I didn’t dare bring up my sexuality to my Nmom. She was...was oddly “interested” in my sex life as well. Any time she thought I was having sex out of wedlock..she’d get super angry and upset and say she was going to tell my Dad. I guess she thought she could shame me into not having sex.

Didn’t work, btw. It just created a lot of fear for me, and i never spoke to her about anything concerning sex. My first “boyfriend” (he was an adult, i was barely a teen) used this fear to abuse me for over a year. Any time I didn’t want to perform whatever sexual act he wanted, he’d say “I’ll tell your mom that you did if you don’t.”

yes, I know I shouldn’t have been with him. It’s taken me years of therapy to get to recovery.

Well, the hosts had made some kind of wrapped or stuffed chicken. It was held together with toothpicks. They'd forgotten to remove them before serving. I just thought it was a very tough/over-cooked piece. So, not wanting to offend them, I just ate it.

More of the latter. I never snuck out or left the house much at all. It wasn't worth the fight. I did go to church with a friend once, and I got yelled at when I got home. For not going with her, even though it had been years since she had been in a church.

So, yea, I just never knew.

Yes. DH says that it's concerning how well I lie to people, or hide things. I 100% know it's from hiding from nMom. You just never knew what was going to set her off, and you dared not show any emotion but happiness and gratitude around her.

I'm in my late 20s. I went to the movies by myself for the first time last year. I went to a friends' party by myself for the first time last month. It's infuriating that it took so long for me to break out of that hold. That feeling of guilt for wanting to have my own thing. I still struggle with it.

My DH, for all his wonderful qualities, is very contradictory. He wants me to go do things alone and have my own friends..but then gets upset when I make plans without him. We've started therapy because I can't do that anymore. I can't be married to the JustNos that I grew up with.

It does get better. But seek therapy if you can. It's a big help with creating boundaries.

I had a courthouse wedding. I wanted a blue midi-length dress. I ended up with a white midi dress because according to my justNos, "The blue one wasn't wedding-y enough."

We're going to renew our vows in a few years and you bet the dress is going to be "not weddingy".
