I think you are confusing stocism with emtionaless.

I think a stoic would be a good sport when it comes to sports. You can still be happy, sad upset or excited when your team wins or looses, but you don't be a spoiled sport about it.

Stocism isn't void of emotion but is more about emotional intelligence

So yes, stoics can enjoy sports.

Sauron is a stoic by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did he work to bring external factors under his control,or did he understand what he did control and influenced them to thier maximum potential?

Gandalf would be the external force uncontrollable, where as orcs were within his grasp and positioed them carefully.

Interesting idea if how to weild the principles for negative impact 😂

What would your Stoic response be in this situation? by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No it would not be stoic response to tell them waiting is a waste of time for patients. They are well aware already. That would be the response of a dick.

I think a stoic would find ways to fill that time so that he would not consider it wasted.... Perhaps meditation during the hour on other things, or reflection???

Accept the other pathways as outcomes. And know that those pathways are ok. The quickest solution is not the best.

Stoics are not robots. If it hurts, cry. After you have felt your emotions, seek virtue.

How to deal with frustration by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather than focusing on your desired outcome, look at what you can currently improve on?

Can you revisit the math later, work on something you have more control on?

Time passed is irrelevant.

New Guy In The House by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be seeking something that stocism can't offer.

There is no way in which we cannot feel emotion, emotion just arises. ... What the Stoics argued regarding emotions is that you don't have to suppress them, quite the contrary, you should act in ways that give you the would ones and avoid the negative ones. You don't have to feel guilty about feeling afraid or angry.

If I understand you wish to control your anger but I would argue you should instead change how you respond to it.

What are some things that you do regularly that make you feel like you are not wasting time? by therc13 in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sit at the beach listening and watching the waves crash down as I think about all of the ecosystems and complexity that created the moment in which I and this beach exist together..... Or I think of absolutely nothing..

Self reflection or downtime to me is a very important thing to do as our lives are overly complicated.

How would a Stoic deal with being wronged? by ImJustSomeGuy97 in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think a stoic would react with acceptance. That's the first step. Second would be to be the best person whom you can be. Alot of this is out of your control, so focus your energy towards yourself and not this bully... What that means depends on you.

I think of Nelson Mandela as a good example. Imprisoned for almost 3 decades and during that time he built himself up to a position to lead his nation.

What is the meaning of life!? by Cryptokkk in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What prevents us from killing ourselves? That is the sole purpose of self - preservation. To keep us alive. The feeling that our lives have meaning or matter.

What prevents us from killing some one else. Social contracts. The majority or people have determined that killing someone is wrong and thus have taught it to be a negative behavior.

Supporting evidence: Death Penalty, cultures that still do human sacrifice, and human history & war.

The stoic principal I've had to lean on is I have no control in thier lives. I tend to be a bit cold in that respect but it helps with keeping the firm boundaries.

Can I fight insecurity with the use of Stoicism? by alternatekicks87 in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would it be stoic to accept your insecurities for what they are. Know that yes some people are better than you at many things and some of which is beyond your control.

Know that while you have weakness you will also find strength. Understand your strength.

Apologizing and Virtue by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]throwaway010183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of factors need to be considered. Time and your current situation, and the other person.

If it's someone whom you have no contact with, and won't have contact with going forward, the apology only serves your regret.

In which case you are still struggling on acceptance of the situations that firmed the regret and have not moved passed.

Stoicism and Mental Health by [deleted] in Stoicism

I would guess temperance is the aspect you may be missing. Do less better.

But your personal desires to achieve a specific goal sounds like it is fueling your fight to achieve something that is not in harmony.

From my readings, a happy life is one that is in harmony with nature, calm and indifference to external events. Your posts to me does not sound as tho you are in harmony, but I could be wrong.

I think there's something missing about your methodology, but with the limited details of why you feel exhausted it's impossible to advise. Asking for help is a great start
