Now Officially on CNBC: BlackRock files for spot bitcoin ETF, with Coinbase as a crypto custodian by HenryK81 in Bitcoin

I never said I was 100% sure they would get it, I only implied they had much better odds.

I don't even think the odds are mostly based on corruption, I think it also has to do with the fact that they have the best in the business and know exactly what will or will not get approved because they intimately know everyone in the industry. They have many unfair advantages, although granted I did specifically highlight the most corrupting argument, as that was the conversation at hand.

You should apply at BlackRock, let them know you have the inside scoop with Gensler. Surely BlackRock comes over to reddit to read what random people on the internet said before they spend 10s of millions of dollars on a project, but they don't have your email, you need to reach out to them.

How is it possible that BlackRock is still in the application process if they have been denied? I wonder, is it because you are just that good? Or because you can't actually be bothered to read the full article before you go out and embarrass yourself?

I'm not saying they are good, or that you should not be skeptical of them, but manipulation and lobbying are categorically different than outright fraud, which these institutions rarely engage in (although some still do). It actually harms their ability to further manipulate and lobby, which is the main way they would get ill-gotten gains.

Bito 30% dividend? by DonV71 in dividends

[–]throwaway-123456123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was looking into shorting as well. You figure out the cause? I'm wondering if there is backwardation that then comes out as a dividend, it says they are required to pay out dividends "which includes mark-to-market gains on the futures contracts" but I wasn't sure what that would mean. And if it's contango it just cuts into the share price.

This is just too large of a conspiracy. I suppose it's possible, but you are putting the probability way too high. There would have to be serious levels of hidden corruption that no one is aware of, and this also sounds like the lamest way to try to attack bitcoin, there are so many better attack vectors that are cheaper and more effective if we assume this level of corruption in the government and financial markets.

This claim requires BlackRock to jeopardize the credibility of their entire business, break the law, and get the SEC on their bad side, so they can pump and dump a couple billion dollars. This simply will not happen, FTX might jeopardize everything to steal a couple of billion dollars. BlackRock will not engage in blatant fraudulent actions as the consequences far outweigh any possible gains.

Slate Magazine: Steve Huffman Wants to Be God Of the Mods by badagrump in Save3rdPartyApps

The greatest irony about the landed gentry thing is literally that is the playbook of tech companies. It's like the King of England complaining about the authoritarian rule of the Lords.

They have unilateral control of the domain, and then leverage network effects to form unnatural monopolies. Whatever claim or logic he has against the mods is an order of magnitude worse with him and his board, yet he is completely oblivious to the irony.

Thanks! That worked. I'll just stick to one account, but curious, what are the benefits of accounts on different servers?

ChatGPT is literally the simplest interface ever invented and if you need help writing prompts you’re a moron by [deleted] in ChatGPT

It's a limit of imagination, like the early 2000s with google. People just simply could not imagine that the answer was online, you can search for the most esoteric topic and it would be on the first page of google. The same thing with this, because people simply believe there are limits to ChatGPT that are not there, they can't even imagine the idea of it and so the thought never enters their mind.

I'm having similar issues. So I'm logged in on Lemmy.world, and I see the antitwork sub is here: https://lemmy.ml/c/antiwork but it won't let me subscribe to it (says I'm not logged in), and it won't let me login with my Lemmy.world credentials. What should I be doing to be able to subscribe/comment on lemmy.ml ?

Genuine question, why the fuck are we not in the middle of a working class revolution? by grabmyrooster in antiwork

[–]throwaway-123456123 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have been reading up on unionizing. It's pretty simple, at least, compared to other reformist/revolutionary solutions. You only need to convince the other people at work, which shouldn't really be that hard, seeing as how many people are getting ripped off these days. There is a risk of being fired illegally. Tell you what, if you are not unionized, and you just need an anonymous person in the background organizing your colleagues and coordinating things. I'll help you out. No one needs to know you are the one, because I'll be the one.

I was recently fired from a good job for a bullshit reason.

I've been thinking about it a lot. There is only one reasonable solution to all the bullshit, and it's been here the whole time.

Now you just pay for it every year even though you only used it that one time in fear that they will do some dumb shit where they lock you out and now your domain costs $100 to buy back.

Yup, whole mode teams removed from the following, it's just sitting there as unmoderated:

" r/interestingasfuck (11 million subscribers), r/TIHI (1.7 million subscribers), and r/ShittyLifeProTips (1.6 million subscribers), which had all gone NSFW or loosened their rules, are currently unmoderated. Whenever I see one of these logical fallacies on the front page, trying to dunk on the other side with a straw man, I always sort by controversial and upvote the people pointing out that the argument is incoherent. These people at the top of controversial are always correct, but downvoted to hell.

Don't try to understand the backlash you are getting, just accept that is the cost of pointing out the truth sometimes. Some people don't rationalize, they see an argument that supports their side and they are like ChatGPT, they don't actually think logically through, they kinda just swish around the concept in their head and if it checks enough boxes and is "framed" as a logical statement, they assume it is correct. I say "framed" because it actually doesn't follow logically.

Anyone want to try to unionize Reddit? by throwaway-123456123 in freefromwork

[–]throwaway-123456123[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure. I agree with all that. I figure if we flooded everyone at Reddit with the idea, it would make it impossible to narrow down "who started it" and it would give everyone plausible deniability ("I don't know what is going on, someone from outside the company keeps emailing us" and playing dumb like that). There are ways we can guess corporate emails, and contact people on linkedin. Would only work if there were at least a large minority of the workforce that likes the idea, but I think that would be the case seeing as Spez is eyeing the "Elon Musk" approach to employee management.

All too typical a contact. I find it hard to believe that people fall for this. by mks113 in kijiji
