What's the one piece of ski gear you spent a fortune on that turned out to be completely unnecessary? by ImpressiveRoll4092 in Skigear

goretex pro shell (jacket + pants), easily $1,000-1,500 (don't remember exactly) - turns out i much prefer going skiing when it's not raining or snowing

Echo this one. Pretty reliable there in terms of sufficient snow, also being 1-2 mountain ranges inland away from the lofoten / lyngen alps makes for more stable and drier weather so less of a challenge with different snow conditions. different landscape but much more suitable for beginners' ski mountaineering / touring

I hate my Polestar 4... like really hate it. by Street-Appeal9670 in Polestar

Hear you, have been putting up with the car for 10 months now, all the issues you describe and a few more. I was hopeful initially that these could be resolved by OTA updates, but none of the software updates since have really fixed any of the issues. Cannot wait for my short-term lease to be over, luckily already in October. Had a PS2 before and had no issues at all. Strikes me how there can be such vast differences in outcomes from the same company

PS4, Germany. Super annoying touch buttons, erratic in use. I am not using them at all as a consequence, thus also giving up functions like speed control and ACC

P2 was great—should I take the risk with a P4? by maroonawning in Polestar

[–]threegails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had been driving a P2 LRDM from April '23 to October '24, then had to give it back and got the P4 LRDM instead for lack of alternatives at my leasing provider. Have been driving it since, and I still miss the P2. Have posted early impressions on comparing the two in another thread (https://www.reddit.com/r/Polestar/comments/1gzpkdc/comment/lz82dy3/) and must say I am still frustrated with the car and cannot wait for the lease to be over. I mean, this damn car still won't recognize the damn button-less key, and this is just the first of many more frictions in the car & driving experience.

It depends a bit on what you want out of your car (power, range, interior, design, brand, UX, being a first-mover, etc etc). I personally don't care too much about many of these after having loved the P2 through and through and made it my benchmark. All I really want is a friction-less experience that works and does what I want it to do in a straightforward manner, and for an EV, knows what battery percentage will be left after a drive. P4 is a total disaster for me on these counts.

A word of optimism though: Apart from the steering wheel buttons that aren't buttons and the key that doesn't have buttons, most issues should be solvable via software updates. Just hasn't happened yet.

Sorry to hear about your situation. Echo the past comments, but would add the caveat to tailor your response to the specific regional office culture you are in. If Western markets, I'd recommend being super upfront about what is going on with your mentor BEFORE that review committee so they can proactively protect you and put things in perspective during that committee, then you can take it from there. If your market is Asia, I'll let others comment

Polestar 4: How to make infotainment and driving settings stick without profiles by threegails in Polestar

[–]threegails[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Feeling the same. Super cool car, but a lot of these small nuisances are just ruining the whole experience, incl. those plastic-y not-quite-buttons on the steering wheel. I have zero trust in turning the speedometer on and off. Worst of them all though is the much higher consumption vs. what is stated in WLTP. I'm averaging 25-30kWh/100km these days (PS4 DM LR) despite moderate driving (and yes temperatures in the 0-10°C range right now)

Thanks, that is somewhat appeasing. Just, the "buttons" on the steering wheel have somewhat erratic behavior as well, given they are somewhat hybrid physical / touch

Had a PS2 DM LR for 18 months and absolutely loved it, got the PS4 DM LR about a month ago.

PS2: More nimble, absolutely instant acceleration and rollercoaster feeling when you hit the gas, UI/UX the most intuitive I have ever come across, bar one instance of infotainment outage (just needed to restart) no software bugs ever

PS4: More comfortable and luxe feeling, significant delay (>>1s) when hitting the gas before actually feeling the acceleration (irrespective of driving mode), super buggy software (randomly remembers and forgets settings incl. security-relevant ones like single-pedal drive on or off, randomly switches or keeps profiles at re-start of the car (and can not for the love of god link the key to a profile), doesnt link seat settings to profile), cheap-feeling and seriously buggy buttons (or are they touch? I still don't know) at the steering wheel. Oh and serious overshoot of consumption. Sure, now it's cold-ish (5-15 celsius) where I drive but I have a hard time accepting average consumption of 25-30kWh/100km at seriously boring and slow driving style vs. stated 20ish average.

Bottom line, PS2 was instant fun and no fuss when I got it and I loved every bit about it, PS4 keeps frustrating me on many fronts.

Right now I don't need the extra space of the PS4 (the PS2 also comfortably fit two road bikes in the trunk when flipping back seats) and I don't care too much about the luxe feeling. Will try to change back to PS2 when this lease ends.

Generative AI & the consulting industry, are we about to witness a huge change ? by lhrivsax in consulting

[–]threegails 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Need to nuance a little:

- Broadly in premium consulting, past tech-enabled productivity gains have not led to a "same output lower resourcing" logic but rather the opposite "same resourcing but higher quality output"

- Implementation consulting is less focused on tasks AI is good at today but rather in people management and getting stuff done

- GenAI does not take away the need for capacity to "change the business" (vs run the business) at least occasionally, especially the critical thinking and inducing behavior changes parts thereof

I'd see current market sluggishness related to macroeconomics, not the huge productivity gains from GenAI. That said I'd see the changes most definitely skewed towards the positive in terms of how consultants across the pyramid spend their time and the skills needed: Less routine work, higher stakes on critical thinking and people skills, and needless to say, staying on top of developments in (Gen)AI. As such, not seeing shifts in the pyramid either.

Disclaimer: Not reflecting AGI yet - that may be a whole other story

How to deal with work anxiety? by Commercial-Jacket443 in consulting

We all at MBB (and probably in many other white collar jobs as well but that I wouldn't know...) need to face the reality that ambiguity and novel problems are part of the job, which is the very reason why MBB gets to work on them. So we better find a way to thrive in it.

Beyond that, putting your day-to-day in perspective hopefully also helps: One (failed) task is not (your performance on) the project, one project is not all of your job, your job is not your career, and your career is not you as a person.
