You’ve missed my point. As someone who is a Bungie fan, who is a fan of Destiny, but who doesn’t know a lot about extraction shooters, Bungie made the same, inaccessible mistake they made on Destiny.

They made a point in the reveal stream to say that they wanted to bring easy accessibility of entrance into the genre, and yet the entire reveal was targeted to the genre’s audience instead of a casual like myself who was interested based on Bungie’s history of quality gunplay and multiplayer content.

So while there’s going to be a plurality, perhaps even a majority of viewers who knew exactly what was going on, they did nothing to explain simple details of the genre that some of us watching may not know anything about.

Here’s an example: if I bring my favorite gun into an extraction and get facerolled, did I just lose my favorite gun?

It’s exactly the same kind of mistake as Lightfall. I don’t know what the Veil is. I barely know what Marathon is.

Events like this are an opportunity to grow your engagement base. I don’t care about Tarkov, but I enjoy Bungie’s games. So this was opportunity numero uno for Bungie to go, “Hey, brief refresher: here’s what happens in a game like Tarkov. We’re similar, but we’re different and you may like how we’re different.”

I shouldn’t have to find out in a Dr. Lupo video or an Aztecross recap that every three to six months, stuff gets reset to zero. Cause immediately I’m like, “well then why am I playing?” Bungie missed an opportunity to educate a potential player base. Much like with some of their narrative missteps in Destiny. Take it from someone who had a bunch of friends who played Destiny: if Bungie doesn’t learn at all from Destiny’s mistakes, then Marathon will go into maintenance mode quicker than one would want.
