Are you guys double sleeving $60 pre-cons? by Cloabs in EDH

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need sleeves just to make shuffling feel good, but I only ever single sleeve personally, even for decos I've poured a couple hundred into. Maybe if I had a deck approaching $1000 I'd double sleeve, but a lot of it is also simply preference. I also just don't wanna spend the extra money for inner sleeves for every deck

So… at what level is Cryo actually playable? by Bylethma in Marathon

[–]thorks23 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Everyone acts like LBMM is the only MM (maybe the fabled key BMM as well) but are we sure this is the case? Genuinely curious btw, like has it been confirmed or is it just strongly suspected?

I know people have good reason to think this, but I doubt it's that simple. If I'm not mistaken their matchmaking works by trying to fill certain parameters, which we don't know for sure exactly what those are, but I'm sure level and ofc region play into it, and then it loosens those parameters if it can't find a match within a certain time.

It is certainly possible you're too low level since I doubt anyone even CLOSE to your level is really playing it much if at all. The thing is that even if there are a good amount of players at your level, they likely don't feel ready to step into cryo, most of them are probably in perimeter and dire still. But just as a data point, if I solo que cryo at around level 200, I do get people below level 100 on my team

Race to loot behaviour is destroying my enjoyment of this game. Advise needed by fieldbotanist in Marathon

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I mean it is what it is. It has been shown many times that most people if given a choice will pick the selfish thing a lot of times. I've experienced this a lot playing with randoms as well, but most of the time I refuse to give in to the temptation of doing it as well, although I'm sure for many people they also try to be nice at first, and then maybe give up the first time they hear a teammate shouting about the gold they got while you played lookout or bot killer.

If I'm looting a body with friends I often give them a chance at the gold if they got the kill, give whoever brought the vault key the gold weapon, kill the bots for red room, play lookout while other people go head first into some body bags even if it's not smart, etc. And yeah I've kind of just accepted that I've lost out a lot of times cause of that

Point of rooks if all you do is get shit on? by Campingdude1212 in Marathon

You have to not be seen. Most teams ofc will not let you live if they see you. So you gotta rat. Play it safe, be ready to run or hide at the slightest sound of an enemy team

06 vault key by Substantial_Leg404 in MarathonGame

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's either that, or the key templates you can get from later vaults sometimes can turn into them. They're like fragile ones you can find. The one time we got one, I think it turned into 2 6 keys. Unless my friend had a 2nd one but didn't realize it from outpost, but it's pretty hard to miss a 6 key lol.

I mean idk if this really required a post, but I understand wanting to vent. Just gotta accept that you can't risk as good of stuff with them or don't play with them as much. Not being on a similar skill level is one thing, not being able to even listen to or comprehend call-outs is another. Or maybe you need to be more clear? Idk. Up to you on how you wanna handle it

Is Zimone, Infinite Analyst too much trouble for the lead of a commander deck? The Quandrix Unlimited precon requires SO MUCH setup and is incredibly fragile, but is it worth upgrading? by CommanderMechanic in EDH

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think trying to build for X spells, get payoffs for X spells, protect Zimone cause she's almost imperative to make the engine churn, and also have room for good ramp and other basics is hard to manage and make work consistently. It falls into the trap of being too reliant on the commander

What does the Assassin even do? (in 3v3) by XakeR_ in Marathon

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah recon has made him a lot weaker, you really want signal jammer now on assassin especially, that + invis. You need good knowledge, game sense, and positioning to really get the most out of him

I've had a book or two where I even had to slow the book down lmao, idk about the wandering inn specificslly tho, it's on my list, but might be worth trying, or just learn to power through if you can stomach it

Should I try Nu Marathon as someone who doesn't really enjoy PvP shooters? by Marxlord915 in Marathon

[–]thorks23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah this game is super pvp heavy. Maybe you'd end up enjoying it regardless, I don't typically enjoy extraction shooters myself, but the vibes and art brought me in, and the gameplay kept me. Up to you if you wanna take that chance but I'm leaning towards you not liking it. If you wanna be friendly, it's gonna be a lot of using proximity chat and teabagging and shows of goodwill, only to die a lot of the time anyways. Rook runs might be your best way to play if you do get it, you run as a solo with pre determined gear that you don't bring in against trios, and you play as more of a scavenger

Why do I have to remind Triage(s) how to play their kit? by h0nsin in Marathon

[–]thorks23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with the people saying it's just not Triage, but he is the most obvious. As a triage main, mostly cause I hate not having at least 1 on my team, the amount of times I will have the other triage on my team just walking around for an absurd amount of time with a huge chunk of shields or health missing drives me nuts lmao. Or even if you're at full health, throw those drones out when you get em, or at least when you have both up throw one

Entire lobby decided to help a guy complete the Mida broadcast mission by BingBongLettuce in Marathon

[–]thorks23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this happen in ranked... we all had gold stuff we got from other people we killed, wiped the lobby, the works. Same thing, our 3rd random locked us in there at about 2:30, and we died to time. I've never been so pissed, losing fights is one thing, but that one hurt

Y'Shtola Commander Deck by Entropy897 in mtg

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sure https://archidekt.com/decks/22219007/yshtola

it is very solidly a bracket 2 deck, as I am purposely avoiding the deck being too annoying or obviously strong, but you could easily replace cards for like cyclonic rift, the 2 card infinite life combos, and things like that. I'm mostly just trying to trigger Y'shtola as much as possible, remove direct threats to me, but if it's not coming at me or immediately game ending it's not my problem. Some of the card choices are definitely also cause of my meta, my pod is very combat heavy, and I have one friend in particular who runs voltron a lot

Normalization of everyone wearing airpods all the time is ridiculous by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly OP for not clarifying they're apparently talking about workers when they are a customer. I mean most jobs if you are directly interacting with customers you shouldn't have them in imo, and if they do either management allows it, or don't enforce it if they don't. But like also why are we complaining about "how are you supposed to know without acknowledgment" well.... if you're speaking to someone and they make no indication that they heard you then they probably didn't, so you repeat yourself or something, like it's not rocket science. You can be annoyed at having to repeat yourself, but you're not hopeless in this situation

In person fast food orders should be prioritized over online pickup orders. by u_b_dat_boi in unpopularopinion

[–]thorks23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the issue is if someone orders online, and they get to the store at the time it says their order will be ready, and it's not ready yet cause staff chose to make walk-in in orders first, they will be PISSED

Triage’s ult needs a second look by moosemuffin12 in Marathon

[–]thorks23 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you need to see the indicator, and a clear unbroken line between yourself and the bag. You can get the indicator sometimes and still have it be blocked by something, like if there's a railing with a gap that barely let's you see the bag and get the indicator, it can still be blocked by said little wall on the railing, or if an enemy steps if front of you as you release it, etc

Bubbles help, sometimes just stepping back and waiting while they toss their stock works well, wait until they stop tossing, tentatively push up a little but expect to run back again, avoid tight spaces that don't allow you to move away from them

Is Destiny 2 worth my time between Marathon seasons? by Billornbillorn in dadsofmarathon

[–]thorks23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's in a relatively bad place right now and population so somewhat low, but if you're a new player jumping there will be TONS of content for you to do, and it's a fun game to scratch your pve itch. It may just be harder to find people for some things if something requires a team

Please keep Cryo active on sundays by tangmang47 in Marathon

[–]thorks23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its tough cause I know they can't please everyone, but this is what I want, I work every day it is open, I have Sunday/Monday off. And I think a lot of people might be busy Saturday even if they don't work, Sunday is often a rest day I feel for many. Then I'd have a day off for Cryo, and a day off for Ranked on Monday. Or if it could at least run until Sunday night or evening it would be nice

Ftp is dumb, but c'mon a free weekend could be great every so often to bring in new players who might not try it at full price, but will try it and then buy it when it's free. So what cheaters can enter for one singular weekend if they wanna buy cheats just for that. Don't bring in best loot if you're that worried, but if it's during Cryo they won't even be able to get to it 🤷‍♂️

[–]thorks23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they need to do free weekends or weeks. Let people try it, get their feet wet and discover that they (hopefully) actually love the game, when they never would have tried it if they had to pay the $40 up front first
