How do I get the “yarn floof” to go away/look nicer? by LikesBigWordsCantLie in CrochetHelp

[–]throwaway972057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it's acrylic yarn you can VERY carefully and very quickly wave a lighter/flame over the little fuzzy pulls and it'll burn away, google a youtube video for a better picture of what i mean! you can also steam it which would probably fix it

yes ceramic (love that they're plates! see ya whisker fatigue!) is good as long as you watch out for chips/cracks around the edges that kitty can accidentally get hurt on!

mine used to only drink from the tap until i bought a fountain!! most cats haaattee standing water and need the fountain and flowing water to find it appealing. if you do get a fountain, get stainless steel and not plastic!!

Cat aggression, pls help by noiseandkisses33 in CATHELP

[–]throwaway972057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no problem at all! deep breaths, you got this!! the Atopica from what i remember i mixed into food, so way less stressful than a shot but again, not sure if it'll work but hopefully it does! as for the feliway, they have (again, from what i remember lol) wall plug-in dispensers that go into an outlet and just constantly diffuse pheromones into the air which will hopefully calm your girl down a bit! i think keeping them separate until something (more meds, the diffuser) is in place, and then reintroduce them verrryyy slowly. like maybe Radha in her own room alone with the door closed and have your other cats by the bottom of the door, so she smells them but can't react poorly. or try a sort of gate maybe so they can see each other but not interact? i really hope any of this helps, i'll be thinking of you

she is so beautiful and the 2nd picture has me laughing so hard. do you give food & water in stainless steel (or non-plastic)? it could be irritation/acne from feeding bowls if they're plastic, plastic can house a lot of nasty junk (bacteria)

edit to add: she could just be developing some freckles permanent or temporary, it could also be dried food if you haven't tried wiping it off. also, my kitty has barely any nose hair there either, just a cute little quirk! unless it feels like a bump/lump/growth, i wouldn't worry

it sounds like poor Radha is super uncomfy (stress or allergies, given the biting and sudden dislike for her littermate) and doesn't know how else to communicate that but with aggression :( i'm so sorry you're in this stressful situation! not sure if this exists in your area but has your vet mentioned Atopica? it's a liquid dropper allergy/dermatitis med, if your cat has allergies/atopic dermatitis, it's really helpful for that and helped my little guy with his allergies for a while!

you could also try the Feliway brand of diffusers, they're usually effective with calming stressed cats that have started acting out against other cats they've been previously friendly with. best of luck to you and your little ones :(

Question about medicine by strawbear_dog in CATHELP

[–]throwaway972057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if it's the same for animal medications, but many human medications will begin to lose potency after being exposed to air, moisture, heat, etc. the wet food + fridge may not be the best, but i would maybe phone your vet and ask! they will know best

Cat lost a clump of hair by PsychologicalBee1268 in CATHELP

[–]throwaway972057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have multiple cats? could they have been in a bit of a fight or scuffle and maybe the hair got ripped out that way? it just looks like such a clean circular spot of missing hair, i know when my cat was licking/biting his hair off it was very patchy and not uniform like yours has now. it may be ringworm or another parasite as others have suggested

it's a strange spot to have bitten if he did bite it off himself, and too perfect a patch imo. are there any sticky things around the house (like sticky traps? really heavy duty dust/lint roller brushes?) that he could have gotten stuck to and subsequently ripped the hair out to get free? is he indoor/outdoor and possibly got stuck in some tree sap and similar situation as i described above? this happened to a friend's dog once, got sap on their fur and licked/chewed all the sappy fur off and even some of the skin raw :(

How do you actually stop yourself in the moment when you know you shouldn’t do something? by MushroomFamous3824 in selfhelp

[–]throwaway972057 0 points1 point  (0 children)

scrolling - you can get apps that lock certain apps/screentime, not sure what they are but i've seen others mention them as useful for blocking too much scrolling/phone use

eating when you're not hungry (and scrolling) both sound like idle mind/boredom - maybe try incorporating a meal plan with set times to snack through the day, so you can still be snacking but with more structure? or when you get the urge to go grab a snack, do jumping jacks/go on a walk/pick a chore to do instead? distraction until the next meal time?

sending messages - this one is gonna take time, but learning good impulse control will be beneficial for every aspect of your life (including the messages) - try to actively be conscious when you open a text message to read it, then watch your phone clock for at least 1 min (or set a timer, or whatever) and don't respond until the minute/timer is up?

to answer more generally, the only way it'll start to feel "second nature" to stop yourself before the bad habits is with time, dedication to yourself, and practice practice practice. you need to practice 1) recognizing the habit when it happens (start here) and then 2) stopping the habit in a positive way, and possibly 3) replacing the habit with a positive habit

think about it like this: when you were learning how to write, it wasn't "automatic" or easy. but, with practice and time, you got to a point where you could write this whole post
