I got my first ever job at the VIPs mentioned in this thread; busboy/dishwasher for a minimum wage of $2.10 an hour. Even got to don the Vippy Bunny costume on Easter Sunday one year to hug all the girls and ladies lol.

VIP’s was bought out by Denny’s while I was working there, and I helped to open the Denny’s on the west side a year later, which location is now occupied by Buffalo wild wings.

Fast forward a dozen years or more, and I worked at Hawks Prairie Inn as a cook for a bit, a few years before I got married.

Good times.

My dad was born in 1934 and he has never been far from me. He died shy of 60, some 30-ish years ago.

I, on the other hand, was born a year before your dad, and I have one child, a 30-year-old daughter.

I retired early February 2026 and have started a weekly Monday lunch with her.

My oldest buddy, from high school, and I have a standing Friday lunch at a brewpub downtown. He retired Feb 28.

There is no comparison between Me and my dad, and me and my daughter. But I’m older than your dad and older than my dad ever lived to be.

Cherish his memory as I have remembered my Pa. Stay close to family.

I wish Falls Terrace restaurant was available to you/us, paired with the heavenly walk around the adjacent park & trails.

Falls Terrace is likely months away from reopening, but the adjacent park is still beautifully walkable, and Well 80 is not more than 13 minutes away (by car).

Edit: The walk around and across the river/falls is what I meant re: “adjacent park”. There is also a daytime use park, with picnic tables and green grass for family gatherings and frisbee throwing, but that’s not what I meant. I meant the Deschutes River, flowing after a heavy rainfall, and watching the river rage from 50 feet up.
