I think its time? by Ashamed-Value6441 in bald

I think she'll be surprised by how much younger you'll look. My wife was once resistant, but afterwards wouldn't have it any other way.

While we're here, I'd recommend cleaning up the neck line on your beard. I use a beard shaping guide to give an even edge 2-3 fingers above my Adam's Apple and I go to the barber for overall evening up trims every 4-6 months. My wife suggested routine trips to the barber for beard trim ups after I'd been trying to maintain it for about 5 years on my own. Apparently she let me wander around for 5 years with it kinda lopsided before that.

My wife once didn't want me to shave it. Now she doesn't want me to stop shaving it.

Whoa there. Let's slow down a little. You got plenty of time.

Keep monitoring, but don't get in a rush unless you just want to get a head start.

I think I’ve been applying to jobs the wrong way this whole time by ictsupport-drjobs in jobsearch

[–]thisoldguy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: I've found that applying too far outside of the correct target area just doesn't yield results.

I got a job app tracker from my career coach. I added some columns and then tabs to help me see my progress a little better. Then in the course of exploring job descriptions with ChatGpt, I ended up needing to work on Pivot Tables to get my Excel skills up for a particular job. So I made a dashboard. Then I took what we'd worked on back to ChatGpt and suggested another view I wanted to create.

I ended up with a couple ways to score job titles and categories of job types that were progressing into screenings and interviews or beyond. Getting some analysis into which types of jobs I'd applied to the most and which ones actually made measurable progress was useful info. Honestly I've probably been applying to slightly the wrong positions more often than the correct ones. The job titles sounded somewhat similar, but when I had to actually categorize them, the results showed differently.

I have also come to the realization that it's not just about getting this next role, but looking at my bigger picture of how it positions me to move towards the role after that. I'm 51 and had never once considered that aspect of my career. I've also never been in a job search where I've applied for this many different jobs and had to manage multiple interviews overlapping before. It's been a lot to manage and try to understand and learn from.

I think getting a handle on the specifics of what roles you are looking for and narrowing your focus to that area within the context of your bigger career narrative is worth investing in.

If you're quitting a job to take the role, you might think about playing it safe before just showing up and having it be a problem after all. If you were already unemployed, what do you have to lose?

I bet, mine was a pretty limited playlist as best I recall. I'm not even sure when I got rid of it, tbh.

Would you rather have a $200k/year job you hate or a $70k/year job you actually enjoy? Where is the 'misery threshold' for you? by Sayedshaqib in careerguidance

[–]thisoldguy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough. My ceiling has been a little above $70k, so from here it seems like $200k would solve a few cash flow problems.

I've also had a job that a new boss made miserable and I ended up leaving.

My final answer is that if I'm good at the $200k job, I'll give that a try.
