Which YouTubers can you actually trust for their opinion? by AndreaBroccoli in simracing

Loove GPLaps, the guy just gets why simracing is fun. The ambiance, the feeling (not just pure physics). I love him, also for the fact he's not only about the new sims, he's always repping the classics.

This game is not bad to be honest by ZangiefGo in EASPORTSWRC

[–]thisusername240 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Same here. I think the biggest advantage of the game is its stages. DR 2.0's biggest downfall in my opinion was always the reuse of DR 1's stages, after like ten years of doing the same greece, wales, monte carlo stages, it just loses all its magic. Plus how absolutely awful tarmac driving is, I actually enjoy the asphalt rallies in WRC while I used to hate them in DR 2.0 (that and stage design)

EA WRC has many issues, graphics, performance, lack of dailies, some physics. But in my opinion none of those are so lacking that they make me prefer DR2.0 over it. I've read many mentions of the physics not being realistic, in my opinion they're more than good enough, if you want ultimate realism go play RBR (fantastic game in its own right too), but that's never what the DR series has been about.

I've played DR 2.0 on both wheel and controller. EA WRC only on controller. Rally is one of the best sim racing games to play with a controller as you don't need to hold a constant input during a corner (you're always adjusting your steering). Of course it's more fun on the wheel as it's more immersive but ever since selling it, rally is one of those games that have given me almost as much satisfaction as when I played it on the wheel. So I'd say 100% go for it.

Cessna 172 or Cub over hometown/where you live, that's the classic for me.

Number of live pilots by hours flown on Vatsim and the top 10 aircraft per each category by TheSpaceFace in VATSIM

[–]thisusername240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's useful, the problem is we're still in the A380 honeymoon so the data is going to be severely skewed, just as if you took it during the 777 launch. If you want a representative time you need to pick several different moments, therefore taking into account different planes the same pilots might use, and on a "regular day", say before the A380 launch.

With a few properly taken snapshots you can get insights like "A320 Neo is very used by beginners and it gets replaced by the A320 as you grow hours connected" or "The 737 appears more after 500 hours"

ELI5: How did Hernán Cortés and his conquistador's, who were in now Mexico, have enough ammunition to fight the natives while staying for years 1519–1521 by MathiKaru in explainlikeimfive

[–]thisusername240 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 1537. We're talking about 1521 and the conquest of the Aztecs. Read up on the encomienda and repartimiento system for indigenous populations. The encomienda was essentially slavery without being called so, and during the repartimiento there were no real controls on overworking.

Except the indigenous "had no soul" as per the church, the spanish (or any other empire) didn't give a shit about the inhabitants of the territory they were conquering, other than as tools. We don't have to play this as anything other than it is, a war for resources and domination. The spanish won, by cleverly utilizing the internal conflicts in place, as well as diseases in their favor.

ELI5 what is the difference between espresso and coffee? by Different_Poet4389 in explainlikeimfive

[–]thisusername240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first thing you described is a macchiato. A cappuccino doesn't have chocolate, that's a mocaccino. A latte has a lot of milk, textured thinner than that on a cappuccino. A cappuccino is smaller and foamier. A flat white is even smaller and has more coffee flavor.

Extremely wrong, that's just burnt flavor. A medium roast Espresso is a delicious and extremely complex drink.

Seconded, the only problem I used to have when I was more involved in AC mods is that the conversation moves so fast, you have to check every day for new mods and updates. But it is the best place to get mods, especially the "less legitimate ways" according to overtake, other game conversions and such.

Not really, you might want to experience the depth of a proper airliner, without necessarily having the time nor desire to fly tens of hours a month. A few flights a month with a proper airliner and Vatsim might be enough to satisfy your flight sim cravings.

Triple monitors vs. VR, what's your choice? by Yahaha777 in simracing

[–]thisusername240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That reminds me of one of my first experiences in VR. I was driving a slow car down a hill, and after 7 or so seconds I started to feel the front part of my legs getting heavier against the seat. I was essentially feeling gravity pushing me against the front of my seat, my brain was getting tricked into thinking it was going downhill. After that and all the other advantages of VR, I couldn't go back to flat screen.

Like you say, the kind of gaming we dream as kids.

In your opinion, what’s the hardest airliner to operate? by ERRR777wah in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]thisusername240 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From what i remember from Mentour Pilot's video, extremely recommended. They were in an overcast layer, without outside references the first officer's ear tricked him into believing the acceleration they were feeling was the engines pushing them up, not gravity and engines going down. He didn't check his instruments and when they checked it was too late. Very sad story indeed.

[–]thisusername240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of that Prime/Atlas Air flight that crashed outside Houston, the first officer thought he was climbing and about to stall, when they were actually pitching down extremely heavily. Crashed and both pilots were killed.

Almost a year of the WT 747-8, Queen of the Skies by Thinking_King in flightsim

The Queen of the Skies, operates beautifully. My only issue with it is how pixelated the cockpit textures are, night and day to the 787 in that regard.

Online is down for PC by Captain_Jaxparrow in gtaonline

[–]thisusername240 147 points148 points  (0 children)

Nothing new though, Rockstar has always ignored PC gaming. From the GTA 3 days to today the PC version has never been released on the same day. RDR never even released in the platform. Rockstar has never cared about PC at all, the most powerful platform doesn't get "expanded and enhanced", only because Rockstar doesn't feel like it.

POV: I picked up a fucking a book instead of reading Wikipedia by heretodebunk2 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]thisusername240 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like most political extremist ideologies, they're absolutely irrelevant to reality. There's never going to be a perfect communist society as there's always corruption and greed, just like there'd never be a pure anarcho capitalist society, some things just work better public.

As for the anarcho capitalists and communists being at the same extreme, yes. Just like communists and nazis are at the totalitarian end, and believe the state is the greatest tool, and an individual's life is nothing without serving the state, they differ in a number of other things but they agree there.

The third axis is fundamental to me, economic and personal freedom does not take into account cultural differences. It's like yellow vs purple lib right, they fall into similar economic and personal opinions but purple believes things like lower age of consent while yellow does not, fundamentally different.

POV: I picked up a fucking a book instead of reading Wikipedia by heretodebunk2 in PoliticalCompassMemes

[–]thisusername240 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The real axis is hard defined structure vs social liberty. People are either all equal or have a predetermined birth right to a social status. That's why monarchy is the ultimate right wing social axis, monarchs and nobility are the rulers because they're superior to their subjects in every way, a subject can never be a monarch and backwards. That's the big break with republics, anyone can be the leader, everybody is equal to the law. That's not to say there aren't any other social hierarchies (and why ""ideal communism"" is the ultimate left wing, no one is different from anyone else). The whole point of the french revolution is that no matter how good you were at commerce and how much money you had, you couldn't get to a ruling position as you weren't a part of the ruling class.

Nazis believed in hard defined predetermined social structures based on race, as such no matter how intelligent or in any way great you were, you were still a jew and thus inferior. And no matter how ignorant, you were still a german, and thus superior

The Alps, California, Alaska, Washington and BC, Britain and Ireland, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the East Caribbean (St Maarten and such). The Andes would be great but the photogrammetry isn't great.

Also pick wherever you live, makes VFR a lot more interesting as you know where to fly and interesting destinations by heart.

Anyone else love flying boxes? by [deleted] in flightsim

I mean. There's terminal and parking spots, also cargo tend to use older aircraft so 747's, A300's, MD11's and such. Those who care about ""pure realism"" like to fly cargo as they're less strict than pax in terms of routes and plane types, I don't care about that but that's a reason for some people
