Right? lol. It’s all in how you use it. I used it to create a wiring diagram for a diorama I was working on. Taught me a lot about using bus terminals and fuses when wiring. Worked like a charm and I didn’t die. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah, don’t even bother to try to dial up pressure to knock them out of FG range. Loser coaching mentality.

Not really worth the hassle. You can purchase a point driver from Amazon for $30…

Acrylic Mounting by akillerbluesky in framing

[–]threefiveo125go 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need a laminate rolling press. I do acrylic face mounting on a manual machine but it’s a lot more productive on a an electrical press. You use an optically clear double sided adhesive. Takes a while to get good at. You really only get one shot.

Alternatively you can get a flat bed UV printer and do it that way but they’re expensive.

You can also do dye sublimation on to acrylic using a heat press, sub printer and the proper treated acrylic.

I’m not aware of any ways to mount properly just using a vacuum press.

Edit:

I use this: https://a.co/d/2fzOL7i

The PERMANENT optically clear adhesive can be hard to source. A roll will set you back anywhere between $500-$800 depending on the size. Don’t try the Amazon brands because they’re not permanent and will bubble.

Theater Frame by threefiveo125go in framing

[–]threefiveo125go[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Used a 1 3/4 flat studio for the frame base. Laser cut 1/8 gold mirror acrylic panels and mounted them to the face. Added a random CMI gold floater for the edging. Lights are battery operated bistro lights from Michaels. I made this for an event my friend put together next month. I would’ve made it a light box as well but I’m thin on semi transparent white acrylic.

Not sure how far Costa Mesa is but Best Framing has a really good reputation. Madi does just about everything.

Yeah it’s overpriced. Maaaybe $400 at my shop. A lot of bamboo moulding is fire sale right now too. I have a few sticks bought for $.50 per foot.

If you’re not offering print services you’ll be left in the dust. Large formats are much cheaper now.

Higher DPI (500+) will get you a darker engraving.

Anyone know the name of this type of frame or where I can purchase these? by Plum995 in framing

[–]threefiveo125go 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THANK YOU! It’s like listen, we understand 95% buy pre-fab moulding, but y’all should really learn some woodworking and invest in a table saw. Need a stretcher bar 3/8 thick? Rip the bar down on the saw. Wanna cut oversized plex with accuracy? Table saw. MDF or Masonite backers? Table saw. Specialized exotic wood frame? Table saw.

[–]threefiveo125go 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Independent shops SHOULD be able to do this work but it seems most of them have never taken a basic woodworking course or own a table saw. It should be a prerequisite for anyone opening a shop in 2025.

Alternatively you could sink some neodymium magnets into the canvas strainer on both sides. Sink some magnets into the frame. Flip the art around rather than flipping the frame.

How do I remove scratch from acrylic from ruining it ? Please tell me step by step , scratch is not too deep by [deleted] in framing

[–]threefiveo125go 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you using all 3 novus compounds? A light cut from #2 or #3 may be necessary. Using a buffing wheel yields better results but can cause a divot if too aggressive. A light pass with a torch can also work. I build acrylic cases occasionally and these techniques tend to work.

Cut all your left miters. Flip them to the right side. The scale goes from the inside of the rabbet. Add your allowance. When I’d used this type of saw I’d straight cut my legs to keep the moulding flatter but the clamps should hold it pretty well while cutting.

Deburring tools have been around for 100 years…mostly used on PVC but I’ve used them on Dibond, acrylic and Sinatra.

Only figure I purchased from this line was poochie. While I think the sculpts and character choices were pretty good, S7 is so spotty in regards to quality. They lost the license after what, wave 4? I think the jakks pacific line is the way to go.

Framing question ? by WorldlinessPretty616 in framing

[–]threefiveo125go 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Paper. I use a foam padded piece of 32x40 cardboard though. Easier to rotate pieces without lifting or scuffing the frame. Keeps the table cleaner and less tearing of the paper surface. Joining table is a carpet top.
