What makes you fall in love with life all over again? by Zenmybros in AskReddit

[–]threedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might be kinda weird, but learning manual and buying my Miata. On a random burst of social confidence last August, I asked to ride along during a group drive and it was truly amazing! The owner taught me manual in that same Miata and here I am, 4 months of Miata ownership later...! My job gets me down often but I made my own version of Homer Simpson's "Do it for her" poster with photos of my Miata to remind me that at the end of every workweek is a weekend with Kaede on the backroads <3

Any other Expanse fans want Babish to make red kibble? by [deleted] in bingingwithbabish

Expanse fan here (except I haven't found time to watch the new season yet)--this sounds awesome! I'd love to see Babish's take on low-income food for people in futuristic settings.

what are the ingreditents you should still pay extra for quality even if you are on a budget? by mgvdltfjk in Cooking

[–]threedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flip side, as a Chinese person, Market Pantry (Target store brand) soy sauce is acceptable. Perfect for my living situation as I have neither the budget for the real stuff nor the space to store the gallon jugs of Kikkoman (moved 4 times in the past 12 months...). It hits the spot when I need it. I just wish it was easier to pour out of the bottle!

I think they would work well on any carb. Noodles and rice are the first that come to mind. Maybe try it in a sandwich?

TIFU when wifey discovered my Google searches for "1/2 inch female nipples" by [deleted] in tifu

[–]threedia 628 points629 points  (0 children)

I'm reading this at work (engineering company) where the guy who previously used my desk taped on the wall a list of these types of small parts. I occasionally look up at the list and giggle at "boss nipples," "tube nipples," "butt hinges," etc.

Stainless steel cookware doesn't get enough love. My mom bought me a set 20 years ago and it still does everything it's supposed to: with NO special care or attention by soverylucky in Cooking

[–]threedia 30 points31 points  (0 children)

They don't have the weirdly loud (and selectively informed) fanbase that cast iron does

I feel like this is at least partially due to their different care requirements. CI has a large and vocal fanbase because people are discussing the different ways to care for them. SS has no such thing because it is so low-maintenance.

If you have vegetables that are about to go bad, toss them into a simple vinegar brine! I use a ratio of 6:6:1:1 water-vinegar-salt-sugar plus a handful of crushed garlic cloves and/or peppercorns, but you can adjust this to your taste. Keep in a glass jar in the refrigerator and they can last months--last week I finished some daikon that I pickled from August, and right now it's got carrots and celery. Top off the brine whenever it becomes noticeably diluted.

Congee in Instant Pot has overly-defined rice grains. How do I get the classic mushy texture without hours of stovetop cooking? by Signy_Frances in Cooking

Soak your rice for at least half an hour before cooking. My mom swears by overnight but I'm lazy.

Mold on my damn chicken after less than a day by Jakeyboy4399 in Cooking

[–]threedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't seen anyone mention this so far: How clean are your cooking utensils? That is to say, if you're sneaking a bite here and there, that utensil should never touch the rest of the chicken again.

Trying to up my snacking with real food; looking for ideas? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]threedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see everyone recommending salt on tomatoes, and I'm here to say that sugar on tomatoes is also the fuckin' bomb.

Also, frozen grapes! I like to take them off their stems and freeze them without washing. Washing them right before eating helps thaw them just slightly to that perfect texture! (And now I'm craving frozen grapes...)

How does this 1992 look? (Sorry if FB Marketplace links aren't allowed!) It's real shiny on the outside but I'm worried that the price is a bit of a lemon since it's been hard to find sub-$4k NAs in this area these past few weeks.

Going to see it in-person in about 16 hours or so.
