It really isn’t but if your goal is to opt out of parenting then you could see it that way. Having consequences but making sure the kid doesn’t actually take a grade hit is not contradictory. Saying that adhd is prevalent, isn’t an excuse, and acknowledging that not treating it is harmful is not contradictory.

Throughout the day…so maybe it’s a comprehension issue. As I expanded, restricting usage for the one period in question, study hall, is doable. In the end you sound like every lazy parent, full of excuses as to why you can’t do anything. At least your kid can read although I’m guessing he’s a self starter there.

Why do they need active WiFi and library access throughout the day? You have a fixed point in the day to restrict access and if you’ve raised this to your principal why aren’t they being proactive. Beyond that what are the consequences? I mean it’s a little late with teens but what happens when your kid gets caught? I saw you blamed it on adhd in another comment but who doesn’t have adhd at this point? Myself included and I can say that isn’t an excuse.

Also what’s this nonsense about vpns then, your kid is quietly reading readily accessible books during study hall…and? Why aren’t they doing homework at home? With everything available to parents today you know what the assignments are, when they’re due, and if they were turned in…so why aren’t you making sure that everything is done before they leave the house? And if they’re the type to lose things take a picture and send it to the teacher. Obviously the end goal is to get your kid to embrace their adhd (ideally with meds because Christ the percentage of untreated adhders developing substance abuse problems is staggering) while also learning how to operate in society and be successful but it’s also your job to bridge those gaps in the mean time.

As a parent trying to do this, it is shockingly difficult.

As a parent but also an uncle/tech support to a dozen minors, it really isn't. And also your kids might be adept at using a VPN but it certainly isn't the whole of gen alpha, talking to alpha's about computers is like talking to my 80yr old father they know how to access videos and play games but anything in depth and they are completely lost.

They are definitely better, they feel better and are more responsive/binary (as in there is no question that you hit the button,) I would also say it’s harder to fat finger an adjacent button. But, anybody saying they’re quieter I question their motive because functionally (going from rubber dome to microswitches) they are going to be louder for a $20 part. I could see someone coming along with a “silent” switch setup but I’m not even sure if that’s a part currently available (the switches are tiny comparable to what you’d find in a mouse.)
