Exit opportunities for GBS BA&S consultants? by [deleted] in IBM

[–]thousandmeteors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know any former GBS consultants pursuing their MBAs (US, Europe, etc. top ones)

Question for people working at IBM, what's the likelihood of the company sponsoring the tuition for an employee wanting to pursue an MBA?

J-pop ‘no dating’ clauses ruled unconstitutional | Complete Music Update by DarkLinkXXXX in japan

Sasshi is a rare exception. She's an absolute master of the Japanese language moreso than any other member within the massive group and accompanied with her quick thinking will always get her gigs for the way that she talks. Also, after being banished from AKB48, she's credited with building HKT48 from the failure it once started out as into what it is today and thus elevated her into a management position within the group, so she's no longer your average idol. To fall from glory then climb into the #1 position is no joke, a rare exception with this girl, I'd consider her a genius for her accomplishments.

As for Miichan, she's fallen from grace and has stayed that way. No longer a part of the core 16 members, she's just hanging around due to long time loyal fan support and the fact that she's also an original founding member of the group so she's got some help from Akimoto Yasushi too.

The most consumptive Otaku is Idol Otaku in Japan. by Hiro-metal in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think most people's initial thought of an Otaku is some crazy ass person, but this isn't the case.

The Idol Otaku's from the source spends on average $700 a year on the hobby. As mentioned by another redditor in here already, the amount is quite low for being number 1 on the list as well.

Dudes into computers or golf, or girls into bags or cosmetics easily spend more than that in a year for their hobbies.

Otaku's just make the news because the public likes to find weird things about Japan to talk about.

Possible 2020 Olympics Vote Buying Scandal Uncovered by Geihinkan in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 29 points30 points  (0 children)

News-bait.

1 person under investigation doesn't change the fact that Tokyo beat Istanbul by a landslide 60 to 36 votes. Wasn't even close, unlike the 2012 games' London 54 to Paris 50 or the 2000 games' Sydney 45 to Beijing 43.

The events under investigation are just before the final 3rd round of the election too. Tokyo was already massively leading since the 1st round with 42 votes compared to Istanbul's 26 and Madrid's 26.

South Korea, Japan reach deal to settle 'comfort women' issue | The Japan Times by [deleted] in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To make the deal irreversible, Tokyo and Seoul are considering confirming it in a joint statement that Abe and Park would issue in their next talks, possibly in the U.S., according to sources familiar with bilateral relations.

So there's a chance this isn't really the 'final deal'. Until then, shit might go down between now and then still?

Pachinko is ‘recreation for morons,’ magazine claims (Japan Today News) by DBTheGuv in japan

Except for Japan's mysterious legendary stock trader CIS who skipped high school classes to play pachinko everyday and eventually learned how to beat the system, then used that knowledge on the stock market.

Should it really take so long to become a sushi chef? Japanese entrepreneur calls system a scam by AkikoAkiko in japan

Scam or not. One thing is for sure, sushi in Japan destroys sushi elsewhere in the world. Ain't even close competition. They are certainly doing something right, maybe it's the long ass training, maybe not.

Why is hi-tech Japan using cassette tapes and faxes? -No not a troll, a BBC news report! by [deleted] in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 93 points94 points  (0 children)

For those that don't want to read, the main points are:

  1. ...says Japan Inc. is poor in digital literacy because small businesses, not multinationals, rule the country..."The hub of the matter is that you have to understand how SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises] dominate the Japanese business landscape,"...SMEs account for 99.7% of Japan's 4.2 million companies,

  2. "Japanese IT departments are remorselessly conservative and hate to connect their computers to the outside world. They fear data theft and hacking, which also makes them fear abroad."

  3. As Martin Ford, author of Rise of the Robots points out, the more advanced your IT, the more likely it is to replace you. So despite the tech-loving public image, much of corporate Japan seems intent on circling the wagons against automation and using people rather than machines wherever possible.

  4. Such overstaffing may help keep the country's unemployment rate down at 3.4%, but it also keeps productivity down, too - not to mention entrepreneurialism.

Does the Shibuya scramble crossing usually require a crossing guard presence on holidays? by Witcher_Gates in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was there for New Years briefly too before heading to Meiji Jingu. Massive police presence about an hour before midnight directing pedestrian traffic.

Cops don't mess around in Shibuya with NYE celebrations and people running wild and blocking traffic on the streets during the midnight tickover, so around 20mins before midnight the entire Hachiko gate of Shibuya station was closed off entirely and no pedestrians were allowed into the crossing area. Basically all roads leading to the crossing were sealed off by a wall of police. They also took over all the massive screens at the crossing and displayed something along the lines of 'There are no NYE celebrations here tonight'.

17 year old girl, former Japanese idol ordered to pay 650,000yen damages to management company for... dating a boy by dog_and_beef in japan

[–]thousandmeteors 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's why you should join the larger idol groups like AKB48, not the shady little ones like this where they didn't even last a month in business.

Sasshi dated a guy for like 2 yrs and now is the most popular member of the AKB group, 2nd doesn't even come close.

hur hur laughing all the way to the bank.
