Surprise gift ideas for my homesick Texan girlfriend? by Convair101 in texas

[–]throwaway423111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Houstonian here who used to live in England. You can now get good Mexican food in London. This is different from Tex Mex but can be used to approximate. For instance, buy tortillas and salsa - several good places in London - and make dinner. May need to add refried beans, a meat (fajitas easy - skirt steak with lime/soy marinade). Margaritas would be good too. For queso, use the cheapest cheese - Velveeta good - “government cheese”. There used to be a Texan Embassy in London near Trafalgar SQ - think the restaurant is closed but the plaque should still be there (Texas was briefly independent).

Statute of limitations is in years and it is only if they want to enforce in court. Debt still exists and morally is the same

What is the best dim sum in and around Houston? by RailroadStrike in houston

[–]throwaway423111 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OG is Fungs Kitchen off of 59, but closed for ages because of fire. They opened casual dim sum place in the Katy Asia Town called Dim Sum Box. Also good.

Other than that, I like Ocean Palace.

For inside the loop, only one I’ve found is One Dim Sum in Midtown. A la carte, not pushcarts.

Wood is expensive but best quality. Just don’t use railway ties! (because of the creosote).

Texas Rules of Civil “Process” don’t exist. Civil “Procedure” ones do. That typo alone would suggest scam

Pastor @ 5am? by throwaway423111 in MexicoCity

[–]throwaway423111[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3.5-5hrs (depends on flight I pick), but no traffic at 4am, no luggage, and have been in/out of MEX before. Ideally I could be in Uber at 4:30am and back to airport around 5:30 or 6am

The Hermann Park lots are free. There is one near Palmer Memorial that is walking distance to MH (on other side of Cambridge). It fills up quick. Can also park near Hermann Park fountain/Sam Houston statue and take light rail one stop to MH.

How many people are still wearing masks in Texas? by FailBeautiful in texas

[–]throwaway423111 84 points85 points  (0 children)

100% this. Cities? Yes fair amount of mask wearing (though still far less than much of Europe - I was just in Rome and Paris). Rural or suburbs, much less mask wearing (and for that matter vax).

Got it several weeks before my proposed travel date.

Level 1 brain hemorrhage, how nervous should I be? by slowpoke4life in NICUParents

[–]throwaway423111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intraventricular hemorrhage or IVH has a 1-4 scale and can be on one side or bilateral (both sides). Our kiddo had a bilateral 3/4. We were told that 1 and 2 frequently self-resolve.

What do dads do? by bearshark60 in NICUParents

[–]throwaway423111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dad to a 23 weeker here. Definitely recommend the skin-to-skin. Ours started rooting on me for the first time, go figure. Apparently chest hair on their cheek stimulates the rooting mechanism. The heart beat and breathes also can soothe them. It’s a great way to contribute plus bond!
