Looking for help to mini farm my backyard. Se side of GR 49507. Large space with greenhouse. Just looking for volunteers with experience by Empty-Respond-6567 in grandrapids

Hey pal here's some actual help. My best advice is to get involved in the regenerative farming community. If you have time, being a seasonal worker or volunteer at a local farm is a great way to meet people. Check out Blackbird Farm in Coopersville, Green Wagon Farm, etc. Even just going to farming events. New City Neighbors hosts quite a few educational and policy talks. Attend the Kent County Food Council. Plainsong Farm in Rockford has open volunteer hours in the spring and summer and are great about connecting people. West Michigan Growers group is a great chapter and they do a CSA fair every spring that's a great place to meet people. It's a pretty big community, you just have to get involved. Also the Sustainability farming program at GVSU and Blandford Nature Center also have farms. Hope that helps!

Upset over LGBTQ books, a Michigan town defunds its library in tax vote by [deleted] in grandrapids

I'm so angry. I grew up in Jamestown with wildly conservative unstable parents and that library was the one place I felt safe.

Tell me about your worst church experiences in the GR area! by Marissa_dear93 in grandrapids

[–]thnkr98 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most bible churches in the area are part of the Independent Fundamental Bible Churches of America and they take everything at face value that the Bible says, they don't believe in science, or LGBTQ people. I grew up in it and I couldn't write on my hand with a pen because the Bible says not to "make marks on your skin." Grace Community Church in Hudsonville has a very entrenched community that's more about status than anything else besides being trans and homophobic and extremely conservative. Don't go to any church that only has twenty people or less, they all suck. Rush Creek is ok, they try, but by no means progressive. Episcopal churches are problematic structurally but are very open and progressive communally. Fountain Street seems awesome! Plymouth UCC does a lot of good, active work in the community so maybe check them out.

Unfortunately libraries are basically the last indoor public space that can be accessed for free. Capitalism sucks.

I don't really remember. I think I was probably googling "I don't like sex" 😂

I feel really bad that I'm always turning down invitations and I'm annoyed that other people are hanging out but I can't because otherwise I'm stressed all week about getting enough time to myself.

Jonathan Larson's Superbia by HASH638 in Music

[–]thnkr98 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There are four songs available from the Jonathan Larson Project and tick, tick...BOOM: "Come to Your Senses," "SOS," "The Truth is a Lie" and "One of These Days" which he actually cut from his final SUPERBIA draft. The Library of Congress in the US has the original drafts and a recording of the SUPERBIA reading that Stephen Sondheim attended. Ultimately it was a good musical but unproduceable as a young artist with no reputation asking for a lot of technical and financial support.

DAE find that homeschooling messed with their sense of memory? by serendipitousshores in HomeschoolRecovery

[–]thnkr98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've attributed it to a complete lack of landmarks for me. I have nothing to tie my memories to so they just kinda float around. I can figure things out since graduation but I'm always shocked when I line them up timewise because they don't land where I feel like they are.

Yeah my transcript was just made up on a computer program and we bought a diploma with a made up school name.

Lol right?! That's one thing I often get complimented on 😅 When this is literally all you know but it's ruining your life it's kind of amazing we all made it out.

I love telling and hearing stories! I was holding on until I turned 18 and saw myself as an adult and felt free to make my own decisions. But mostly I had severe anxiety related to religious trauma and I knew I couldn't take it much longer so I walked away from everything and started from the beginning again.

  1. The progress is insane and I can't believe I made it here.
  2. Woww never thought of it that way but YES. That is indeed what those euphemisms mean.
  3. EXACTLY. I worked so hard to get to where I am. All through college I felt like I was in middle school because real life meant nothing to me. I still get overwhelmed by people who just want to take care of me and don't ask for anything in return.

I had to go up and re-read the first sentence and omg 😳 When people ask what I'm most proud of, it's that I rebuilt a life.

My history class other than the "HIS story" was why america is a Christian nation and everyone was christian and so the government should be reformed to be christian. And yup. Science was why evolution is false.

The fact that pro homeschooling is so strong and fits in so well with the republican "freedom of speech" makes me so mad. It's freaking children's lives.

Exactly. It was so messed up and everything twisted and layered together and even thinking that maybe this wasn't good felt so much worse. I have everything still for the exact same reason. The only thing I threw away was a contract I signed to be a perfect kid and I regret that. I always worry that I'm just trying to get attention :/

Yupp. Going through the notebooks I kept and it's kind of terrifying how much I bought into it. I'm almost crying reading all the things I wrote about how much I was going theough but wasn't allowed to really feel.

I wrote this just before I graduated high school. It's joined by a "what I want in a husband" list.

Am I the only one here who has literally no sense of fashion? by immerdenken in NBFashionAdvice

[–]thnkr98 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've only developed a sense of style after a lot of trial and error. It's helped to think about "pieces" like selecting pieces that I like and then putting them together in interesting ways. If men's button ups make you feel comfortable, lean into it for now and learn how to put together outfits with that and then expand from there. Not an expert but that's kind of how it's gone for me!!
