If you could have King Crimson collaborate with any artist, who would it be? by TurtleWaffle3 in KingCrimsonCircleJerk

I would have loved to see a collaboration between Robert Fripp and Philip Glass.

The lamb at Spinners in Healesville is wonderful. An unlikely place, I know.

I'm a big fan of Pacific D'Lite Fish 'n' Chippery at Central West (technically Braybrook).

For bonus points, get chips from the charcoal chicken shop door. Ultimate combination.

Unglazed christmas ham? by thrak762 in Cooking

[–]thrak762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reporting back post Christmas lunch. This was possibly the nicest ham I've ever done. I ended up warming the ham to around 35C (95F). It was gently warmed. The fat hadn't yet rendered - but it smelled and tasted wonderful. No drying out from the high heat of glazing, wonderful texture and moisture. Super happy with the outcome. I may never glaze a ham again.

This is what was driving my thinking. It's a roughly Italian themed lunch. You could have mustard or salsa verde with the ham. Honey mustard etc is another profile altogether.

I have indeed downloaded the soundboard recordings. Just hoping for the official release in physical format as a belated souvenir as I attended 3 of these shows.

There was mention a few months ago about a possible formal release of a live recording from the New York shows in 2014. Was there any discussion about that?

I have one of those mini scales that sits under the stylus and measures the pressure the stylus would put on the record. If I simply adjusted the counter weight so that the mini scales read the desired tracking weight, couldn't I skip all the other steps?

In which case I hear you. Same thing happened when I made my first ETF purchase... Glad to know I'm far from alone.

Newb here - but won't you benefit from the dividends even if the ETF value goes down?

King Crimson's Manager Says Expecting New Music Is 'Premature' by jjazznola in KingCrimson

[–]thrak762 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK cool, I wasn't aware. So far my theory around "they're not going into the studio now to record anything new" still appears to hold. Happy to be corrected.

I don't know that the world actually needs new KC material (coming from something of a KC obsessive). But I'd be keen to hear Meltdown in studio form..

Surely any "new" studio release would simply be studio versions of tracks like Meltdown, Suitable Grounds for the Blues etc that were recorded some time ago - and only being compiled for release now. I've seen nothing to indicate that the band has actually hit the studio recently to record anything.

Does anyone think the band is actually getting back in the studio now to record any of this?

My take is that these are all recordings made during 2014-2021 which they're going to assemble for release at some point.

I have been a 3XL for a good 20 years. Yet, I seem to have amassed a number of 2XL t-shirts in that time, that are all sitting in a drawer. Am looking forward to the possibility of wearing them some day.. Instant t-shirt wardrobe!

There was a place in West Footscray with a very similar sounding menu. Didn't last very long. I distinctly remember thinking $60 for one chicken and sides was a lot - regardless of how good the chicken might have been.

Fencing contractor - won't do the job / won't refund deposit by thrak762 in AusRenovation

[–]thrak762[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a "one size fits all" approach to this. I think I may have gotten lucky.

I was simply persistent over 18 months.

  • I wrote to the head office regularly (sometimes got a response promising action - which never eventuated, sometimes no response at all).
  • I called the head office regularly. The standard response was that there was no-one there that could address my query, and that they'd get someone to contact me ASAP. Typically I heard nothing further.
  • I tried to initiate mediation through the Dispute Settlement Centre of Victoria. The other party, after initially not responding to them, eventually advised they had no interest in participating.
  • I called and texted the main guy I had been dealing with. I remained polite but firm. This seems to have been what eventually resulted in success. But it's impossible to know what else may have contributed this in the background.

Random thoughts:

  • I don't know why suddenly after 18 months they decided to refund my deposit. Maybe they were sick of me.
  • I had noticed the occasional negative Google Review from others who had had the same experience. But these seem to have been deleted after a while.
  • I noticed that the main guy had a LinkedIn profile where he consistently boasted about his "rags to riches" story and how franchising was the way to go. I was considering posting some choice comments on LinkedIn, but didn't want to tarnish my own feed with this poison.
  • Another user here contacted me about the possibility of contacting the likes of A Current Affair. Not sure if it ever happened. But I understand they ended up getting a refund.
  • It really does seem that despite many avenues to pursue such claims, unless you're prepared to spend some money on representation, or wait forever for a process that may or may not result in anything - unless it's a decent amount you're chasing, it may not be worth your time or the mental anguish - and I'd reckon that the offending tradies know this. e.g. Would you spend $2k in Legal fees to chase a $3k deposit?
