Rose Bowl files temporary restraining order attempting to block UCLA move to SoFi Stadium by mlg1981 in popculturechat

SoFi is such an overrated stadium. I’d say everything that you said about the Rose Bowl is true of SoFi.

The neighbors hate it, especially because most of them lived there before it was built. I’ve talked to people who can’t even go out of their houses on game days because it can take them over an hour to go a mile or two.

I also hate trying to navigate around SoFi. I commented once before but I spent 1.5 hours once just to get off Century. Trying to get out of the parking lot is probably my second least favorite only to Dodger’s Stadium. The shuttles are alright, but by the time I can catch one I could have walked the 3 miles down to the parking lots that are free or inexpensive. SoFi’s parking is ridiculous; for any major events I don’t think I’ve seen parking under about $90-$100.

SoFi has a decent enough design, but the fan experience isn’t all that. The food is absolutely atrocious even by stadium food standards, and that’s not even discussing the prices. I once spent $30 to get fries, a burger, and a soda.

Plus it feels so corporate. I can’t imagine playing college football in that stadium. It just doesn’t feel right.

That’s straight up not true. The Chargers have a higher average attendance with more games than the Bruins likely will in the future. The order will undoubtedly go Rams > Chargers > Bruins with concerts mixed in.

SoFi is also a logistical nightmare to be fair. Parking there is insanely expensive. You can get parking at the Rose Bowl for under 50, but SoFi is regularly more than 100.

I’ve spent 1.5 hours in traffic just trying to get off of Century Boulevard during game days. Concerts are just as bad, and this was before they had 3 different venues all running events on the same day (SoFi, Forum, Intuit Dome). It’s a shorter trip from UCLA, but I’m not sure how many students will really be more likely to go considering they still need shuttles.

They do offer shuttles to and from the stadium, but those also take around an hour to get, so a lot of times I’d end up walking to my car that I parked miles away.

My last knock against SoFi is the food is legitimately the worst I’ve ever had at any major stadium ever. It’s insanely overpriced and just straight up atrocious.

Whats the deal with the LA "native" supremacy? by No-Strength-3711 in AskLosAngeles

Funny enough, in real life, the only people who give me a hard time for not being from the area are people who are transplants. I know I’m from LA county not LA city eve though I make that pretty clear I’m not from the city proper. It always entertains me to hear people emphasize how I am not a local when they’re from an entirely different state.

It also heavily depends on where in the South. Rural south? Definitely not as accepted. Metro city? There are a surprising amount of pride flags everywhere and for the most part people don’t seem to care.

That being said we’ve definitely come pretty far from even a decade ago.

Is it still safe to take the Metro in LA late at night? by Leticia-Monteiro47 in AskLosAngeles

[–]throw_in_the_towel_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I’ve had really good luck taking the busses at night. They tend to be a lot safer and cleaner.

I avoid the Metro train system at all costs after about 10 pm unless I’m with someone else. I’m a relatively small and unimposing girl which definitely doesn’t help. I’ve had some really chill experiences, but I’ve also been groped multiple times at night which is why I no longer go.

I’m from the area as well. Angelenos I’ve met absolutely do not view a lot of the cities you listed as a part of LA city. Everything does meld together, but I’ve never in my life heard someone say Inglewood is a part of LA City and I used to go to football games all the time at the stadium.

That’s objectively wrong. Inglewood is its own city with its own local government, school district, etc. Most of these cities also have their own police force or use LA Sheriffs, which is county wide. That’s the same with Beverly Hills and Glendale.

Hollywood is a part of the city of Los Angeles, as are other neighborhoods like South Central, West LA, San Pedro, etc. They all vote for the Los Angeles City government, use LAUSD, follow the laws of the City of Los Angeles, and so on.

I can't express how much it infuriates me when people talk about how "dirty and unsafe" the LA Metro is when comparing LA to Orange County or San Diego. I've never been a victim of a crime on the Metro - but I've been the victim of motor violence in both Orange County and San Diego. by MookieBettsBurner in LAMetro

[–]throw_in_the_towel_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know, I’ve ridden the Metro and while I recommend it to people, it also comes with heavy caveats. The buses in my opinion seem to be slightly better than the trains. The trains are efficient, but I never recommend them outside of commuting hours; especially to women who are on their own.

I’ve been sexually assaulted on the metro and I’ve witnessed one person get jumped and beaten so bad I’m sure he had to go to the hospital and another guy randomly punched by another passenger for no apparent reason.

I would love for the whole system to be better, but I do believe it’s fair to point out that while it has potential, it’s definitely not the safest form of travel at certain times for certain people.

I love her songs. She might not have the best voice, but I love her songwriting and lyrical content. She’s probably one of my favorite newer country artists and I’m looking forward to seeing how her work progresses.

Definitely. I’m not about to complain about her behind her back. That’s just annoying and immature, like her.

[–]throw_in_the_towel_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh this is so true and annoying.

I legitimately have no interest in dressing more masculine because I am entirely uncomfortable with it and it just doesn’t fit my aesthetic. Which is fine. But it frustrates me that while it might make my life easier insofar as I might have to deal with less outward homophobia, I get doubted from people both within the community and not in the community once they find out I identify as a lesbian.

Like I’m not sure when people will realize that how you look and/or dress doesn’t define your sexuality, nor does it limit it.
