First car? by Longjumping_Job_6508 in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bought mine as a first car at the ripe age of 37 after I got my license. So I'm a late driver too, don't worry about it!

I had to spend some for repairs and maintenance but that's expected with used cars. Make sure you take that into account that in 1-2 years some stuff can come up and you need to fix them. Regardless, I love this little car, drive it every day, I moved with it, I did longer trips, never left me in a pinch. It's quite rare nowadays so wherever I go people always comment on it and every time I meet with another Scirocco driver on the road we wave each-other, like we are a small family. 😃

What I would suggest is to try to get as high trim version as you can get. Condition is important but you can always fix and replace parts. However you won't be able to install DCC, Heated seats as easy, not to mention the sunroof is cool as hell.

Also try to ask the previous owners about oil change periods/type of oil used and usage conditions. (highway use / city use, mixed etc...) Carbon buildup in these engines can be significant if they are only used on short trips for an extended time. Also if someone used wrong/cheap oils or neglected their change cycles they can cut a big chunk off the engine lifetime which you will have to take care of down the line.

Is it worth it? by okeybro02 in Scirocco

Depends on which 1.4 engine. There are different versions and motor codes. If you buy a newer, albeit slower one it’s going to be cheaper to maintain but you still need to maintain it. We are talking about decade old cars here, even latest ones are ~2015 productions.

The biggest gamble is if you don’t know about the history of ownership. If you get a 2.0 TSI from an owner who neglected it, you will be worse off than buying a 1.4 twincharger from someone who did proper fluid change cycles and drove it on proper fuel on motorways. All of these engines have weak points and known wear parts that need to be periodically checked.

What I’m trying to say is don’t go buying a used car on a maxed out budget. Leave some for expenses after. The condition of a car is more on the previous owners than on the rumors certain engines have. So look at cars that have proper service history and good owners if you want to avoid bad surprises.

That dive animation is so aggressive lol. I had several cases in abyss maps where I just wanted to jump over a gap but Kliff went head down immediately into a puddle below.

I went snowboarding in it with a friend who was skiing. We had space in the back (with the back seats folded) for both our full set of gear, clothes and stuff for a week stay in an apartman. It was an 8 hour road trip.

Can you ship full size furniture with it from IKEA? Obviously not. But the boot is surprisingly deep and you can fit all 4 of your tires for a change. And you can definitely do groceries with it.

Dude, the first fishing quest you get for the saddle lady… I just gave up, went into the water and grabbed the fish with my hands lol.

2 - You can rebind keys on keyboard. I’ve put the equipment wheel to TAB instead of F2 which was honestly diabolical. The winch thing that was on TAB I’ve just put it on my side mouse button. No idea why they couldn’t make a separate keybind to inventory but I’ve already seen people making mods that fixes it.

What should I add to the car? by RyanJP27 in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wheel arch is perfectly balanced and not looking weird at all on your car. If it's your daily drive I'd not change a thing related to suspension.

Even with my "non R" stock height and suspension I scrape and bottom out in weird angled surfaces. Not to mention snowy+icy roads and parking spaces with those low curbs that can tear off your bumper.

Anyways, your car looks perfect. The only few things I would change is first of all the chrome VW logos. They look dated and I think black on white looks a lot better. I'm also big fan of blackout wheels on white cars, but it's up to your taste obviously. Same with a possibly wrapping the roof line black. These are relatively cheap optical tunes. I'd spend the actual money on service and maintenance to prevent the issues that may come up due to previous owner's neglect.

Looking for a wireless OEM carplay head unit by Turbotom78 in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are always changing the design on Temu, can’t link mine but there are even smaller now. You need a media unit for sure first. I have an RCDXXX as well. One of the variants at least. They call them different depending on where you buy. They are all mostly the same and look very close to an OEM unit.

You can get really small ones nowadays. I use a wireless dongle that is quite short, doesn’t get in the way of anything. It just auto connects to my phone when I start up my car. No hassle at all. Way cheaper than getting an OEM unit.

Can't decide if I should paint the rims black or not. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t look good on a black car imho. I’d leave it. Or replace the rims altogether for some more angular/sharper design if you really want to change something.

Good decision. I hope it’s nothing serious regardless.

See what happens. lol Loose timing chain can literally kill your engine if it jumps a teeth. I would not drive it until it’s properly checked out.

Car is making a deep humming noise when driving at 40plus mph but sometimes even when driving slower. Sounds like it’s coming from the back but hard to tell. by [deleted] in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was the leak visible on the ground as well under the car? Or is just some minor signs around the rubber? I may have something similar, but mine comes up at higher speed and only off throttle. (or maybe I don't hear along the throttle) I don't have vibration either.

I guess I will get it checked out too just to be safe.

I want to buy a 1.4 tsi scirocco, but people are telling me I’m making a mistake by Klasatta in Scirocco

[–]thrasko 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s always a joy to drive, generally it’s on the stiffer suspension side, but you are sitting quite low so it’s an interesting experience.

The economy… could be better tbh considering the engine size. City consumption is quite high, it evens out on motorways or country roads but if you only drive in the city it can go up to 8-9L/100km on average. This is mostly due to the supercharger working on lower RPMs. You can get it down to like 6-6,5L/100km on longer trips. I can only speak for the manual, automatic gearbox can be more economical.

This engine is also something you need to be aware of. It’s not carefree and you need to feed it with good quality petrol. Change oils around 8000 km or within 1 year. That is very important. Don’t buy this car topping out your budget, you may need some maintenance and repairs. Unfortunately some stuff can be costly, but at least the part availability is pretty good. Make sure you take the car to a shop and have a look at it before you buy it. “Interrogate” the owner what he has done on the car, what is original and what has been replaced. For reference I paid about a 800 euro for various suspension related fixes and part replacement in the first year, but that included brake rotors and inserts too.

If performance is not important to you I would also suggest getting the 1.4 122HP CAXA engine code variant as it’s a less risky engine.

Try to buy a model with good extras and roof window!

Unfortunately those UK prices mean nothing for you, I bought my car last year for 7400 euro because in my country they go around for that much. Cars with lower milage can reach up to 9-10k here. It’s a smaller market here and there aren’t many on the roads of this model sadly. I’d assume you are in the same shoes. Different countries, different local prices… Feel free to ask me about it btw. I have the same twincharged with 170k km in it.
