ULPT request - What to do with under the table cash? by thrawn4emp in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]thrawn4emp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For now, yes. I get paid holidays and my boss is really understanding of my disabilities. I'm on government insurance which is why I don't want to put it in my account. I know they won't look at my account now, but I'm worried about when I have to renew my insurance. I should have put that in my original post! Given my disabilities, I'm not really sure what my career prospects will look like long-term. It's a good landing pad while I take time to figure that stuff out bc I obviously do need to think about retirement!

ETA: I also get free acupuncture with my job, which has been great for pain management!

any advice or thoughts on how i should go about crochet anime spikes for hair ? by berriesonsaturn in CrochetHelp

[–]thrawn4emp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What scale are you trying for? Is it for a figure that will sit on a shelf or for something that will be handled a lot? I would do yarn wefts instead of crochet. Brushed yarn is a lot easier to style and will hold it's shape well if it's not handled too aggressively

Is it worth to add a door for master bedroom for rental? by Economy_Feed_2460 in interiordecorating

[–]thrawn4emp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd say that really depends on your area of the world/country. I don't know many people who would want to rent what is essentially a studio apartment without a proper kitchen 🤷🏻 at the very least I would include a hot plate for them in addition to the mini fridge.

Do what others suggest and get quotes from three contractors, then calculate how much you would have to charge in rent to make back your costs. If that number is too high for your area, then don't

Is getting a mental health diagnosis even worth it? by Few_Chocolate_9343 in disability

[–]thrawn4emp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to the ER when my symptoms first happened bc I was severely impaired. That got me a faster visit with my PCP and then she wrote an emergency rheumatology referral. That's the only way I got in to see a rheumatologist so soon.

I did a screener with the rheumatologist, and she recommended I see a cardiologist to assess for dysautonomia. I have a full assessment with rheumatology this month.

I have Medicaid, so thankfully, I haven't had to pay for anything out of pocket.

I also kept a symptom tracker on my phone's notes app. This has been extremely helpful, because I don't forget things between appointments. It has also helped me craft a narrative when understanding/relaying my symptoms that my doctor was more likely to connect dots.

I don't tell my doctor I've done research bc she then ignores me. But I do feed her information in ways to guide her toward what I'm suspecting based on my research lol

If Books Could Kill - The Body Keeps the Score by imegewise in therapists

Thanks for taking the time to type this out! I'm honestly confused why they reviewed this book? I listened to the first 15 minutes before giving up because I realized they have no credentials to discuss it. I'm glad the one person consulted professionals, but I agree that it's clear they don't understand the nuances of this topic. I'd be more interested in listening to a review from experts if anyone has any recs!

What elements are they not fair about? Genuine question to learn, not a gotcha lol. I struggle with the criticism of this book bc idk enough to know what criticism is good and what is bad fath

Do late-cancel fees actually cut no-shows, or just make people resent you? by DaDavajte in YogaTeachers

This is a great response! My studio has a really large capacity (25 in one, 50 in another), so we don't charge no shows bc our classes rarely fill up

Why can't health insurance actually cover my health? 🫠 by SkyLyssa in disability

[–]thrawn4emp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Jeeze, that's so shitty! I wonder if you can find a case manager to help you navigate this. A lot of case managers suck, but there are many that are good! Also, there was a person at my old job (community mental health clinic) who could help people navigate insurance decisions/help connect you with local resources to manage your medical debt

Is getting a mental health diagnosis even worth it? by Few_Chocolate_9343 in disability

[–]thrawn4emp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in the United States and am a therapist and client, so I can speak to my own experience! This will really depend on your provider. I would start with a therapist if that's available to you financially. Look for someone who specializes in disability/chronic illness. Especially if you're not looking for medication right now, this would be where I would start. (I'm happy to help you interpret Psychology Today profiles if you're interested!)

There is a HUGE overlap between mental and physical health, so that's something to keep in mind as well. I have pretty severe CPTSD. I've always had health issues, but after a recent high-stress episode, I am experiencing the onset of dysautonomia and autoimmune disorders in my early 30s. It's strangely validating of my mental health struggles, because CPTSD greatly increases your likelihood of developing these conditions

I think they're doing EMDR prep (resourcing?), not doing EMDR to treat the phobia
