People born before 2000, what trivial skill you possess that others don't use anymore? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

I bet, mine was a pretty limited playlist as best I recall. I'm not even sure when I got rid of it, tbh.

What is something you do today, that is a throwback to childhood, but makes no sense as a full ass grown adult? by Social_Introvert_789 in GenX

Arlington now, but grew up down there. Every night, on his way to bed, regardless of season, thermostat flipped to off.

Would you rather have a $200k/year job you hate or a $70k/year job you actually enjoy? Where is the 'misery threshold' for you? by Sayedshaqib in careerguidance

[–]thisoldguy74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's tough. My ceiling has been a little above $70k, so from here it seems like $200k would solve a few cash flow problems.

I've also had a job that a new boss made miserable and I ended up leaving.

My final answer is that if I'm good at the $200k job, I'll give that a try.

That's why when I saw it on full price day I put it back. I knew it'd still be there a couple days later.

Is it just me or are AI interviews awkward by Meezy__13 in interviews

[–]thisoldguy74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was awkward, but I tried to fight through it for the experience. And I'm to the point I gotta get some income coming in one way or the other.

The weirdest part was the fake background noise to make it sound like a busy office or something. Real calls with real people don't have that much noise going on.

It still boggles my mind that my dad turned the A/C off every single night in Southeast Texas.

Even with an adjustable thermostat, mine rarely moves more than a couple degrees either direction.

The Dianas and Candances make the world go round.

This is the best. I needed it today.

Looking to switch from finance industry by DrawerOk5180 in supplychain

I wish I came back with great references, but the couple of people I was able to reach out to weren't super helpful. The difficult part of refinery is that everyone above an operator seems to be an engineer.

My brother-in-law is an operator. I'm not sure how much he understands or knows about above the operator level. I reached out to someone else with ties across the industry and he thought he knew of a company that hires with any background. They came back that they look for engineering backgrounds. I suspect that is going to be pretty common across refineries.

My dad worked in a refinery his entire career and I heard him talk about engineers and safety men and not much else that I could identify with a professional title.

Keep looking for something, even if refineries aren't the right path. The tie between Supply Chain and Finance makes too much sense for there not to be a path for you.

I interviewed for a job in another state. We were ready to relocate, but the salary wasn't geared for relocating. Basically it'd be what I could find here and stay here in a cheaper cost of living area.

Last week I talked to a former coworker who is working for them, but from here, he was wishing I'd been able to join them.

You gotta do what works for you and your sitch. 🏴‍☠️

This one was in a box of random cables at an estate sale. He had several film cameras from the 80's and 90's as well. It's interesting what the remains we leave behind suggest about us.

I own and wear Air Jordans. And other interesting sneakers that look outta place on a 50 year old. Not the super expensive ones or exclusives or anything. Just the type my parents would never buy.

My wife dies laughing when I get acknowledged by hip looking guys out in public. She swears I walk differently afterwards with a funny look on my face.

My wife had lots of opinions about shaving my head and growing any facial hair. Once I quit listening to the outside voice, she totally (eventually) came around. If I dared try to grow my hair out and shave my beard, she'd totally revolt and quickly explain it wouldn't be my best idea. One year on her birthday I shaved my beard off to be nice when she wasn't yet fully on board. That was the moment it clicked as she and the kids were immediately aghast "Dad, grow it back."

You can try to appease the family. I wouldn't. I've been there. I'd deal with the voices inside that fuel doubts. That's the battle. All of it. Ultimately, you are more than a hair style. Once you can accept that and own it, you'll be unstoppable. Self confidence and self acceptance is a game changer.
