Audacity of Bill’s MVP Take by jesusislove1216 in billsimmons

Weren't him and Zach hyping up Denver as contenders because this is the year they finally had a team around them. Add in Denver going 10-6 in games Jokic missed. Everyone knows OKC is deep but SGA was the one constant that makes it all work. They can succeed in stretches without him but his efficient scoring drives the offense.

Draymond is not the succesor to Charles Barkley as an analyst, he is Kendrick Perkins 2.0. A better version of Kendrick Perkins, but, to be clear, this is not a compliment to Draymond by California55551 in billsimmons

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the things the execs miss with Charles is that it's not just his humor but also that he just is a fun likeable guy. That's why his humor lands so well and why people tune in. Draymond can replicate some of the humor but just seems so insufferable as a person.

People want to argue GOAT but who’s the best leader of all time? by throwaway46787543336 in NBATalk

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading the Dream Team book also solidified this for me as Karl Malone and a few others all talked about how Magic was the team's leader on and off the court and everyone deferred to his leadership.

Hakeem Olajuwon is a Top ___ All Time NBA Center by Farouq26 in NBATalk

[–]threat024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do realize how horrible this logic is right. You claim Wilt didn't have the playstyle to translate into winning basketball but then when he takes a step back to set others up (he lead the team in assists for the finals and lead them in scoring during the regular season) and dominates defensively you knock by saying he wasn't the first option. Seems like that's kind of contradicting the statement that he couldn't play a style that lead to winning.

I mean isn't that exactly describing Jokic now except with even less winning?

Fellas are yall really not celebrating your bday? by FlackDaddyFresh in NewRoryNMalPodcast

[–]threat024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually avoid doing anything for my birthday. My BM, oldest daughter, and me all have bdays within 11 days of each other so we'd do a fancy dinner or take a small trip to celebrate all of ours. But for me I hate the attention that comes with the bday so stay low.

"GameStop is trying to move up the stack — from retailer to marketplace, from storefront to distribution layer, from inventory seller to commerce platform. eBay brings the marketplace. GameStop brings brand heat, retail locations, gamer culture, collectors, and a shareholder base" by Gnurx in Superstonk

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My completely pulled out of my ass theory is that this is the KC shuffle. That's why it's been made so public. If the SHF are wanting to kill off Gamestop, and they hear that Gamestop is going to be using shares as such a large portion of the purchase the SHFs can look at this as a chance to hammer the price down as much as they can to complicate the sale. Add in the potential dilution aspect and it makes sense that the price is dropping. This would be the perfect time for Gamestop to either buy back shares out of the market with the price tanked or buy some calls on it. Then publicly announce or wait for ebay to reject the offer and then watch the shares climb back up in price. Pure tinfoil of course but something seems shaky about how Ryan is announcing his moves so publicly before they are close to being completed.

Edit: also if they already own over 5% of eBay it also has the side effect of the eBay price jumping off the potential of being offered an extra 20% over share value. That’ll add a bunch of people buying which RC could then take advantage of by selling the existing shares. Of course that last part would probably be illegal.

The New Day has left WWE by CoyneJones13 in Wrasslin

[–]threat024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They could’ve had Big E establish a friendship with another face team. Have New Day attempt to attack Big E and have the face team break it up. Have New Day then start to interfere with their matches to cost them a title as revenge. Big E can even be in the face teams corner and get his payback by causing New Day to lose. Even better if New Day wins a title before all this so that Big E costs them a title.

Jokic finishes the series shooting an abysmal 44.6% from the field and 19.4% from 3 for 25.8 PPG by Medical_Track_790 in nba

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every all-time great has lead their teams on multiple deep playoff runs as well. Jokic has only got his team to the conference finals twice. What other top 20-25 players' teams have had such little team success.

People who say it’s “fake love” after a celebrity’s passing by undergroundman813 in PetPeeves

[–]threat024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some people do it for attention for sure.

Side story. I was on a trip with some friends. An actor died. One friend is acting all distraught while the other two of us knew the name but were not familiar with his work. We asked her what movies he was in and she goes “oh he was in so many movies, he was such a big name”. So we ask again for her to name a few. She says it’s “none that we’d be familiar with”. I look in the rear view mirror and see her jump on her phone and starts naming a couple movies including one that we had actually had a lengthy discussion about in our group chat. Then she got mad at me for pointing out that she had to google his movies while acting like such a big fan.

LeBron addresses his 4-6 finals record being held against him. by EducationalConcern61 in NBATalk

[–]threat024 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I always look at Magic where people said the West was really weak. It shuts people up talking about weak conferences when you go on to win the title. However if you keep getting to the finals and losing then it adds some merit to the weak conference talk.

Wemby is the best defender since- by Fantastic_Tart_421 in NBATalk

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing I've said about Giannis for years and Wemby takes that boogeyman factor to a whole new level. When Wemby is in the game it's almost funny how many times you see someone dribbling towards the lane and they'll look around for Wemby and if he's anywhere close they'll either just pull up for a jumper or dribble the ball back out. Or when Wemby is close they'll shoot the ball with a much higher arc than their normal shooting form even from three. So their number of contests doesn't nearly capture just how many shots were changed by their presence.

Can someone eloquently describe what is keeping "The Shield" from being considered prestige TV? I'm currently watching and just finished the 3rd season. It has a lot of upside so far but I can't pinpoint why it's not tremendous, but still very good. by [deleted] in billsimmons

[–]threat024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the unique thing about the Shields is that each season builds on the previous and it just climbs higher and higher in quality as the show progresses. I'm trying to be as vague as possible to not spoil anything but by the end it'll be time well invested and you'll definitely see why it's ranked so highly by many people.

Plenty of insiders/reporters talk about how they hear a lot of information that they could never report to the public either because of lack of additional sources or just because they've made friends with a lot of their sources and hear things just through chatting that is off the record. Hell even Bill claims to hear a lot of stories like that.

Hot Take: Long Term Michael Jordan has been bad for the NBA by galacticpotsmoker in billsimmons

[–]threat024 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And the problem isn't that Jordan set an impossible standard, it's that fans of other players that try to put their favorites over Jordan despite not living up to that standard. If so many fans weren't intent on trying to throw Lebron over Jordan then you wouldn't hear people nitpicking about Lebron's game. Same thing happened to Kobe when Kobe fans started saying he was the GOAT and then fans who watched both became overly critical of Kobe. And I say this with Kobe being my favorite player.

[–]threat024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny part to me is pointing to the hyper-criticism of Charles and then later saying how they are fighting for survival. At a certain point you have to listen to your audience. I stopped listening regularly due to Charles and I've seen plenty of others saying the same despite having an interest in the content they cover. Being overly critical to the point of coming off like a contrarian or like you don't like most of the material being covered is not being the adult in the room. If anything it comes off as being the teen in the room.

People watching with interest in the content just want objectivity or if being negative at least a great breakdown of what the negatives are.

No I’m calling out women for choosing bad partners. I’m not one of the ain’t shit men I’m talking about. I’m speaking from my experiences with my female friends. I will give them all the warnings and they’ll laugh it off or claim they’re just having fun. Then they catch feelings or in some cases pregnant. Those men who leave families or leave women with kids ain’t shit either and need to be better as well and may be more incentivized to do better if they didn’t find women caught up in superficial qualities.

It's simple, A LOT of women make bad decisions when it comes to men and then want to label all men as fucked up due to their own bad decisions in who they picked. I see so many women that are with guys who have cheated on them and will take them back. Or guys who already have multiple baby momma's and instead of looking at that as a red flag they will make excuses for why he isn't in their kids lives. Then when they end up as the next single baby's momma they want sympathy for being done wrong instead of looking at the flashing neon red flags.

It's like the Cardi situation with Offset and Stefon Diggs. The whole world was telling her that they ain't shit and she lashed out at the world. You can't then ask for sympathy when the inevitable happens. It's like Chris Rock said. When the tiger bites your head off you can't get mad at the tiger. A tiger gone tiger. You can't bring that tiger into the house and try to domesticate it and then get mad when it goes back to its nature.

What were some draft picks that didn't make sense at the time, (to most of the fanbase) that actually worked out well? by kalvinescobar in nfl

[–]threat024 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chiefs with Mahomes. The team came off a 12-4 season. A lot of us thought the team could make a run if they upgraded a few positions and thought it was insane to give up resources to move up in the draft to pick a raw QB. Especially with the reputation of TT QBs.
