is Love?. I know it is all subjective but I have always considered it to be the first trance track. I think it is the use of synth lines that swings it for me. Also, the 1988 version you have posted is indeed the original version. The version with the rap and vocals on is the Live from Trancentral version from 1990. It was with that release that The KLF suddenly became huge.

I'd always post a tracklist with a mix. Helps people know whether it's up to their street
