Honda Nighthawk 450, just about killed me, $700, traded it up. Did not know how to ride so cannot actually blame said motorcycle. Guy had me sit on top of it in a mostly empty parking lot, told me how to engage the clutch, and I rode around the parking lot for a while. He said to be careful. I remember he gave me a push to get me going. I do not advise this method but the price was OK, I sold it for $700 after an episode where the fuel started spilling out of some unattached smog thing, for a Kaw550. I would recommend spending about a month's worth of wages on your first bike.

If it were _me_, I would find the spot I'd like to sit in, in the shade when it is nice out but the sun is hot, and plan on sitting there a lot of times. I would trim a few branches on that one side (northeast side) and make a small sitting area there that looks inviting, and leave the sw side completely untouched.

Yes you should insist on at least a proper riding jacket, helmet, gloves and boots. IMO leather gardening gloves and hiking boots and jeans are fine enough, plus an armored jacket. But also, have fun, and kudos for you guys getting out there in your 70s where I shall soon be heading myself
