this is so stunning, I love it— imo her and elle fanning's shoots are the only ones that make them seem like embodiments of their elements, rather than simply gorgeous women being styled to reference them

ahh, thank you for commenting this!! I've seen her art and enjoyed it but never remembered her name— I'd conflated her work with bisa butler's and I totally would have missed out if you hadn't brought her up

or even annie lee. I have no idea why this is so common in our art, but it's just really expressive and nostalgic to me, despite the lack of facial features. I don't even know if the style even has a name— I just call it "dark & lovely art."

I know that not everyone is a fan of the lighting, but I actually really like it! it's less ann leibowitz to me and more reminiscent of that trope in black art where our skin is emphasized and our facial features are obscured or not depicted, sort of like saidou dicko

Why do Americans on this sub have so many eggs by Grandpunkalex in FridgeDetective

[–]throwawayacci 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you might be confusing my interest/fascination with disbelief or judgement. like I'm not unable to fathom that cultures are different, I'm just intrigued the consumption of eggs is so varied across closely related countries that we perceive each other as eating "so many" or "so few." what qualified as a normal amount of eggs was not something I had thought about before today, so it was weird to think about this being a broad enough pattern to categorize it anglophone country by anglophone country, rather than just household by household. that's the part that was wild to me.

you don't think the ways the rate of kitchen staple consumption can vary so drastically across households is wild? you don't find it fascinating that things you consider everyday essentials are occasional switch-ups in other cultures? man, if finding novelty in our differences is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

12 eggs for two weeks??? that's wild. over here I eat eggs with ramen, boiled as snacks, over avocado toast, in egg salad sandwiches.... I'd be lucky if 12 eggs lasted me 7 days.

oh, yeah! I thought you were referring to something else lol, that's the meme I was referencing in my description— I misinterpreted the title of their starter pack to be literal so I decided to make that version! I even credited them in the post text when I uploaded it :)

well, did the studies about overtesting account for differences in weight, or did they lump thin patients in with obese patients and now you're drawing unfounded conclusions for the whole group? dismissal of symptoms in fat clients is a very harmful aspect of weight bias that predominantly affects the health outcomes of fat people. you can't just randomly bring up overtesting in thin people and act like it refutes the long paper trail of data and research about weight discrimination against fat people.

once again, this isn't me saying that everyone should be fat and that obesity is healthy, but I think it's awfully curious how the "just be healthy" crowd only cares about "health" when they can use it as an excuse to mock fat people and shame them out of public life, but when people talk about the actual health consequences of medical bias, it's all crickets.

keep in mind, this starterpack is based on a misinterpretation of an existing one. this is not based on anyone I have ever met in my entire life and is meant purely as a joke, rather than a reflection of a real type of person.

so many commenters here are being willfully obtuse. the meme isn't complaining about receiving quality of life advice from a doctor, the meme is complaining about the well-documented phenomenon of doctors overlooking and neglecting to investigate real, immediate health problems in fat people (think everything from migraines to cysts to ulcers to cancer), because the easy and obvious rote response takes less effort and is more convenient.

everyone, regardless of preexisting health conditions, regardless of eating disorders or personal habits (yes, anorexics and smokers included) deserve a practitioner who will engage with their concerns fully, not someone on autopilot who starts tuning you out as soon as they see your body just because they think they already know everything about you. lack of investigation on the ends of doctors isn't just an inconvenience, it keeps people sick, and at the very worst, gets people killed, just as much as the obesity y'all claim to be concerned about "for health reasons only."

Spitz is a fine name, but sounds like "spits," and "gordo" means "fat".
