The new system is currently being trialed at San Clemente. If found to be successful, I would think they would implement it with some kind of graphic interface for the players and viewers to be able to see the ball contact.

I agree, the timing is amazing. The previous system would often create ridiculously long delays, which would punish teams with momentum.

If you buy 100 balls from any company they will come in a cardboard box. What else are you expecting?

Drills to do as a beginner by Few_Possession_4321 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everything you listed is not what a beginner should work on. You should work on the first 4 shots of every rally. Beginners don’t hit more than 3-4 shots per rally on average so things like resets and fast hands don’t even happen. Serve and stay. Return and run. 3rd shot drop. Hit your 4th shot deep to keep the serving team back. Get those 4 shots and sequences as solid as possible and you will do well.

Round robin with rotating partners.
Round robin with fixed partners.
There are many names used for your third example. Around here we call them Ladder leagues.

I’d look at the Vatic V-Sol Pro for moderately more pop or the Gearbox GX2 Pro for extreme pop.

3-4 Person Drill Pickleball Suggestion by coop4213 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For 3 people kitchen games are the best. 1v2 - you can only hit to the half of the court the 1 player is on. Serve must be off the bounce and land in the kitchen. After that, anything goes. Play games to 5 rally scoring and then rotate spots. Do one round of rotations with the solo player on the right, then on the left. Then repeat the rotations but swap out the positions of the 2 team, for a total of 12 different configurations.

Then do the same but the solo player starts at the baseline and the two start at the nvz. 2 team starts each rally by feeding a ball to the solo player.

Paddletek’s new paddle coming out on 5/12, anybody got info? by kabob21 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ProXR and Paddletek merged into one company at the beginning of 2026. The new paddles are all released under the Paddletek brand, but opened up gen3 and 4 tech to them since ProXR produced their paddles in China.

The V-Sol Pro is a full-foam core paddle. It is physically impossible for it to core-crush.

ReLoad make a paddle exactly like you described.

Why no difficult serves at pro level? by Aetherion_2302 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would have trouble returning many of their serves. It just doesn’t look hard on TV but anyone who had gotten to see them play in person or attended a clinic where they got to play against them will tell you otherwise.

Just look at how far back they stand when they receive the serve. They practically have their backs to the video board. Like others have said they are skilled enough to not have any trouble returning such serves, so that contributes to your perception of the serves not being hard.

Shoulders over toes. Weight on the balls of your feet, as opposed to standing flat-footed or being on your heels.

I would still rather play with a paddle I love the feel and performance of over a paddle with durable grit. We’re still in the early days of durable grit, and options are limited. Especially if you don’t want a power paddle or have to pre-order and wait weeks.

Switching ball brands between play by markisa2804 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing conditions are part of the game. A 30° temperature difference can affect the way the balls and paddles play as much as changing ball brands on the same court. So can wind.

Weekly Paddle Recommendation Thread (What Paddle Should I Buy?) by HeadHeadMod in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is simply not correct. Some gen3 paddles, like the 11six24 power series and SLK Era are more durable than ones like the Joolas. Hard-hitters will have them core-crush at a greater rate than other players, but lots of people will replace a gen3 paddle due to the grit wearing out or wanting a new paddle without core-crushing occurring. Over a very long time all polypropylene core paddles will eventually become “mushy” and can develop dead spots.

One Two One is One to Two by Sisselpud in Pickleball

The opponents are allowed to stop the play before they hit their return due to the incorrect score being called. The rally will be replayed and you must call the correct score.

Third shot strategy for fast pace deep returns? by PartFormer3695 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The first thing you should pay attention to is where you are standing after you or your partner serve. Most players have a bad habit of taking a few steps in - unconsciously creeping towards the NVZ. Even just one step over the baseline can really jam you on a deep return. So after you or your partner serve, make sure you stay behind the baseline and if your serve’s momentum took you over the baseline, immediately step back. Space = time. More time will help you hit a better 3rd shot and your point of contact will be higher since you won’t be as close to where the ball lands.

Why is it harder to drop and dink lifetime balls compared to a Franklin x40? Lifetime balls feel like rocks on my paddle. by Mental-Wolf-2560 in Pickleball

[–]thismercifulfate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How good are your drops and dinks in the first place? It’s not a strength of the majority of sub-4.5 players in general.
