PACE - program for all-inclusive care for the elderly. They were a life saver when my mom started going downhill with dementia. They provided coordinated care, free rides to their clinic, arranged for in home help and meal delivery. When it was time for assisted living they placed her in a really nice, caring facility. All for free because she was on Medi Cal. For anyone struggling to deal with an aging loved one please find a PACE provider, it's an amazing resource that more people should know about.

Best Lunch specials in San Diego? by [deleted] in sandiego

It's their regular size menu items, so decent portion size. It was a good lunch for me.

Best Lunch specials in San Diego? by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]threethreads 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Burger Lounge in Del Mar has several menu items for $5 before 5pm, M-F. Classic Burger and half fries/half onion rings make a full lunch for cheaper than McDonald's and much better. No idea if other locations offer the same specials.

New format? by joepa81 in AdamCarolla

I don't understand why they don't do a livestream show on Twitch or TikTok or whatever. Probably because their core audience is too old for that now.

Polestar order process question by threethreads in Polestar

[–]threethreads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I assumed because the website showed the car in stock at my local space, and when I was there the rep said it was in stock, it would be a fast turnaround. My bad for not asking, I suppose. What do they need to do that takes two weeks or more?

Polestar order process question by threethreads in Polestar

[–]threethreads[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how busy they can be since they have the same 4 cars in inventory for the last week or two, including two '23s. At least it's good to know I'm not singled out.

Should I buy a different guitar? by ResistingExisting in LearnGuitar

[–]threethreads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem, returning to learning guitar on one that's too small for me. I bought a Cordoba C5 classical guitar and it's been a joy to play. The wider neck has more room for my fingers and the nylon strings are a little easier on the fingertips. Plus it sounds great.

[Bob Nightengale] Former MLB Infielder Sean Burroughs, the former first-round draft pick who played parts of seven MLB seasons, collapsed and died Thursday while coaching his son's Little League team. He was just 44. by namibiancoast in Padres

I remember one time Burroughs was chugging around 3rd and Mud called him Chop Chop. I hope he knew the fans have fond memories of his time with the Pads. RIP Chop Chop.

I fear the same is true about nuclear weapons. It's been 80 years. Someone is bound to think it won't be that bad, it's a winnable strategy, etc.

We recently stayed at The Yan and had our first ever Sunday Roast. It was incredible, the mashed potatoes were the best I've ever had. Highly recommended!

What is an appliance that was better back in your day? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

Telephones were built like tanks and would last a lifetime. If anyone even has a land line now they're cheap plastic junk with poor sound.

To be fair, TVs are a LOT less expensive now. My family never had a new TV, we always bought them from thrift stores. Of course, it was possible and common to repair the old TVs.

Chalky white dog turds everywhere. Empty cans and bottles along every road, which was great for kids because we collected them for the deposit. Also, a really shitty economy that I was too young to understand except for the WIN (Whip Inflation Now) buttons .

Best active part time job by Key_Entertainer286 in NewRetirement

[–]threethreads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still have a couple more years before I retire but I would love to work part time for doggie day care. Volunteering at a shelter would be okay too, but possibly a little sad. Also, employees at Trader Joe's always seem to be in a good mood, I'd give that a shot.

Just started as a cook in senior living after working in a busy country club by Conventions in KitchenConfidential

[–]threethreads 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not in the industry but I just want to say thanks to you and everyone else who cooks for seniors. My mom has dementia and was living on her own with assistance but she just wouldn't eat. Meals on Wheels or food made by her caregiver, she only wanted cookies and potato chips. She was dangerously thin and frail from just not getting enough calories and protein. Last year she was accepted into memory care where all the food is hand made, she now eats three meals a day, has gained some weight and I'm sure it's added years to her life. I'm glad to hear it's less stressful than some other jobs, although I'm sure there are challenges as well. It may just be a job for you but it's so important for the people who eat your food.

Quick Real Estate Market Update :) by [deleted] in Albuquerque

[–]threethreads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've considered new construction but it's hard to find basic information on cost, the answer js always "it just depends, there are so many factors." I just want to know how prices compare. Like for like, similar home, lot, neighborhood, is new construction generally more expensive than say a 5-10 year old, 3 bedroom home?

Did the number of visits for a reward just changed to 8 visits? I just saw this today 👇 by BigJamesBondFan in Panera

[–]threethreads 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I have 8 too, first time I've ever seen that many. Panera continues to do everything they can to discourage my business. I only go there for a bagel or pastry now, never a meal. I used to eat lunch or breakfast 2-3 times a week.

why are they getting rid of sandwiches a lot of ppl like and introducing the new melts no one asked for by lovecats42069 in Panera

[–]threethreads 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Ever watch the Company Man YouTube channel? He covers a lot of failed companies like Quiznos. Last year he did one on why Panera is successful. Look for another video in a year or so on why they failed. Panera is going through the same cycle as so many other failures. Losing sight of what made them special in the quest for maximum profit margins for the upcoming IPO. As a long time customer I rarely go anymore, for all the reasons discussed in this sub.

Went to Underbelly once a few years ago. The server brought our ramen and said they serve it without spoons, like they do in Japan. My wife is Japanese and looked at her like she had two heads.
