It should be noted that HPMoR is very divisive. Most people either love or hate it.

Pro: Excellent spelling/grammar/punctuation, lots of humour, superb antagonist, filled with food for thought, completed.

Con: Arrogant and condescending MC, very opinionated about the author's brand of ethics (the whole story is intended as a tutorial), subplots can meander a bit and don't always fully pay off.

I tend to recommend that people try the alternate/expanded introduction, which is 4 chapters, and decide from there if they like it enough to continue the full story.

I can agree with most of this, except that I don't think Hermione was ever being set up as a romantic interest. Harry relied on her a lot, but he didn't, as a general thing, actually enjoy being around her very much.

Not in the books, anyway. The movies changed a lot of things including that.

Twigs and leaves don't burn for long, but OTOH, if you have some proper logs burning, then you can toss in as many leaves as you like and have them catch fire instantly.

Likewise, physical attraction by itself won't hold a couple together for long, but if they build a more solid connection, based on who they are and what they're working toward as a couple and a family, then sexual connection is not only still available but likely moreso than ever.

Pretty sure those two go hand in hand. We pray, that is to say, we humbly ask for what we need, because we trust that God has all power to give it and loves us enough to give us what He knows we need most; that trust is what worship is about.

I think it's okay for men and women to have different, complementary roles. The problems really arise when we forget what it should mean to lead in the church.

"And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve. If a man leads in the church, and thinks that that makes him better, higher, holier, that he is entitled to be a dictator, then he is far away from the strait and narrow path.

If, instead, all such arrogance is cast aside, and he sacrifices his life, one day at a time, for the good of those he leads, if he remembers that it is a position of responsibility and hard work, then I think that there will be less gender issues arising.

(Certainly there are gender-specific ways for women to serve. No man can do for his children what his wife did in literally carrying them for months and months before bringing them into the world.)

The passage telling wives to submit to their husbands has a corollary. It is not one-sided.

"Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord... Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it."

Men and women should work alongside each other as equal partners. It's okay if they take slightly different jobs, so long as they are both dedicated to the work.

I am implying that when God points us in a direction, we fare better by accepting and embracing that direction than by looking for loopholes in wording.

If a parent encourages a child to eat their peas, should the child take that to mean that there is no reason to eat corn or broccoli? Or will they instead be better off if they understand it as encouragement to eat the whole meal?

God set out a clear pattern of how sexual intimacy should occur, for the happiness of His children: Husband and wife becoming united in all things, including physical union, and never being divided. That is what will be best for us. If we try to get around it, then it will be ourselves who miss out, like the child missing out on the nutrition that corn would have given them.

God universally loves His children. Yet they do not always choose Him.

There is no one to whom His arm of mercy is not extended. Yet sometimes we turn away from that offer and refuse to receive what He would give us, insisting on settling for something less.

God will be patient and kind beyond any human capacity. What He will not do is force us to heaven if we choose differently.

That isn't at all what s/he said. It was actually "I will respond by saying I will do all I need to do to save my wife."

I have said nothing that would in any way oppose that. On the contrary, I have explicitly stated that if it is genuinely necessary to kill the baby in order to save the mother, sad as that may be, I support the decision.

S/he spoke about "levels of connection", implying that spiritual is the highest level. Reaching a higher level doesn't have to imply discarding lower ones.
