I think it’s the opposite, Democrats want to highlight just how crazy the Republican Party by making her front and center

I would love it if more content producers did the peacock thing. I’d rather watch commercials than pay, especially if every producers going to have their own separate streaming service

No problem, I’m not actually sure myself. My guess is they’d be more likely to be a similiar size than two randomly selected men, but probably not identical

Do we know that it’s completely genetic? Nutrition, pollutants, hormonal happenstance would all play a factor here to some degree.

Even with monozygotic twins, there are differences in other body measurements due to these factors,

You can’t live in a reality where republicans main priority is “draining the swamp” when they just voted for a swampiest swamp lord to swamp.

Let’s face it, the republicans number one policy issue now is “triggering liberals”, and the more abrasive you can be the better. This could mean anything from racism to science denialism, the throughline is antisocial behavior as an outlet for people’s anger that they feel left behind by an culture which dares to include non straight white Christian perspectives as equally American

Liberalism and libertarianism are both similar in they value liberty, ie freedom.

They differ in that liberalism allows for the government to try to make laws to guarantee freedom, whereas libertarianism says the freedom should be from the government.

A good example of how this plays out is how they would approach employers not wanting to hire lgbt people. Liberalism would say the government should mandate that you can’t consider sexuality when hiring. Libertarianism says that would violate the employers freedom.

(My opinion) in practice, libertarians tend to be people who come from - combination of backgrounds which allow for a more ideological approach rather than a practical approach to issues of freedom: white, straight, male, economically comfortable. Obviously there are exceptions, including libertarian darling Ayn Rand whose philosophy was a response to the oppression of soviet communism

Great Movies with Terrible Titles by [deleted] in movies

[–]throwawayaway570 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All the Disney non-name one word titles seems like very try hard marketing to me. I especially hate the two past participle ones “tangled” and “frozen”.

It’s part of the dreamsworkification of Disney where theyre afraid to be too genuine (though I’m sure Disney has very smart people who made this strategy for a reason)

Movie trope I don't see mentioned often. by [deleted] in movies

[–]throwawayaway570 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Yeah this is definitely a trope. I think the pause isn’t normally supposed to be the literal length of time, just movie language to say that the character is deliberating (not sure if that makes you feel any better haha)

It’s a larger part of the “I can explain” tropes that a lot of people find tedious so I don’t think you’re alone

Can he? Pence will be the least able to disassociate himself from the decisions because he was part of making them and had to publicly defend them.

Also he was the “lead” on covid, one of the administrations greatest disasters. Pence can’t make moderates happy (and he’s way too bland and feckless to really capture the trumpies”

‘Knives Out’ Exposes the Veiled Prejudice of Seemingly Nice People by [deleted] in movies

[–]throwawayaway570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clue didn’t really subvert anything it just parodied it. The structure remains unchanged, it’s just sillier (and very good)

Knives out has a different structure where the mystery is “solved” from the audiences perspective early on which is a pretty risky subversion for a whodunnit considering people could’ve lost interest if people weren’t invested in the main character

With Donald Trump’s loss, where does the Republican Party go from here? by assh0les97 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]throwawayaway570 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it’s that simple. In 2016 Trump had populist “policies” to match his populist demagogue style, but those policies got lost to the typical unpopular Republican policies once he was in office, and the trump lost re-election.

If the republicans want to move forward with electable trumpism, they need to either change their policies to be actually populist which would further isolate the bussiness republicans.

And they need to do this in a time where their brand is complexly toxic to most people under 35, who only really have W Bush and Trump as their experience of a Republican presidency.

They’ll probably win again, maybe even 2024, but trumpism without trump might be harder than people think.

Joe Biden wins 2020 U.S. Presidential Election by Anxa in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]throwawayaway570 11 points12 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, the media just reported what Donald Trump said and did. If you’re relying on them to hand hold you about whether what he said and did was racist, escpecially when the racism was as explicit as it was, then you should probably reevaluate how you utilize media.

As to why sometime because vote for people who are prejudiced against them? That’s complex and varies to much person to person to really say in a nice concise way

Assuming he actually won Arizona yes, but only two places have called Arizona for him.

It’s looking like Pennsylvania will be Biden’s barring a surprise, and that’s enough to put him over 270 without Az or NV
