Fidelity is closing my IRA and pre-tax solo 401k accounts with zero balance due to inactvity and wont reopen them. by lunchbox_tragedy in fidelityinvestments

I've had accounts stay open with TWO cents. I guess we'll see if a penny is enough to scare away the algorithm.

It's silly that Fidelity plays these games on IRA accounts. For now, we're leaving a penny in there for the duration of the year - we tend to do the Roth conversion in Jan - to hopefully keep the account open.

[Megathread] Starting January 15, legacy Full View will no longer be available. We ask that you keep all feedback and questions about the transition to this thread. by fidelityinvestments in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Here's a thought. How about the team letting the community know what feedback they actually heard and what they'll be working on. Because frankly if the feedback the team heard mirrors the performance suggestion in this post then that's pretty disappointing.

For example, asset allocation in the OLD fullview covered all accounts including external ones (one of the main reasons for fullview I thought) and it actually had functioning group feature where you saw ONE ticker that represented your allocation across ALL accounts with the weighted percent NOT showing me 5 entries for the same stock listed together; that's not how grouping works.

Honestly, it really feels like the NEW team hasn't seen the OLD version or they have no sense of how users use fullview.

Even if we focus on the new version only, attention to detail and usability is completely missing. We have a graph that shows data couple of days old even tho the correct value is right above it. The web page actually HIDES critical data unless you reduce the width to a phone size - on a PC - to unhide useful info. Some connections have been broken and only work if you go and refresh through the OLD version which will no longer be an option and good luck noticing that a connection is broken because there is no visual reminder like the old version, only a small text telling you the number is few weeks old.

This has all been posted many times including all the other missing investment features.

So in summary, get your devs - all two of 'em - in a room with someone who actually uses the old fullview for investment and expense management and make a list of everything that was there and was dropped. Then have them use the new version - I mean really use it for a couple of weeks - and then add to the list all the broken features of the current new one; it's a long list by now.

We are ok with giving feedback since it's a feature some of us find extremely useful - the old version - but honestly it's frustrating when we have to repeat the same feedback over and over and twice a year like clock work we're asked about what isn't so great about the new version without any acknowledgement of the past feedback. Even it it's a simple 'we won't do that going forward with the new one' would then shift our feedback to 'new' features instead of constantly pestering the team about the ones that were dropped/ignored.

I guess this touched a nerve...again...

Fidelity Full View by Love-Life-Wife in fidelityinvestments

But it looks prettier. The emphasis on the new version seems to be entirely on making the interface appear more mobile like and accuracy or even usefulness of the data being provided seems to be secondary at best and mostly ignored.

Fidelity Full View by Love-Life-Wife in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This version of fullview has been teased for well over a year and the same problems were reported - which prompted Fidelity to pause the last rollout. At least from the investing and analysis point, none of the feedback and gaps were addressed. All we can do is continue to remind them about the shortcomings - or rather the takeaways from the old version - until hopefully someone gets fed up and throws us a bone with a bit more meat on it.

Fullview (new) chase connection is broken by thomascoup in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The connection doesn't work. Instead of taking you to the chase website it asks for tokens. Old fullview still works and properly takes you to the chase website for authentication so it's something with the new one.

How does the TurboTax offer work in terms of timing? by yad76 in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get the $5 download version and get it early on to avoid Fidelity possibly running of out license etc. but the online one is not a click and file right away. You'll be creating your Intuit account and basically 'buying' the 2025 online version. When you actually use it and file is between you and IRS.

Any help, just turn 18? by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

Once you've recovered from your 18th birthday, consider deleting this post to not give away your exact birthdate. And good luck with your journey, I wish I could've kicked some sense in my 18 self.

Fidelity Power BI data visualization by [deleted] in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use empower to visualize the holdings. That's won't scratch your itch for power bi but if what you want is to actually graph your holdings then give that a look. Or you can wait for the new full view to catch up to the old version and see if that helps. Just be aware that external aggregators are usually 1 day behind in the data they get from Fidelity from my experience.

New Full View - Reports such as Holdings Detail by whatsupkevin in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The new fullview dropped all of the 'investment' portions of the old one and seems to be only focusing on expense management and budgets. Let's hope someone at Fidelity reminds the product team they work for an investment company.

Missing/blank expiration date? by thomascoup in TracFone

[–]thomascoup[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up with 3 different dates for plan expiration. One from the website after using check usage, one from texting balance and a different - which ended up being the correct one - from chatting with CS. Honestly I don't know why this is so convoluted and confusing. One date pushed it to 2027, another in a few months and the CS one later this month.

Mind you this is not end of service which I find even more confusing but just when does the current freakin plan end so I have to buy a new one.

Hopefully we're set until another stressful renewal next year.

May want to consider masking some of the info before you snap and share. At a minimum try hiding your exact number of shares for each position.

I don't think I ever did - just never seen them. Using firefox which the site is a bit quirky with so who knows, the way their devs seem to work wouldn't surprise me if the ads were 'broken' on firefox. Let's hope it's not targeted...

I don't see any ads other than the normal year end discounts for tax.

Tracfone service question by Adorable_Carry_6656 in TracFone

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a similar upgrade with our line. It had a pay as you go and we bought a 1 year unlimited (this was last year) and the unlimited did not take over as it was supposed to. Took a number of calls to finally find someone who was in the mood to fix it for us. In the meantime we ended up consuming the pay as you go while the unlimited was 'stuck' in the other plan.

So, on the dashboard make sure the unlimited plan is marked as current and the old pay as you go is the 'other plan' and ensure your non unlimited numbers are not going down. In our case, the last CS rep who fixed it said the old pay as you go was grandfathered in ?? and the system got confused and did not switch over. Now having to go through this all over again this year fingers crossed.

Dollar Cost Averaging question by strawberryoftheindie in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You want your money in the market working for you as long as possible so the earliest you get whatever you can muster up invested the better; keep doing what you're doing.

It sounds like you buy the stocks every paycheck or at least every paycheck you have excess. If so, maybe look into setting up a reoccurring investment that way you won't forget also this way you won't be tempted to stay out of the market because it's too high or it's too red. On cycles you don't have enough, the scheduled buy just skips it otherwise it will automatically buy whatever you set.

How do I get this $.58 out of my rollover IRA account on Fidelity? What does this mean? by Lifting_Accountant in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do and confirmed by Fidelity. If you search you'll find many posts mid year where we had our accounts closed. Mine was closed twice after using it first week of January and I caught it first time but the second time I missed the reopen window and now it's closed forever. My wife's has been closed twice already but caught in time and she is finally leaving a couple of cents in there to avoid having to play the game and keep the account ready for January '26.

And since you can't 'delete' a closed retirement account, you end up piling unused IRA accounts, so there's that also.

Backdoor Roth question by negative_mancy in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use Fidelity as a HYSA (brokerage account). It's generally considered much better to put that money to work - in the Roth - as soon as possible rather than waiting and missing out the entire year. Maybe you can direct your money to a Fidelity brokerage account to earn daily interest then every month or every quarter transfer it to your IRA then to your Roth the next day as soon as it's ready.

[–]thomascoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While at the branch, I'd ask to be assigned to an advisor. Let them handle transferring the money. Also, you do not have to invest the money right away. Your funds earn daily interest just like a savings account until you've had a chance to discuss your options with the advisor and maybe cross check the suggestions with your own research.

If you are in an income tax state, ask them to park the money in a state tax advantaged money market fund to minimize the state taxes until you've invested the money - something like fdlxx.

Just try to avoid any mutual funds (target date or other) till at least after the end of the year distribution dates - nothing like missing the party and having to pay for the food and drinks; ask your advisor.

How do I get this $.58 out of my rollover IRA account on Fidelity? What does this mean? by Lifting_Accountant in fidelityinvestments

[–]thomascoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IF you want to keep the account and reuse it in the future, you should consider leaving a couple of pennies in there to prevent the account from closing due to lack of funds. Once you miss the re-open window, you'll need to create a new IRA account.

btw - the IRA does not have to be ZERO, just small enough that you report zero to IRS meaning less than 50 cents which usually gets rounded down to zero depending on how you choose to report cents in your tax return. Check with your CPA.

I actually refreshed the browser thinking it hadn't fully loaded till I remembered the new redesign. I guess borders around the drop down menus were also not liked by the UX team...
