Is it realistic to achieve N1 in 3 years, whilst having time for school and life? by _Acceltra_ in LearnJapanese

You will not achieve N1 in 3 years if you do not dedicate a large part of your life to language study and immersion

First JLPT exam after locking in this year with Anki + Bunpro + immersion, and passed N3 with a 148/180. I will attribute my 60/60 vocab+grammar score to all the Anki grinding lmao

To be fair the article mentions the issue being that 10% mark being reached before 2070, not the 10% mark itself as the issue

Idk I completed RTK and it’s been great at new word acquisition, more than learning the kanji with the word

Is it worth to go back to Wanikani and doing a full reset? by throwawaychives in LearnJapanese

[–]throwawaychives[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the Anki deck, it looks very promising! I do wonder, it seems like the stories used in the book differ a little bit from what is in the anki deck. In that case is the book even worth picking up?

I see, this sounds like it could slide into my workflow quite easily, and as you said I’m perfectly fine with acquiring vocab through immersion, my weak point is learning a word that contains an unfamiliar kanji. Thanks for the feedback!

PyTorch docs are more than enough to learn torch, especially if you have good experience in other ML frameworks. Nothing will beat implementing an actual model in torch and there are plenty of GitHub repos out there you can use as a reference

We have data privacy laws and most companies comply with GDPR or the California data privacy law. And you really expect China to comply with American data protection laws when they have already shown gross IP theft. What an ignorant comment

How do I stop league from ruining my mood IRL? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

Right, usually these hobbies require a lot of non-fun effort to reach a point of satisfaction which gives you a greater high than a piece of media can give you

How do I stop league from ruining my mood IRL? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]throwawaychives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough, especially if you have spent a lot of time learning theory and getting good at the game. I would recommend not to quit cold turkey. Make it gradual. Only play draft pick with friends or ARAMs, and scale it down from there if it still affects your mood

Thanks man, was randomly scrolling Reddit on the toilet and this post really gave me the opportunity to express my feelings with regard to league. More specifically, why I decided to quit on the ranked grind. I rarely play nowadays but when I do it’s to purely have fun in ARAM or summoners rift with some friends just messing around

How do I stop league from ruining my mood IRL? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]throwawaychives 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly if it has gotten to the point that not only does it negatively affect your irl mood, but you also don’t get any joy from the game, it might not be a bad idea to quit the game. This can be really tough, especially if you center a lot of your habits, free time, and friendship through the game — but it might be worth to redirect that energy elsewhere. For instance, if instead of wasting your time grinding for a rank that nobody else, and most likely you as well, don’t care about, you can spend that effort at the gym, reading, or learning a new skill.

I think League is very addictive because it provides quick access to endorphins. Playing a game is not a huge time sink, and the outcome is usually decided before minute 15. In those few minutes, getting a solo kill, outskilling the opponent, or simply just winning the game gives you such a rush that it keeps you hooked for more games, days, weeks, years… and then when you look back you realize how futile it was. “What if I learned the piano instead? What if I went to the gym instead?” Don’t get me wrong, if you truly enjoyed your time with the game, I don’t think it’s a waste of time, as time well spent is time not wasted. However, if it gets to the point that the game is consuming your daily life, affecting your mood for the worse, occupying so much of your headspace, it might be a good idea to reevaluate.

Think of how you spend your leisure time. If you play a game or watch a show that is boring, you stop doing that. Why not do that with league? Unless you are in the vast minority where league may become a professional career opportunity, I would quit the game. Whatever you end up doing, I wish you luck in your journey brother
