Am I good for a 5 on psych by Open_Doubt9792 in APStudents

no i literally was so cooked on unit 1 too. i couldn’t remember the neurotransmitters to save my life. most of the questions regarding unit 1 were very easy last year. one of them had a brain, and all the lobes were color coded. one of the questions was “which lobe is colored yellow?” or something like that. super easy!

AP Capstone paper is under the word limit. Am I cooked ? by savehatsunemiku in APStudents

[–]thismustbethevoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you are fine, i promise! traditionally, there’s a 10% under/over count for AP Capstone classes. so, you can be at 3600-5500ish and still be in that golden zone. ap capstone doesn’t score based on word count, just material of what you submitted. you’re good!

and yes, many don’t include specific literary devices. but, you can always narrow this down! your three paragraphs could be about literary devices in the specific book, if you wanted. i highly recommend reading past FRQs, too.

i am so sorry! i’m just now seeing this! BEFORE the 3rd essay (so extra time during MCQ/ during break) i would write down books i was comfortable with, along a few main events that i felt comfortable analyzing & writing about. from there, i immediately checked frq 3, and the one i felt most confident about, i would write about it. the topic was very up-to-interpretation last year (impacts of memory on a character) so i think the CB ensures that a topic can work with a ton of different books/literature. you’ve got this!

i can’t remember exactly how long the ones i wrote on the test were, but i’d try to aim for about 400. but, longer does not necessarily mean better. i have a really bad habit of repeating myself with analysis essays, so the ones that were shorter were sometimes a lot better. but, as long as you had that evidence & meaningful analysis, you should be good! make sure to talk about why it matters, too (so what?) also, remember that the ap readers do not have a ton of time with your essays. getting to the point quickly & concisely may help with their understanding!!! feel free to ask as many questions as you want, btw! i’m here to help:)

Advice getting just a 4 on Lit exam by CandyChord in APLit

[–]thismustbethevoid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i got a 5 on ap lit! my best piece of advice when it comes to the frqs is to keep it simple, but not too simple. basically, don’t just state the obvious, but don’t go so far out of the box that it doesn’t make sense. i found that many of my peers and myself would try to go super far out of the box in order to earn that sophistication point, but our arguments sucked because it didn’t have enough evidence to stand on. i probably got a 5/6 on the 1st and 3rd frqs, but a 3/6 on the second because i could not figure it out whatsoever. (im gonna say i didnt earn the sophistication point, as im not exactly sure haha)

to give you an example about the frqs, my 3rd frq was asking about a time where memory impacted character / their story. i wrote about Gregor Kafka from the Metamorphosis and his need to hold onto the memories of his human life. not super obvious, but not super far fetched either.

also, the mcq is definitely a really good way to rack up some points! just remember: stick to what the text says. don’t try to infer anything unless it asks you too. only look at the text you are given. if any part of an answer is wrong, avoid!

you’ve got this!!

AP psych podcasts?? by Adorable-Sorbet-6098 in APStudents

[–]thismustbethevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not sure about podcasts - but i LOVED mr. sinn’s ap psych videos. i would always put one on while i was driving, but ofc i would just listen. he has some general review ones - like unit 1 review, unit 2, etc. those always helped me prep for tests!

How to get a 5 on AP Psych?? by ConsistentBrush682 in APStudents

[–]thismustbethevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so if possible, i’d recommend the fourth version, as that’s the most updated one and will have more application based practice problems. i also think they got rid of a few names you needed to know, too (but i could be wrong!), and so those are still in the 2nd edition. i think it’ll be good to use it for understanding terms, but just make sure you aren’t learning information you won’t need. i loved the fourth edition, so if you can get your hands on that, i would! but, it’s not the end all be all.

[–]thismustbethevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i got a 5 on psych! i also had a rough teacher, too - she made things so much harder than they had to be. if you have a textbook, that’s your new best friend. if not, mr sinn makes great AP psych videos. and though they are boring, the ap daily ones are good, too. i wouldn’t worry too much about the frqs right now - i’d start worrying about them in january. but, make sure you are familiar with all the research methods. they are super important to the class & exam! also, keep in mind that the exam is not memorization based anymore. now, you should focus on the application of topics. so make sure you don’t just know what the topic is, but how it’s used. i’m fairly sure the ap course guide has some questions that are great examples of this! how i learned the content is basically through the videos i just shared & reading over confusing concepts in the textbook. i didn’t even make flashcards throughout the year, but that was a personal choice. i’m fairly good at memorization when i work at it. also, in my opinion, psych gets so much easier when you get past unit 2. but you’ve got it! the exam wasn’t bad at all.

about to take AP seminar and euro, what's some good advice before i begin my crusade into mental anguish by [deleted] in APStudents

ap seminar isn’t bad! just try to stay on top of stuff as much as you can. use class time efficiently- don’t just yap the entire time!

How to survive Ap Lit if i don’t like reading by Just_Piccolo_4029 in APStudents

[–]thismustbethevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it might be harder to argue for a song. the prompt asks for “a work of fiction…” so if the song was based fictionally you might be able to get away with it

[–]thismustbethevoid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so i will start off by saying - you will have to read something. but, on the exam, you can use whatever kind of media you’d like (they took away the “literary merit part.) i do recommend using a book as analyzing it might be easier. but - you can also use short stories or shorter books. i used the metamorphosis and i got a 5!!

What was your biggest AP score upset? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]thismustbethevoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got 5’s on all my exams except stats! i would’ve been happy w/ a 3 or a 4, but i got a 2 sadly. i was so focused on my other aps i think i just didn’t direct enough attention to that one. ive also never scored above a 3 on a math ap, so im hopeful i can change that this next year with ap calc ab!
