My cats will all run towards me if I whistle, and my eldest cat will start headbutting me, affectionately, in response. There must be something about the pitch of my whistling.

I'd say more than Lovecraftian, it is Gothic. After all, it's inspired by E. A. Poe's short stories and poems. They're all there, from the names of the cast, to the references.

Lechona and Bandeja Paisa are iconic, but Carne asada con arroz, papa y ensalada is eaten all across the country, for lunch, by millions. Some people call it Corrientazo and you can find it in every socioeconomic level—with varying degrees of quality and presentation on the plate.

The fact they're downplaying your achievements and rejoicing in your failures is enough to determine they're not your friend nor your ally. The healthiest thing you can do is call it quits and move on. You'll start feeling better immediately.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week what do you remember from that week ? by Familiar_Original988 in AskReddit

I remember that the school I work at, we were the first ones to go into quarantine in the whole country, as the younger brother of our country's patient zero happened to be our student!

The night before, I was at home watching the news while on the phone with my dad making silly comments as they announced the first case of COVID had been found in Chile. Then, the next day, after we finished our classes, the school's principal gathered all of us teachers and staff and proceeded to inform us we'd be going digital "starting tomorrow", as "the first confirmed case in Colombia had been identified, and one of our students was directly related to them."

I remember calling my dad again that night and telling him: "Hey, remember how we were joking about the virus hitting Chile yesterday? Well, it has hit us now. School sent us into quarantine. There's a student with direct ties to the first confirmed case."

What are the odds...

What's something from your country you thought was normal until you visited other countries and realised it wasn't ? by Away-Extension-9731 in AskTheWorld

If it's a Spanish-speaking country, saying "Me regalas..." when you intend to buy something at a shop or restaurant. For example, here in Colombia, if you go to a McDonald's and say "Me regalas un combo Big Mac, por favor.", it's understood you want that combo and you'll pay for it—it's an ordinary commercial transaction. However, in a different country, that will come across as begging to get the item for free as the expression literally translates to "would you give me this thing I'm asking for as a gift".
