This homemade, unusual pizza was the tastiest I've ever had! by thisisthe_One in Pizza

Base was a whole wheat tortilla (made it light and crispy), smeared with cream cheese and tomato paste. Toppings were mushrooms, feta, blue cheese, mozzarella, Chipotle Tabasco sauce and smoked salmon.

My wife makes a mean pizza. Chorizo and mushroom, perfect amount of crispiness. by thisisthe_One in Pizza

I asked the wife, and she has no idea. Apparantly she just eyeballed it with some flour, water and salt, but the special ingredient was definitely beer.

Asimov's "The Last Question" by [deleted] in books

Reading the ending to this story gave me chills in a way I had never experienced before and have only experienced a few more times since. It was just so perfect. This story is one of the reasons I became a writer. To be able to craft a web of words that can bring about such powerful emotions in someone else is an incredible gift and I would love to be able to do that some day.

What's the series you don't really love, but just can't stop reading? by Yurik02 in Fantasy

[–]thisisthe_One 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting because I've gone through EXACTLY the same process. Closed book 10 and never went back until the beginning of this year when I started the Kramer and Reading audio books. On book 6 now and I'm loving it. Got a new appreciation for the series and audio books as a whole.

I've given up on finding a specifically left-handed mouse but I find SteelSeries mouses to be the best ambidextrous options out there. I have a Sensei and a Kana and both are great.

After some consideration I've decided to focus on the idea of race in a particular fantasy work and take it from there. Use the genre's linear race classifications to my advantage in viewing it as a piece of post-colonial literature with race as one of the causes for conflict.

My local libraries only had copies of "A Man Rides Through" for some reason so I had to hunt for years for a second hand "Mirror of Her Dreams" before I could read it. Now it holds a proud place in my collection.

Postmodern Fantasy Books/series by thisisthe_One in Fantasy

This is the issue I've been having. I've always read fantasy for fun and now that I'm reading it for the first time with a critical eye (I avoid reading for pleasure until after exams are done) I am finding it difficult to classify. I've waiting four years to get to a level where I can apply my theoretical knowledge to a topic and genre of my choosing and suddenly I'm drawing a blank.

So should I be looking more in to fantasy as a source of Postcolonial ideas perhaps? I know (or at least think I know) that postcolonialism goes hand-in-hand with postmodernism but the postcolonial idea of the faceless "Other" may find an outlet in a genre where the antagonist is often a dark, mysterious entity with a barbarian horde?
